Gailen Ties Career Homer Record in ‘Stormers Loss
The York Revolution batters keeping whacking away at the right field wall at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
York slugged four home runs for the second consecutive game, handing the host Lancaster Barnstormers an 11-6 defeat in the middle game of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
With the win, the Revolution drew even in the PNC Bank War of the Roses at eight games apiece.
Keith Castillo belted a one-out solo homer in the second inning, the first long ball allowed by Terry Doyle in 72 innings.
York’s other three homers came off the Barnstormers’ relief corps. Andres Perez and Isaias Tejeda blasted back-to-back shots off R.J. Hively in the seventh to jolt York into a 7-4 lead. Travis Witherspoon added a three-run shot off Evan Meek in the eighth.
Perhaps the most damaging inning was the top of the fifth. Bryan Pounds led off the inning with a shallow pop fly to right field that dropped untouched and reached second on a ground out by Brandon Chaves. Witherspoon lined a triple into the right field corner. Jared Mitchell followed with a walk, which ultimately led to the ejection of Lancaster manager Butch Hobson.
When play resumed, Kevin Rivers lofted a sacrifice fly to right, tying the game at 3-3. Perez reached on an error, and Tejeda put York into the lead with a single to center.
Blake Gailen tied the game with a leadoff homer against Micah Owings (5-4) in the bottom of the inning. The line drive onto the picnic deck was the 61st for Gailen in a Barnstormers uniform, tying him with longtime Lancaster catcher Lance Burkhart for the club career record.
Trayvon Robinson had given the Barnstormers a 3-1 lead with a two-run homer in the third. K.C. Hobson also connected in the eighth inning.
Ryan Dennick (3-5) allowed a one-out triple to Mitchell in the seventh. Mitchell was aboard on the Perez homer.
The Barnstormers and Revolution conclude the three-game series at 2:00 on Sunday. Justin Jackson (1-1) will make the start for Lancaster against lefty Frank Gailey (4-3). Fans may tune into Blue Ridge Cable 11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 2:00.
NOTES: Caleb Gindl blooped a double to left in the third inning to extend his hitting streak to 16 games, two shy of the season high and four short of the franchise record…Doyle worked six innings for the 15th time in his last 16 starts…All six Lancaster hits were for extra bases…Both Josh Bell and Sean Halton were out of the lineup for Lancaster.
