Honoring Lancaster County's best

Our mission

The Lancaster County Sports Hall of Fame is a nonprofit, volunteer organization that remembers and honors those who have achieved exemplary performance in the world of sports. Inductees are selected for their past or current athletic achievements and for bringing honorable recognition to the athletic community of Lancaster County.

Our history

The Hall of Fame's roots go back to the late 1970s, when Paul Cogley, Al Karlip and J. Freeland Chryst led the Old Timers Athletic Association. It started by honoring Lancaster County football players, then grew to include other sports, meeting at the Lafayette Fire Hall and holding an annual banquet for the county's top athletes and coaches.

In 1991 the group began presenting the J. Freeland Chryst Athletic Achievement Awards, with Robert Hicks as the first honoree. In August 2011, the Old Timers Athletic Association officially became the Lancaster County Sports Hall of Fame. Every Chryst Award honoree, before and after the name change, is a member of the Hall.
