GIANSANTI HOMER DOWNS ‘STORMERS
Sugar Land Sends Lancaster to Fourth Straight Loss, 8-5
Anthony Giansanti came up with the big blow for the Sugar Land Skeeters on Thursday night, a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the Lancaster Barnstormers, 8-5, at Constellation Field.
It was the fourth straight win for Sugar Land over the ‘Stormers in the weeklong series in Texas.
Wynton Bernard drilled a single into center field off Alejandro Chacin (1-3) with one out in the bottom of the eighth. Rico Noel followed with a base hit to left, and Giansanti unloaded his blast to left center for the decisive runs.
Nick Rumbelow entered in the ninth and retired the side in order for his third save.
Sugar Land scored a run without a base hit in the bottom of the first, but the Barnstormers quickly countered. Zach Shank drew a one-out walk in the second and stole second. Darian Sandford also walked. Caleb Gindl rolled a single through the left side to score Shank with the other runners advancing on a wild throw by Bernard. Destin Hood launched a two-run ground rule double over Zach Borenstein’s head in right for a 3-1 lead.
However, the Skeeters got those three runs back quickly. Juan Silverio led off the bottom of the second with an infield single. Borenstein triple inside the bag at first to make it, 3-2, and Albert Cordero cranked a two-run homer down the left field line for a 4-3 edge. Borenstein’s RBI double in the third gave the Skeeters a two-run edge.
The Barnstormers were able to tie the game in the fifth. Andrew Aplin, who had earlier extended his hitting streak to 13, singled to left. Josh Bell and K.C. Hobson both walked, and Anderson De La Rosa, celebrating his 35th birthday, drove home the tying runs with a single to center off ex-Stormer Ricardo Gomez.
Lancaster failed to produce another hit in the game. Jeff Ames (2-0) fired a scoreless eighth for the win.
The Barnstormers send John Anderson (6-5) to the hill on Friday evening against lefty Matt Purke (3-4). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 7:45 EDT.
NOTES: Aplin is 21-for-50 (.420) in his streak, which is tied for the longest by a Barnstormer this season…Matt Marksberry threw his seventh straight scoreless outing…Hood has six RBI in the current series and 15 in his last 10 games…De La Rosa has hit safely in seven straight…The Barnstormers were again without the services of shortstop Michael Martinez and outfielder Greg Golson…Joe Terdoslavich was also unavailable to the Barnstormers after being injured on a slide into third base on Wednesday evening.

ANDERSON PITCHES ‘STORMERS TO WIN
Lefty Goes Seven in 7-3 Victory
John Anderson dealt seven strong innings, and the Barnstormers rapped out 10 hits as Lancaster picked up its first win in five games at Constellation Field, 7-3.
Anderson (7-5) limited the host Sugar Land Skeeters to four hits and a run over his seven-inning stint. The southpaw walked two and struck out five in notching his second straight win.
The lone run off Anderson came as the result of a leadoff homer by ex-Stormer Rico Noel in the sixth inning.
By then, the Barnstormers owned a 5-0 lead. In the third, Melvin Mercedes became the Barnstormers first baserunner of the night with a bouncing single up the middle. Devon Torrence also singled into center as did Darian Sandford to put Lancaster up, 1-0. Following Sandford’s steal of second, Caleb Gindl dropped a two-run double deep into the right field corner for a 3-0 edge.
A leadoff walk in the sixth from Matt Purke (3-5) was followed by RBI doubles from Destin Hood and Parker Morin for the 5-0 edge.
Lancaster stretched the lead to 7-1 in the top of the eighth. The Barnstormers loaded the bases on infield singles by Aplin and K.C. Hobson around a walk to Hood. Zach Shank singled home one, and the Barnstormers final run of the night was carried home on a wild pitch by Josh Martin.
Sugar Land struck for single runs off Logan Sawyer in the eighth and Cody Eppley in the ninth to inch closer.
Nate Reed (0-2) makes the start for Lancaster on Saturday against right-hander Chase De Jong (2-0). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 7:45 EDT.

BARNSTORMERS WIN BRAWL-MARRED CONTEST
Lancaster Wins, 8-1, as Benches Clear
Devon Torrence bunted for his fourth hit of the night with Lancaster leading, 7-0.
On his fifth trip to the plate, he took a Dan Runzler fastball to the back.
Benches cleared, and by the time order was restored to the field, six players and Sugar Land manager Pete Incaviglia were ejected in a game eventually won by the Barnstormers, 8-1.
