Meet The Elves Behind The Christmas Spirit Light Show

Each winter, Penn Medicine Park transforms from a summer destination for baseball fans into a breathtaking holiday attraction known as the Christmas Spirit Light Show. This annual event has become one of Lancaster’s most beloved seasonal traditions, bringing families, friends, and visitors together to celebrate the joy and wonder of the holidays.

The Christmas Spirit Light Show began as a vision to create a community experience that blended technology, artistry, and holiday spirit. Creator and Head Elf, Chris Brink, visited Nashville in 2015 where he attended a light show unlike anything he had ever seen before. And that’s where it all began. Brink, who had already shown interest in becoming an entrepreneur and starting his own business, saw the perfect opportunity and ran with it.

He had the idea – now all he needed was a name and to think through logistics to make this dream become reality. The name was easy. Brink wanted to capture the magic of the Christmas Spirit! And thus was born… The Christmas Spirit Light Show!

2017 was the inaugural year of the Christmas Spirit Light Show. Year one took place at the Manheim Township Community Park. After a successful first go at it, there were concerns that due to spacing, the Christmas Spirit Light Show would not be able to return in 2018.

Luckily, Stormers President/General Manager Mike Reynolds had the perfect solution. As the Stormers staff were preparing for the off season, trying to plan a Christmas event, Reynolds remembered the Christmas Spirit Light Show that he had visited with his family the year before. Brink and Reynolds got to talking and brought the Christmas Spirit Light Show to the home of the Lancaster Stormers.

The Christmas Spirit Light Show is now entering it’s 9th year (8th at Penn Medicine Park) for the 2025 Christmas season.

Brink is not in this alone. It is a whole family affair. His wife, Yana, and children, Ruehl, Amelie and Silas all play a huge role in the success of the Christmas Spirit Light Show. “I wouldn’t be able to do it without my family”, said Brink, “Yana is the big boss… she keeps the whole thing on track.” In addition to the Brink family, there are approximately 15 crew members that help set up the light show each year.

Every year, for the Brink family, Christmas preparation begins in July. Once July rolls around, they start brainstorming new ideas and ordering any new lights they need. July – September are the planning months and once October hits… it’s go time! In October, Brink, his family and his crew start setting up the lights at Penn Medicine Park.

In addition to the Christmas Spirit Light Show, Brink has a full-time job. “We’ve had to make a lot of sacrifices in our lives, but spending quality time together as a family during the light show makes it worth it”, Brink said.

Brink’s goal for the future of the light show is that one day his kid’s will grow into leadership and keep the family business alive.

According to Brink, the biggest challenges are managing city traffic efficiently and dealing with any inclement weather such as rain or snow.

The keys to the continued growing success are relentless work and the great partnership between the Brink family and the Lancaster Stormers.

Each year, the Christmas Spirit light Show evolves. Growing each and every year, there are now over a million lights. The synchronization is what sets the show apart. Each light is individually programmed, meaning every flash and fade is intentional. The lights “dance” to everything from timeless carols to modern holiday hits.

Each year, a portion of the ticket sales from the Christmas Spirit Light Show get donated to a local non-profit. This year, those proceeds are being donated to Community Action Partnership of Lancaster.

Beyond its dazzling visuals, the Christmas Spirit Light Show represents a larger commitment to community and tradition. It has become a place where generations gather to make memories, where the excitement of the holidays comes to life, and where the spirit of Lancaster shines brightest each December.

Brink shared that his favorite part is seeing families connect and children smile. “We are really proud of what we’ve created and strive to put out a great product every year”, said Brink, “We are beyond grateful for the support of everyone”.

This year’s Christmas Spirit light show opens 11/28 and will run through 12/31! Be sure to stop by to be part of the magic that the Brink family has built here in Lancaster.
