Ninth Contract Purchased from Stormers in ‘26
Outfielder Jake Thompson, the Atlantic League batting leader through the first nine weeks, has had his contract purchased by the Los Angeles Angels, it was announced today.
It is the ninth contract that the Stormers have sold to Major League organizations or foreign baseball entities in 2026. That is the most contracts purchased from the Stormers since 2016 when the Stormers had 11 player contracts purchased. Three of those players advanced to the Major Leagues by that season’s end.
Of the nine player contracts sold, seven have gone to different MLB organizations and two have gone to foreign baseball leagues.
Thompson was batting .395 with eight homers and 38 RBI in 38 games played. The left-handed batter also had 15 doubles and two triples and had crossed the plate 42 times. As well as holding the batting average lead, the Minnesota native was tops in the Atlantic League with a .478 on base percentage. He ranked second in both slugging and OPS.
He departs with a 33-game on base streak intact. He extended it with a scratch single in the eighth inning at Long Island on Sunday.
The former Oklahoma State star had spent four seasons in the Miami Marlins system prior to his arrival in Lancaster. He has reached Class AA Pensacola for 1 ½ seasons.
“Thompson has been our anchor all year,” said Lancaster manager Ross Peeples. “He definitely deserves this opportunity.”