Lancaster lost infielder Michael Martinez and temporarily inactive pitcher Buddy Baumann to the thumb along with first baseman K.C. Hobson. Incaviglia was tossed by plate umpire Ken Levanthal along with first baseman Denis Phipps, catcher Albert Cordero and center fielder Rico Noel.
After Torrence was drilled by the pitch in the top of the eighth, he went to take first. Phipps began exchanging words with the Barnstormers side of the field then charged toward the third base side. Benches emptied, and relievers came flying out of the right field bullpens as the two clubs swarmed near the home plate side of the Lancaster dugout. Calm seemed to return to the field, but tempers flared again on the far side of the ‘Stormers perch.
Torrence opened the night with a double flared down the left field line. He took third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Caleb Gindl.
Destin Hood homered off Chase De Jong (2-1) to open the second, but it was in the third when the Barnstormers busted loose. With one out, Torrence singled on a soft liner to center. Darian Sandford chopped a ball toward second baseman Anthony Giansanti, who went to swipe a tag on Torrence but was ruled to have missed. Giansanti’s throw to first was dropped by Phipps for an error.
Caleb Gindl doubled over the head of left fielder Blair Beck for a 3-0 lead. Andrew Aplin singled through the left side to knock home two more and took second on the throw home. Hood made it 6-0 when his bloop down the right field line landed inches fair.
Torrence’s single came after Zach Shank doubled and scored on a single by Melvin Mercedes in the sixth. A single by Gindl produced the ‘Stormers final run of the night.
Nate Reed (1-2) fired 6 1/3 shutout innings to earn his first win of the season. The left-hander walked none and struck out five while scattering six hits.
Sugar Land scored an unearned run in the eighth.
The seven-game series wraps up on Sunday. Jonathan Albaladejo (2-6) will make the start for the Barnstormers against right-hander Dallas Beeler (6-4) in a rematch of Tuesday night. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel at 6:45 EDT.
NOTES: Aplin singled and tripled to extend his hitting streak to 15 games…Torrence had his first game with three or more hits in going 4-for-4 and now has a six-game hitting streak…Reed’s win was his 30th as a Barnstormer, moving him to within two of Dwayne Pollok’s record…Hood has driven in at least one run in nine of his last 10 games and has 18 RBI in his last 12.

BARNSTORMERS DROP FINALE OF WEEKLONG STAY
Lancaster Limited to Six Hits in 3-1 Defeat
After two straight one-sided wins, the Lancaster Barnstormers ran out of gas on Sunday night.
The Barnstormers managed only one single over the last 6 1/3 innings, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Sugar Land Skeeters in the finale of a weeklong series at Constellation Field.
Lancaster let two run-scoring opportunities escape in the early innings. In the top of the first, Devon Torrence reached on a bad hop single, and Caleb Gindl followed with a bloop single to left field. Mike Hauschild (1-0) coaxed a double play out of Andrew Aplin and struck out Joe Terdoslavich to end the threat.
Parker Morin doubled to left center to lead off the second and advanced on a wild pitch, but three straight batters went down without getting the run across the plate.
Lancaster finally broke through in the third when Torrence legged out a double on a smash to right center and scored on a single up the middle by Andrew Aplin.
In the home half of the inning, Jonathan Albaladejo (2-7) retired the first two batters. Javier Betancourt singled to left, and Anthony Giansanti followed with a base hit to left. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, and Wynton Bernard singled off the top of Zach Shank’s glove to score both.
Jason Martinson doubled home an insurance run off Pedro Echemendia in the eighth.
Hauschild worked five innings in his Atlantic League debut, allowing six hits and a run. He walked one and struck out five. Four Sugar Land relievers combined to retire 12 consecutive batters with Nick Rumbelow earning his fourth save.
The Barnstormers are off on Monday before opening a four-game series against the New Britain Bees on Tuesday. Jared Lakind (4-4) will take the hill for Lancaster against Jed Bradley. Fans may tune into Blue Ridge 11 and the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 7:00.
NOTES: The Barnstormers played the game without K.C. Hobson, who was suspended following Saturday night’s on-field altercation…Michael Martinez and Buddy Baumann were also suspended…Sugar Land had to operate minus catcher Albert Cordero, first baseman Denis Phipps and center fielder Rico Noel as well as manager Pete Incaviglia…Andrew Aplin extended his hitting streak to 16 games with his RBI single in the third…Matt Marksberry pitched his eight straight scoreless outing.

