Barnstormers to Hold Tryouts

Area baseball players – here is your chance to pursue your dreams.

The Atlantic League’s Lancaster Barnstormers will hold its first ever tryout camp on Sunday, April 2 at Clipper Magazine Stadium, it was announced today by manager Ross Peeples.

Peeples and his staff, hitting coach Josh Bell and pitching coach Scott Patterson, will be on hand to look for the tools and skill levels necessary to compete at the Atlantic League level.

Registration for the tryouts will be at 10:00 AM.  Position players will be tested for the basic tools during the morning hours.  The coaching staff will be gauging speed, arm, swings and defense during a series of drills that will include infield and batting practice as well as a 60-yard dash.

Pitchers will start at noon.  They will each get to throw one inning during a scrimmage game that will be held at 1:00 PM.

Athletes who have reached their 18th birthday and have completed high school are welcome to attend the tryout.  No previous professional baseball experience is necessary, although players who have played in the pro ranks before are invited to attend.

“We are interested in knowing who might be out there and ready to step in,” said Peeples.  “The need may or may not be there for Opening Day, but with injuries and contracts being purchased by Major League organizations, we would like to see who is in the area that could quickly be signed to fill a roster spot.”

Entry fees are $75 in advance and $85 the day of the camp.
