Revs Bang Out 18 Hits in 14-7 Win

Until Sunday afternoon, York had only scored 21 runs in nine games against Lancaster this season.

The Revs made up for it.

Andres Perez went 4-for-5 with two homers and five RBI to lead the Revolution to a 14-7 victory over the Barnstormers in the rubber game of a three-game series.

Through the first five innings, the clubs battled to a 5-5 tie. K.C. Hobson had launched a two-run homer for the Barnstormers following an RBI double by Sean Halton in the fourth. Caleb Gindl and Mike Jacobs rapped out consecutive RBI hits in the top of the fifth off James Simmons (5-3).

For York, Travis Witherspoon and Michael Burgess homered, Perez and Kevin Rivers doubles and Brandon Chaves contributed an RBI single.

In the sixth, the Revolution began to pull away. Perez led off against Bryan Evans (3-4) with a blast over the 37-foot high wall in left. Kevin Rivers yanked a ball down the right field line that was initially ruled a triple, then switched to a home run until Lancaster manager Butch Hobson argued, then was reversed again to a three-base hit. Rivers scored as Brandon Chaves singled to right center off reliever Ryan Dennick, and Salvador Paniagua singled home another run later in the inning.

Three straight two-out hits, including an RBI double by Chaves, stretched the lead to 9-5 in the seventh, and, after Halton led off the eighth with a homer to left center, the Revs blew the game open with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Singles by Paniagua, Witherspoon and Michael Rockett opened the inning. One run was forced home when Joel Guzman was hit by a pitch. After Burgess lined to left, Perez unloaded a grand slam into the playground, his 60th homer as a Rev, setting the franchise career record.

Lancaster opens the second half on Monday evening against the Long Island Ducks with a special Red White and Boom fireworks show afterward. Terry Doyle (2-4) will make the start for Lancaster against Ducks right-hander Bruce Kern. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel starting at 6:45.

NOTES: The 14 runs, four homers and 35 total bases were all season highs against Lancaster…Halton hit safely in his sixth straight game…He has eight extra base hits in nine games and 25 in his last 43 games…Caleb Gindl and Mike Jacobs had three hits apiece…Kevin Ahrens, Josh Bell and Blake Gailen all had the day off.