BARNSTORMERS STAY HOT AT HOME
Long Balls Pace 5-3 Win
The Lancaster Barnstormers unleashed a four-homer attack on Tuesday evening to defeat the New Britain Bees in the opener of a four-game series and seven-game homestand at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
It was the seventh win in the last eight home games for the ‘Stormers.
Devon Torrence opened the salvo of home runs with a drive to right center field leading off the bottom of the first inning. Two batters later, Caleb Gindl connected for a 2-0 lead. Andrew Aplin crushed a tiebreaking homer off Rainy Lara (5-8) in the third inning while Joe Terdoslavich provided an insurance run with a liner onto the right field deck in the fifth. All of the blasts were solo shots.
The only other Lancaster run scored in the first when Terdoslavich sliced a double into the left field corner, took third on a single to right by Aplin and scored when Anderson De La Rosa singled through the left side.
Jared Lakind (5-4) only surrendered runs in the top of the third, losing his 3-0 lead. He hit one-time Barnstormer Zach Collier with a pitch. Collier stole second and scored from third base with two outs when Bijan Rademacher singled to right. Jason Rogers unloaded a two-run blast to right center to knot the score at three.
Lakind worked 5 2/3 innings, yielding six hits and the three runs. The lefty walked none and struck out two. He benefitted from stellar defensive play in the infield with Terdoslavich and Melvin Mercedes making back-to-back diving catches in the second inning.
Lancaster’s bullpen pitched hitless baseball for the remainder of the night with Alejandro Chacin finishing the sixth inning. Matt Marksberry survived a walk and an error in the seventh, and Scott Shuman was perfect in the eighth inning. Cody Eppley issued a two-out walk to Logan Moore in the ninth before getting Collier to fly out to shallow left for Eppley’s 17th save.
NOTES: Aplin extended his hitting streak to 17 games, three shy of the club record…He is batting .409 (27-for-66) in the streak…Gift Ngoepe tripled to left center in his first Atlantic League at bat…Torrence has hit safely in eight straight games, going 13-for-30…Terdoslavich is batting .419 (26-for-62) since July 17…Shuman threw his ninth straight scoreless inning.

HOME HOT STREAK ENDS ON COMBINED GEM
Morris, Three Relievers Lead New Britain to 1-0 Win Over Barnstormers
The Lancaster Barnstormers ran into their Akeel-es heel on Wednesday evening.
New Britain right-hander Akeel Morris combined with three relievers on a four-hit shutout, pitching the Bees to a 1-0 victory over the Lancaster Barnstormers in the second game of a four-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
It was only the second loss in the last nine home games for the Barnstormers.
Morris (2-2, 3-2) yielded three singles and two walks over the first six innings. The Barnstormers put runners at first and second with one out in both the third and fourth innings but could not capitalize on the opportunity.
Sam Gervacio allowed only a two-out walk in the seventh. Michael Johnson surrendered a one-out infield single to Caleb Gindl in the eighth inning. Jim Fuller closed out the night, striking out two of the three batters he faced for his 12th save.
New Britain scored its only run off John Anderson (7-6) in the top of the fourth. Ryan Jackson smacked on 0-2 delivery into center field to lead off the inning. He took second on a wild pitch and scored when Jason Rogers lined a base hit into center.
Anderson allowed six hits, including a pair of doubles while walking none and striking out seven. Relievers Pedro Echemendia and Bryan Harper were spotless in a combined 2 1/3 innings of relief.
Prior to the start of Wednesday’s action, the clubs agreed to play a nine-inning single game with a doubleheader moved to Thursday. Rains forced a delay of over an hour before play could begin.
Jonathan Albaladejo (2-7) and newcomer Connor Overton, both right-handers will start for the Barnstormers in Thursday’s doubleheader. Lefties David Roseboom (0-1) and Jed Bradley (3-7) will take the hill for New Britain. Fans may tune into Blue Ridge 11 or the Barnstormers’ YouTube Channel beginning at 6:00.
NOTES: Andrew Aplin singled in the fourth inning to extend his hitting streak to 18 games, two shy of the club record…Devon Torrence lost an eight-game streak…Anderson fired his eighth quality start of the season and third in a row…He has a 2.38 ERA in his last eight starts and a 1.35 mark over his last three.

