Lancaster Slugger Named Top Third Baseman
Despite appearing in only 35 games, Lancaster Stormers third baseman Cristian Santana was named to Baseball America’s first half Atlantic League All-Star Team, it was announced today by league officials.
The selection was made recently by the league’s managers. No manager was allowed to vote for his own players.
Santana put together an incredible run over his 35-game stretch. The native of the Dominican Republic batted .423 with 13 homers and 47 RBI. In his final 12 games before heading to Chihuahua of the Mexican League, Santana swung at a .480 clip and drove home 28 runs, including 26 in his final nine games.
Those 12 games were contained within the Stormers league record-tying 15-game winning streak.
“Santana was a big asset for us,” said manager Ross Peeples. “He anchored the middle of our order, and the tear he went on before he left was very impressive. He is well deserving of this honor.”
