David Smith Under Contract for 2026
The Lancaster Stormers have signed former Detroit Tigers farmhand David Smith to a contract for the 2026 season, it was announced today by manager Ross Peeples.
He is the sixth player to join the Stormers for the upcoming campaign at Penn Medicine Park.
Smith, 25, was Detroit’s 14th round draft choice out of the University of Connecticut in 2023. The native of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania spent the majority of the last three seasons at Class A Lakeland. The switch hitter batted only .204 but drew 120 walks in 183 career games. Smith also stole 47 bases in that stretch.
During his collegiate career with UConn and LaSalle, Smith hit .301 with 15 homers in
137 games.
“David is a guy who can play infield and outfield,” said Peeples. “He will start off in the infield for us. We like the speed he brings to our team and has a great BB/K rate. We are excited to see what he can do in the Atlantic League.”
The Stormers open their season at York on Tuesday, April 21 and kick off their 2026 home schedule on Friday, April 24th at 6:45 pm.