LATE INNING HOMERS DROP ‘STORMERS
Sanchez, Freeman Blasts Lift Long Island
The Lancaster Barnstormers needed five more outs with their setup man and closer in store.
Instead, the Long Island Ducks reached both.
Hector Sanchez drilled a game-tying homer off Scott Shuman in the eighth, and Clint Freeman reached Cody Eppley in the ninth as the Ducks rallied for a 4-2 victory on Friday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
It was the third straight loss for the Barnstormers.
Darian Sandford, making the start at second base, made a great catch on L.J. Mazzilli to start off the eighth inning with the Barnstormers up, 2-1. However, Sanchez connected off Shuman’s 2-1 offering, sending a line drive over the tents to tie the game on the first run allowed by the right-handed flamethrower since July 13.
The ninth inning was almost a repeat. First baseman Andrew Aplin made a leaping backhanded catch to snag a leadoff line drive by Ramon Cabrera, but Freeman, who only recently converted back from pitching to first base lined his first homer of the season with just enough elevation to clear the right field wall to break the 2-2 tie.
For the insurance run, D’Arby Myers reached on a throwing error by Sandford which pulled Aplin only slightly off the first base bag. Myers stole second and third, then came home when Parker Morin made a bad throw into left on the steal of third.
Caleb Gindl staked the Barnstormers to the 2-1 lead with his 14th homer of the season in the third inning that came on the heels of a Devon Torrence base hit to left.
Lancaster never got another baserunner. Starter Brian Matusz set down the final 10 batters he faced, four on strikes. Zack Weiss (3-1) fanned two of the six batters he got to earn the win. Pedro Beato, making his first relief appearance of the season, got the side in order in the ninth.
Connor Overton was impressive for the Barnstormers in his Atlantic League debut. The right-hander yielded only four hits and a run in six innings. He walked one and struck out three.
Nate Reed (1-2) will take the mound for Lancaster in the second game of the series on Saturday evening. He will square off against right-hander Joe Iorio (5-1). Fireworks will follow the game. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 6:15.
NOTES: Andrew Aplin lost his 19-game hitting streak, falling one shy of the club record…He was on deck when the game ended…Joe Terdoslavich singled off Matusz in the first inning, batting left-handed against the lefty due to an injury…Long Island is 12-3 against Lancaster on the season.

REED DOMINATES LONG ISLAND
Back to 2018 Form, Lefty Deals Lancaster to 4-0 Win
Nate Reed is back to his 2018 Pitcher of the Year form. That means opponents are having a hard time scoring.
Reed (2-2) carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning on Saturday night, leaving as soon as Deibinson Romero broke the spell with a two-out, two-strike single, pitching the host Lancaster Barnstormers to a 4-0 win over the Long Island Ducks at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
The left-hander had to deal with only two baserunners over his first six innings of work. He walked L.J. Mazzilli with two outs in the first inning. Mazzilli again reached in the fourth as third baseman Zach Shank bobbled his grounder for an error.
Over his 6 2/3-inning, 84-pitch night, Reed struck out seven. He retired 12 batters on ground balls. Until Romero’s single, no Long Island batter was able to reach the outfielders with a fair ball.
His teammates staked him to a 2-0 lead off Joe Iorio (5-2) in the bottom of the second. Destin Hood cranked a double to the left field wall and took third on K.C. Hobson’s ground out. Gift Ngoepe followed with a two-run homer onto the right field deck, his first long ball in the Atlantic League.
With two outs in the third, Joe Terdoslavich muscled a single into center. He came all the way around to score when Hood drilled a double into the left field corner.
Lancaster scored its final run in the fourth inning. Anderson De La Rosa smacked a one-out single up the middle and moved ahead on a walk to Shank. Darian Sandford stroked a grounder to Mazzilli at second. The Ducks turned the force play on Shank, but Vladimir Frias made a hasty throw in an attempt to double up Sandford and bounced the ball into the dugout, allowing De La Rosa to score.
Long Island was given an opportunity to score in the eighth. Matt Marksberry walked Joe Apostolo to start the inning before retiring the next two batters. With D’Arby Myers batting, a Logan Sawyer pitch eluded De La Rosa, and Myers was able to race to first. Sawyer walked Cade Gotta on a 3-2 pitch to load the bases before Mazzilli grounded to third to end the threat.
