Becomes Second to Go from Lancaster to Majors This Season

Left-handed reliever Matt Reynolds was called up to the San Francisco Giants late Thursday.

He becomes the second player to go from the Atlantic League’s Lancaster Barnstormers to the Major Leagues this season and the fourth in franchise history.

Earlier this year Phil Coke, another left-hander, was promoted to the New York Yankees after beginning the season as a Barnstormer.

Reynolds joined the Barnstormers during spring training and went on to appear in 26 games for Lancaster. The southpaw only allowed 13 hits in 22 innings while walking four and striking out 32. His contract was purchased by San Francisco on June 23.

The left-hander appeared in 13 games in the Giants’ farm system over the past five weeks. In 10 1/3 scoreless innings, he yielded only three hits and one walk while striking out 14.

Reynolds, 31, returns to the National League West where he has spent the past five seasons with Colorado and Arizona. He is a veteran of 213 Major League appearances.

“We’re really happy for Matt,” said Lancaster manager Butch Hobson. “He did an awesome job for us and continued it after leaving.”
