Barnstormers Center Fielder Lauded for Glovework
Lancaster center fielder Darian Sandford has been named to the Atlantic League’s Red, White and Blue All-Defense Team, it was announced today by league officials.
Sandford, who used his phenomenal speed to lead the league with 82 stolen bases, also utilized his talent to run down drives from gap to gap and from shallow center to the outfield fences. He robbed numerous batters of base hits. He also made the best use of his speed and arm combined to chalk up 11 outfield assists, the second best total in the league.
He played in 123 of the club’s 126 games during the regular season and all five playoff games, never moving from center field.
“Darian was the sparkplug for our team,” said manager Ross Peeples. “I have really enjoyed watching him control center field for us the last two years. You never know what you might see with him out there. He gets to balls most center fielders do not reach.”