Another uprising began to build in the ninth when Lew Ford led off with a double, and Hector Sanchez picked up a one-out walk. Sawyer ended the game, getting Apostolo to ground into a 5-3 double play.
The Barnstormers and Ducks play the finale of the three-game series on Sunday afternoon. Jared Lakind (5-4) will make the start for Lancaster against right-hander Brandon Beachy (0-0). Fans may tune into Blue Ridge 11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 1:00.
NOTES: Reed has not allowed a run in 13 innings over his last two starts…His win was his 31st as a Barnstormer, tying him for second on the club’s all-time list with current manager Ross Peeples…He needs one more to tie Dwayne Pollok for the all-time lead…Caleb Gindl singled in the first inning to extend his hitting streak to nine games, his longest of the season…The two hits was the lowest total by the opposing team this season.

EARLY SINGLES OUTBURST LIFTS DUCKS
Lancaster Rally Comes Up One Run Shy
The Lancaster Barnstormers spent the entire afternoon on Sunday trying to recover from a four-run first inning.
Their fingertips were almost to the finish line when the game ended.
Long Island’s Pedro Beato retired Caleb Gindl on a grounder to second to close the game with the tying run at second base as the Ducks held on for a thrilling, 6-5 victory over the Barnstormers in the series finale at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
With the Barnstormers trailing by three, Parker Morin opened the bottom of the ninth with a single flared into right center and was forced at second by Zach Shank. Devon Torrence walked to bring pinch hitter Destin Hood to the plate as the potential tying run. Hood went down swinging, but Andrew Aplin roped a two-run double into the right field corner to bring the Barnstormers to the edge of overcoming the Ducks before Beato got the final out for his second save.
Jared Lakind (5-5) was the victim of the first inning salvo. After retiring two of the first three batters, he yielded an RBI single to Lew Ford, one day shy of the Long Island DH’s 43rd birthday. Deibinson Romero blooped a single to left to add a second baserunner. Daniel Fields made it 2-0 with a single into right center and moved to third on a late throw to get Romero. Ramon Cabrera singled into center to plate two more.
The Ducks began to roll again the in second. Vladimir Frias smashed a single into center, and D’Arby Myers followed with a bunt base hit. Cade Gotta sacrificed the runners ahead. Frias scored on a single to left by L.J. Mazzilli for a 5-0 lead. With runners at the corners, Ford smoked a line drive that was snared by first baseman K.C. Hobson and turned into a double play.
Long Island was collared on just two hits over the next five innings, giving the Barnstormers the chance to come back. Aplin doubled home a run off Brandon Beachy (1-0) in the third, and Morin made it 5-2 with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. Joe Terdoslavich’s leadoff homer onto the right field deck in the sixth trimmed another run off the lead. That homer was followed by Hobson and Gift Ngoepe singles to put the tying runs on base, but Cody Mincey shut the door for the next 2 2/3 innings.
A much needed insurance run scored for the Ducks in the top of the eighth. Clint Freeman and D’Arby Myers each singled against Bryan Harper who left with two outs. Pedro Echemendia missed with 10 of his first 11 pitches, forcing home a run before eventually retiring Ford on a bases loaded fly ball to deep left to end the inning.
The Barnstormers are off on Monday, then kick off a six-day road trip in Somerset on Tuesday evening. John Anderson (7-6) will take the hill for Lancaster. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel beginning at 6:45.
NOTES: Gindl singled in the eighth to extend his current hitting streak to 10…Aplin is 31-for-82 (.378) with 18 RBI in his last 21 games…Darian Sandford reached 50 stolen bases for the second straight season…Terdoslavich was named as the Booster Club’s Player of the Month for July.

TERDOSLAVICH PROPELS ‘STORMERS TO VICTORY
Five-Hit Performance Leads Lancaster
Joe Terdoslavich put together the best game by a Barnstormer this season, going 5-for-5 with a double and a home run to lead Lancaster to a 7-1 defeat of the Somerset Patriots Tuesday evening at TD Bank Park.
The Lancaster left fielder singled in his first three at bats. Then, with runners at the corners and one out in the top of the seventh, he raked a double deep to the gap in right center to break a 1-1 deadlock. He later scored the third run of the inning on a double inside the bag at third by Destin Hood.
In the ninth, Terdoslavich added his 17th home run of the season, a belt to the opposite field off right-hander Chris Beck.
Meanwhile, John Anderson (8-6) fired his fourth straight quality start for Lancaster. The left-hander yielded five hits and one run while not walking a batter and striking out five over his seven-inning stint.
