Barnstormers Take Fourth Straight, 5-3

Chris Proctor snapped a 3-3 tie with an RBI single in the eighth, and the Lancaster bullpen shut the door as the Barnstormers defeated the York Revolution, 5-3, Tuesday evening at People’s Bank Park for their fourth straight win.

The victory put the Barnstormers two games ahead of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in the North race.

Jacob Barfield drew a one-out walk in the eight and moved to second on a single by Ariel Sandoval.  Anderson Feliz topped a ball up the first base line and was tagged out by Bret de Geus (1-1).  Proctor followed with his line drive base hit into left that plated Barfield.  Sandoval scored two batters later when catcher Jhon Nunez bounced a pickoff throw into left.

Chase Johnson held the lead for Dominic DiSabatino (4-3) through the eighth, despite a walk and a scratch single.  Josh Graham fanned the side in the ninth for his sixth save.

The game’s first four runs scored on solo homers.  Nellie Rodriguez belted a ball onto the walkway in right center to stake the Revs to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, but the Barnstormers countered on a line drive homer by Shawon Dunston, Jr.  Barfield put the Barnstormers ahead with his third homer in six games, a blast to right center in the fourth.  Telvin Nash tied it at 2-2 with a shot over the big wall in left in the bottom of that inning.

Trayvon Robinson scored Dunston with a force play grounder in the top of the fifth for a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the sixth, starter Cameron Gann walked Nash with one out.  He struck out Rodriguez, but Melky Mesa launched a single off the right field wall with Nash running on the 3-2 count.

DiSabatino entered and allowed a single to Yefri Perez before escaping the inning on a Nunez ground ball.

Oscar De La Cruz (5-1) will make the Wednesday start against Jorge Martinez (9-4).  Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube channel at 6:25.

NOTES:  Lancaster leads the War of the Roses, 14-10, needing three wins in the remaining eight games to recapture the Community Cup…Sandoval has hit safely in eight of nine games…Graham is 6-for-6 in ninth inning saves…The Barnstormers have won the last four games by only seven runs total…They have not had more than eight hits in a game on the trip…The Barnstormers pitching staff struck out double digit hitters for the 35^th time in 90 games…The team has reached .500 overall at 45-45.
