LONG, COLD NIGHT UPENDS BARNSTORMERS

York Prevails, 10-4

The Lancaster Barnstormers could not get out of an inning quickly on Wednesday evening.

Their pitching staff threw the baseball 205 times, York had 24 baserunners and scored in six different  innings along the way as the Revs took the middle game of a three-game series, 10-4.

Trent Giambrone and Alejandro Rivero took the most advantage of York’s constant presence on the bases, driving in four runs apiece.

It was the shortstop Giambrone that broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning, greeting reliever Bret Clarke with an RBI double off the fence in right center, scoring Drew Mendoza, who was walked by Tyler LaPorte (0-1) to start the inning.  After an error kept the inning alive in the fifth, Giambrone delivered a two-run single to center, and Rivero followed with a base hit to right to drive in another as York led, 5-1.

Rivero bashed a two-run homer in the seventh off Donald Goodson, and each knocked home a run against Cole Aker in the ninth.

Shawon Dunston, Jr. drew three walks, stole two bases and scored three times for the Barnstormers.  Trayvon Robinson lashed a two-run single into left in the bottom of the seventh to cut the York lead to 8-4.

Nelvin Correa (1-0) allowed one unearned run in two innings of work to record the win after taking over from emergency starter Denson Hull, who lasted four innings.

The Barnstormers and Revolution will conclude the three-game series on Thursday evening at 6:30. Lancaster will send right-hander Brandyn Sittinger (0-1) to the mound against right-hander Jorge Martinez (0-1).  Fans may tune into FloSports coverage beginning at 6:25.

NOTES:  Robinson was 2-for-3, hitting safely in his fourth straight game…All five Lancaster pitchers gave up at least two hits, at least one walk and at least one run…The Barnstormers played without their hottest hitter, Ariel Sandoval, who sat after banging a foul ball off his foot on Tuesday evening.