The Patriots struck Anderson at the outset of the game. Justin Pacchioli singled into right and went all the way to third on a single to the hole at shortstop by Teodoro Martinez. Will Kengor lined to right fielder Caleb Gindl, who fired behind Martinez to complete a double play while Pacchioli scored.
Lancaster managed to tie the game in the third. With one out, Gindl walked and went to second on Terdoslavich’s second hit of the night, a grounder through the right side. Andrew Aplin singled to left to load the bases, and Hood got one run home with a long sacrifice fly to center.
Gift Ngoepe led off the seventh with a single off Liam O’Sullivan (4-7) and was safe at second when Rey Navarro threw away a potential force play grounder by Melvin Mercedes. Gindl forced Mercedes at second for the first out, setting up Terdoslavich against left-hander Jeff Kinley who was greeted by the double. A wild pitch scored Gindl.
Ngoepe added a two-run homer in the eighth.
The Barnstormers and Patriots meet again at 11:05 AM on Wednesday. Right-hander Jonathan Albaladejo (2-7) will make the start against lefty David Holmberg (1-3). Fans may tune into the Somerset Patriots webcast through www.somersetpatriots.com.
NOTES: Terdoslavich had Lancaster’s first five-hit game since April 28, 2018 when Rico Noel had five hits at York…Terdoslavich is 34-for-82 (.415) in his last 21 games…Anderson has allowed one run in each of his last four starts for a 1.33 ERA (4 ER/27.0 IP)…Aplin has hit safely in 21 of 22…Gindl lost a 10-game hitting streak…He had his third assist at first base in the last 22 days.

SOMERSET WALKS OFF ON ‘STORMERS
Ngoepe Knocks In Two In Nail-Biting 4-3 Loss
By Joey Greer
Bridgewater Township, NJ
8/14/19
Gift Ngoepe has been quite the August addition (a “Gift”, if you will) for the Lancaster Barnstormers. Signed by the team on August 6, Ngoepe has started in all eight games the Barnstormers have played since then, and he has hit to a .296/.345/.741 clip with three home runs and six runs batted in. Two of those HRs and four of those RBI have come in the first two games at Somerset.
Despite Ngoepe homering and driving in two early Wednesday, however, Somerset was able to eke out a 4-3, 10-inning win in a matinee game at TD Bank Ballpark.
While Ngoepe (1-3, HR, 2 RBI) was the highlight offensively, it looked for the bulk of the game that the Barnstormers’ pitching staff would be able to provide enough to squeak past the Patriots. Starting pitcher Jonathan Albaladejo threw 6 1/3 strong innings, giving up just two runs on six hits while walking one and striking out two. Relievers Pedro Echemendia and Scott Shuman picked up their third and sixth holds of the season. Echemendia entered the ballgame in the seventh inning with one out, and a runner on third and was able to get a groundout before picking up a punchout to end the inning; Shuman worked the eighth and wiggled out of a bases loaded jam, fanning cleanup batter Edwin Espinal and Gabriel Bracamonte.
Cody Eppley came in for the ninth inning and struck out the first batter he faced, but back-to-back one-out singles and a deep fly out put runners at the corners with two outs. Craig Massey tied the game with a soft line drive single to right.
Devon Torrence was placed at second base to open the 10th inning, a Darian Sandford bunt single (plus a steal of second base), and an intentional walk issued to Andrew Aplin loaded the bases for the Barnstormers with one out, but Patriots’ relief pitcher Luis Cruz (2-3) forced Destin Hood to bounce into a 4-6-3 inning-ending double play.
Garrett Granitz (0-2) was summoned to face the Patriots for their 10th inning with Justin Pacchioli placed at second. Will Kengor’s single to center advanced the runner to third- Espinal grounded to first with Pacchioli holding, and an intentional walk to Bracamonte loaded the bases. Alfredo Rodriguez lofted a fly ball to center. The speedy Pacchioli was able to tag up and score from third base to walk it off when it was deemed that Anderson De La Rosa did not have the ball in his glove when he applied a tag.
