Revs Capture Series Finale, 11-6
The elusive series win escaped the Lancaster Barnstormers once again.
Michael Rockett keyed a four-run seventh inning with a triple to right, and Joel Guzman whacked a three-run homer in the eighth as the York Revolution surged past the Lancaster Barnstormers, 11-6, Sunday afternoon at People’s Bank Park to gain a split of the four-game series.
The Barnstormers failed to win a series for the 15th straight time. Their last series win came at York, June 3-5.
With Sunday’s win, York climbed to within 8-6 in the 2016 PNC Bank War of the Roses.
Lancaster had grabbed its third lead of the afternoon in the top of the fifth on a two-run double to left by Mike McDade, sending Josh Bell and Sean Halton home.
Afterwards, the Barnstormers managed only two singles, while Lancaster pitching was in steady trouble.
Hito Fujie got newcomer Joey Maher out of trouble in the fifth, inducing a bases loaded double play grounder out of Brandon Chaves. Fujie gave up a leadoff single in the sixth, but Travis Witherspoon bunted into a double play to kill any budding rally.
R.J. Hively (0-1, 1-5) was not as fortunate in the seventh. Joel Guzman lined a single to left, and Andres Perez grounded a single through the hole on the left side. Bryan Pounds rapped a sharp grounder down the third base line under Bell’s glove for an RBI double. Rockett sliced a sinking liner to right. Trayvon Robinson attempted a diving catch and came up short with the ball rolling to the warning track for the triple. He scored on a single up the middle by Chaves.
Guzman reached Pete Andrelczyk for the three-run homer in the eighth. It was the first home run allowed by the right-hander since 2014. With runners at first and second, the York first baseman lofted a fly ball toward the edge of the 37-foot high left field wall, missing it barely to the right for his 14th homer of the season.
Bell, Halton and McDade each finished the game with a pair of hits for Lancaster. Jared Mitchell slugged a two-out, three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth to erase Lancaster’s second lead of the afternoon.
Michael Click (3-2) pitched a perfect seventh inning to earn the win.
Lancaster opens a four-game series Tuesday evening at Southern Maryland. Left-handers Kelvin De La Cruz and Brian Burres are slated to be the opposing pitchers. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:45.
