LANCASTER INKS ONE-TIME PHILS FARMHAND Schultz Added to Stormers Staff

The Lancaster Stormers have signed right-handed pitcher Andrew Schultz to a contract, bringing the roster back to the league limit of 26, it was announced by manager Ross Peeples following Friday night’s game.

Schultz, 28, had spent nearly seven years in the Philadelphia farm system, reaching Class AAA Lehigh Vally for one appearance.

The University of Tennessee product was Philadelphia’s sixth round pick in 2019.  He appeared in 147 games in the Phillies system, including 102 at Class AA Reading.  Over 150.2 innings of work, the right-hander struck out 192 while walking 112.  He was 2-13 with seven saves and a 5.21 ERA in his career.

He finished last season in the Mexican League.

“We had interest in Andy last year,” said Peeples.  “He remembered that, and once he was let go from Mexico, he reached out.  We like his arm and got really good reports from a former player of ours that worked with him a couple of years ago.”

The Stormers continue their current homestand with a doubleheader against the Long Island Ducks Sunday at 1:30.  Staten Island will follow for a six-game series, starting Tuesday at 6:45.
