Roster Continues to Grow
The Lancaster Stormers have signed veteran Mexican League first baseman Marc Flores and returning right-handed reliever A.J. Alexy, it was announced today by manager Ross Peeples.
With these latest two signings, the Stormers now have 13 players under contract for the upcoming campaign, which gets underway, April 21.
Flores, 33, has played seven summers in the Mexican League with four different clubs. His best campaign came in 2019, when he hit .316 with 32 homers and drove in 103 runs for the Rieleros. He continued with Aguascalientes after the 2020 shutdown and hit a combined .278 with 20 homers in 2021 and 2022 before moving to Durango.
Last year, the California native hit .210 with six homers for Quintana Roo.
The lefty slugger also has previous Atlantic League experience, hitting .279 with 12 homers in 77 games for Gastonia in 2024. He originally signed with the Chicago White Sox as their 30th round pick in the 2014 draft and spent one season in their organization, before spending three years in the Frontier League.
“Marc is a big guy with some power who comes highly recommended to us,” said Peeples. “We will use him at first base and DH and put him in the middle of the order. We’re hoping he can take advantage of our short porch in right.”
Alexy, who turns 28 on Opening Day, is no stranger to the Stormers, joining the club for a third season. After experiencing success during Lancaster’s stretch run in 2024, striking out 21 batters in 14 innings with a 2.57 ERA, he battled through the 2025 season, going 0-2 with a double-digit ERA. He was released by the club in late August.
Peeples believes there is a significant possibility of a turnaround.
“A.J. struggled with his command last year, but he has put in an off-season of work, and we are going to see what he has gotten out of it,” said the Stormers’ manager. “A.J. has very good stuff. Once he trusts it and attacks the zone, he can be a ‘guy’ for us.”
Alexy, the native of Honey Brook, Pennsylvania, pitched at the Major League level for the Texas Rangers in 2021 and 2022, appearing in nine games with a 4-2 record and 6.30 ERA. The right-hander fired 11 consecutive shutout innings at the outset of his big league career, posting wins against the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Angels in his first two starts.
The Stormers open their 21st season of Atlantic League action on Tuesday, April 21 with a 6:30 start at WellSpan Park in York. Three days later, the home schedule at Penn Medicine Park will get underway with a 6:45 first pitch against the Long Island Ducks.
