Member of ’14 Championship Squad Rejoins ‘Stormers
Greg Golson, who played a key role in the Lancaster Barnstormers 2014 championship, has rejoined the club, it was announced today by manager Ross Peeples.
Golson, 33, batted .312 with two homers and 20 RBI for the Barnstormers during the 2014 season. He took over the center field role for the post-season and batted .273 in the club’s eight games, homering twice and driving in nine runs. His key blow was a game-tying, two-run double in the bottom of the 12th in Game Three of the Championship Series, setting up Gabe Jacobo’s walkoff home run the following inning.
He also joined the Barnstormers briefly in 2013, playing in only one game. He homered in his first at bat with Lancaster, his only hit. Two days later, his contract was purchased by the Atlanta Braves.
The native of Austin, Texas was the first round draft selection of the Philadelphia Phillies in 2004. He appeared in six games for Philadelphia in 2008. His career also took him to the Texas Rangers for one game in 2009 and 33 contests with the New York Yankees between the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
Golson has also played for New Britain in 2016 and Somerset in 2017. He has a career average of .288 over 191 Atlantic League games. He has hit 10 homers and driven home 85 runs. Golson has also stolen 35 bases.
“Greg is a veteran player who can play all over the outfield,” said Peeples. “He brings some speed and leadership to the team.”