The Barnstormers opened the scoring in the second inning when Hood and K.C. Hobson led off with back-to-back doubles, with Hobson picking up his 53rd RBI of the season. Ngoepe’s sacrifice fly to left field two batters later scored Hobson to extend Lancaster’s lead to 2-0, and his home run to left field in the fourth inning made it 3-1 in favor of the visiting Barnstormers off Patriots’ starting pitcher David Holmberg, who pitched five innings, giving up three runs on eight hits with one walk and two strikeouts. The Somerset bullpen (James Pugliese, Nate Roe, and Cruz) held Lancaster to just one hit and one walk with three strikeouts in the final five frames.
Up next for the Barnstormers (12-19, 36-65 overall) is the series finale with the Patriots (12-20, 54-48 overall), set for tomorrow night at 7:05pm. Right-hander Connor Overton (0-0 with a 1.50 ERA) is scheduled to get the start for the Barnstormers, while left-hander Zach Dodson (Atlantic League debut) is scheduled to go for the Patriots. Fans may follow the game on the Atlantic League website and the Lancaster Barnstormers’ Twitter account, @gobarnstormers. The game will also be carried on the Barnstormers YouTube channel, beginning at 6:45.
NOTES: Aplin singled in the third inning and has now hit safely in 22 of his last 23 games…Lancaster’s starters have thrown eight quality starts in the last 11 games…Sandford swiped three bases total and now has 53 for the season…Hood has 21 RBI in his last 20 games…

OVERTON SHUTS DOWN PATRIOTS
Barnstormers Take Series Finale, 7-1
Connor Overton gave the Lancaster Barnstormers his second straight standout performance on Thursday evening.
Thanks to Destin Hood’s four-RBI night, he was rewarded with his first win.
Overton (1-0) fired seven shutout innings, yielding only four singles in pitching the Barnstormers to a 7-1 victory over the host Somerset Patriots at TD Bank Park.
With the win, the Barnstormers pulled to within 6 ½ of both York and Sugar Land in the Freedom Division chase with 38 games left on the schedule.
In all seven of Overton’s innings, the right-hander worked with two outs and the bases empty. Only once did he allow one of the first two batters to reach in an inning – Craig Massey on a ground single through the right side to lead off the fourth. With Massey on the move, Justin Pacchioli attempted to bunt a 3-2 pitch and popped it up, leading to a quick double play.
Pacchioli singled and stole second base with two outs in the sixth, becoming Somerset’s only runner to reach scoring postion in Overton’s seven innings of work.
Hood singled home Caleb Gindl with a grounder off third baseman Rey Navarro’s glove in the third, the only run in the first five innings off Zack Dodson (0-1). Lancaster added two more in the sixth. Walks to Andrew Aplin and K.C Hobson around a single to center by Hood loaded the bases. Michael Martinez picked up one run with a lined single that just sliced past Will Kengor’s glove in right. The next two batters bounced into 3-2 force plays at the plate, but Martinez was able to streak around and score when catcher Yovan Gonzalez returned Parker Morin’s grounder back to first, just missing the double play.
After Somerset spoiled the shutout with Michael Crouse scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth, the Barnstormers salted the game away. With two outs in the top of the ninth, Gindl crashed a double to right center. Joe Terdoslavich followed with a single to right center for a 4-1 lead. Aplin walked for the fourth straight plate appearance, and Hood hammered a three-run homer down the left field line.
The Barnstormers open a three-game weekend series in York on Friday night. Left-hander Jared Lakind (5-5) will make the start for the Barnstormers against right-hander Duke von Schamann. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:15.
NOTES: Aplin has hit safely in 23 of his last 24 games…He has walked in seven of his last eight plate appearances…Hood has 25 RBI in his last 18 starts…Terdoslavich had eight hits in the series…Overton threw the Barnstormers’ ninth quality start in the last 12 games…Lancaster outscored Somerset, 17-6, in the series but only won two of the three games.

DOTEL PACEs YORK RALLY
‘Stormers Stumble after Early Lead
The Lancaster Barnstormers struck for five early runs against the York Revolution on Friday night but were unable to hold on, losing, 6-5, in the opener of a three-game weekend series.
Lancaster is now 2-2 on its current six-game road swing.
Joe Terdoslavich and Andrew Aplin lined back-to-back singles with one out in the first inning, and the Barnstormers were able to cash in on the opportunity when K.C. Hobson smoked a two-out double inside the first base bag.
The Barnstormers continued to get to Duke von Schamann in the second. Anderson De La Rosa led off with a home run over the big wall in left. Darian Sandford and Gift Ngoepe followed with singles, and Sandford was able to score from third on a foul pop up caught by first baseman Isaias Tejeda with his back to the plate.
