OAKLAND PURCHASES CONTRACT OF DAN GAMACHE

The Oakland Athletics have purchased the contract of Lancaster Barnstormers’ second baseman, Dan Gamache, it was announced today.

He will report to Class AA Midland of the Texas League.

Gamache, 28, was batting .303 with six home runs and 46 RBI.  The product of Auburn University represented the Barnstormers in last week’s Atlantic League All-Star Game, going 2-for-2 in the contest.  He had appeared in 69 of Lancaster’s first 72 games of the season.

The lefty batter banged out 24 doubles and was on a pace to break the franchise record of 41, set by first baseman Tommy Everidge in 2011.  Coincidentally, Everidge will be Gamache’s hitting coach in the Oakland farm system.

Prior to coming to Lancaster, Gamache spent six seasons in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, one-half season with the Minnesota Twins and 1 ½ years with the Washington Nationals.  He reached Class AAA Indianapolis for 109 games over two seasons (2015-16).

Last year, the Rhode Island native hit .274 with five home runs for Class AA Harrisburg.

“Gamache is a player who is very deserving of this opportunity,” said Lancaster manager Ross Peeples.  “He has been a great player for us.  He goes about his business the right way and never complains.  I am very happy for him.”
