SKEETERS SEND LANCASTER TO SIXTH STRAIGHT LOSS

Lancaster Falls, 8-4, to Sugar Land

A difficult homestand continued for the Lancaster Barnstormers on Tuesday evening as the Sugar Land Skeeters rapped out 14 hits in an 8-4 victory over the ‘Stormers at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

It was the sixth straight loss for the Barnstormers overall and the ninth loss in the last 10 games at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Rene Tosoni was 3-for-5 with three RBI to lead the Skeeters attack. Johan Limonta and Ricky Hague also contributed three hits to the Sugar Land cause on the evening.

Travis Scott’s eighth career homer in Lancaster broke a scoreless tie in the top of the second, but the Barnstormers were able to counter with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. K.C. Hobson led off with a double into the right field corner. He moved to third on a bunt by Kevin Ahrens and scored when Mike McDade lined a single into left center.

However, the Skeeters took control in the third. Johan Limonta led off with a single to the wall in right field off Mike Lee (4-5) and scored when Tosoni plugged the gap in right center with a one-out triple. Hague doubled down the line in left for a 3-1 lead.

Sean Halton lofted a home run onto the deck in right field in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 3-2, but that would be the last run off starter Aaron Thompson (5-3). Thompson would allow nine hits over six innings but did not allow a walk in the effort.

Tosoni did more damage in the fourth. With runners at second and third and two outs, the Sugar Land center fielder lifted a pop fly to right center. Center fielder Trayvon Robinson made a last ditch diving effort, but came up short as the single drove in two more.

Delwyn Young and Hague each drove in a two-out run in the sixth, and Wilfredo Rodriguez, in his only at bat of the night, doubled home a marker in the top of the ninth.

McDade thrilled the crowd of 5,365 with a two-run jolt to right center in the bottom of the ninth, but it came far too late to make a difference in the result.

The homestand concludes on Wednesday morning at 11:00 with Kelvin De La Cruz (3-2) pitching against right-hander Brett Marshall (1-3). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 10:45.