York countered with a single run off starter Nate Reed in the bottom of the third, but the Barnstormers stretched the lead to 5-1 in the top of the fourth. Singles by De La Rosa, Sandford and Gindl loaded the bases. Terdoslavich produced Lancaster’s fourth run with a sacrifice fly. Sandford scored all the way from second on a muffed pickoff, and the Barnstormers found themselves up, 5-1.
Reed was unable to last the fifth. With two outs and two on board, Tejeda raked a double to left, scoring one. Melky Mesa followed with a single to right, cutting the lead to 5-4. Angelys Nina chased Reed with a single into right before Alejandro Chacin ended the inning with Ryan Dent flying out to center.
However, Chacin (1-4) was unable to secure the lead in the sixth. Justin Trapp drilled a double into the left field corner and scored when Dotel bounced a single into left. Chacin walked Telvin Nash, and the Barnstormers went to Matt Marksberry to counter left-handed Carlos Franco. Marksberry won that battle, getting a 3-6 force out. He could not get through Tejeda, however, as the York first baseman singled up the middle to drive home the decisive run.
The Barnstormers managed only one baserunner over the final five innings, a single by Ngoepe in the sixth. Robert Carson (3-0) notched the win. Jameson McGrane struck out the side in the ninth for his 15th save.
Game two of the series comes up on Saturday evening. Lefty Jared Lakind (5-5) will take the hill for the ‘Stormers against right-hander Ricky Schafer (2-1). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:15.
NOTES: Aplin has hit safely in 24 of 25…Terdoslavich has a seven-game streak…The hit off Marksberry was the first he has allowed since July 17…Gindl picked up his 70th RBI and Terdoslavich his 60th…The Barnstormers have outscored their opponents, 22-12, on the trip.

BARNSTORMERS ROUT YORK
Gindl Drives in Four in 12-3 Win
The Lancaster Barnstormers kept their feet firmly on the accelerator Saturday evening.
Lancaster rapped out 13 hits, six for extra bases, in routing the York Revolution, 12-3, in the middle game of a three-game series at People’s Bank Park.
Caleb Gindl stepped to the forefront with his first four-RBI game of the season. The Lancaster right fielder, after walking his first two trips, blasted a solo homer in the fourth to chase starter Ricky Schafer (2-2). He drove in a run with a slow roller in the seventh and drilled a two-run single in the eighth to cap the scoring.
The Barnstormers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the season on an RBI ground rule double by Gift Ngoepe and two-run single by Andrew Aplin. Following the Gindl knockout blow to Schafer, Joe Terdoslavich slugged an opposite field homer off reliever Philip Walby for a 5-0 lead. Aplin doubled down the first base line, and Destin Hood drilled a single to the gap in left center for a 6-0 lead.
Carlos Franco started a York comeback in the home fourth with a two-out, two-run homer down the left field line for the only two runs off Jared Lakind (6-5). Lakind and the Barnstormers got a break in the bottom of the sixth when, with the score still, 6-2, Melky Mesa belted a double off the top right corner of the “Arch Nemesis,” missing a two-run homer run by no more than a couple feet in two directions.
A two-run single by Devon Torrence, batting for the first time in the game, helped Lancaster pull away in the seventh, but York still had a last gasp.
Ryan Dent homered off Pedro Echemendia to start the seventh. York would load the bases on two singles and a walk before Garrett Granitz came to the rescue one out into the inning. Granitz got Isaias Tejeda to pop to shortstop on a running catch by Michael Martinez. Franco grounded to first to close out the threat.
Lancaster and York meet for the rubber game of the series on Sunday afternoon. John Anderson (8-6) will make the start for the Barnstormers against right-hander Ricky Eusebio (1-0). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel beginning at 12:45.
NOTES: Gindl’s homer was his first on the road this season…He moved to within three of Telvin Nash for the league RBI lead (77-74)…Terdoslavich hit safely for the eighth straight game…Aplin and Anderson De La Rosa have each hit safely in six in a row…Gindl reached base for the 14th straight game…The Barnstormers knocked out 10 or more hits for the sixth straight game…Lakind threw his seventh quality start…Parker Morin and Ngoepe were lifted for health reasons heading into the bottom of the sixth.

OFFENSE CONTINUES TO ROLL
Barnstormers Outlast York, 10-7, to Take Series
For the first time all season, the Barnstormers scored 10 or more runs in back-to-back games.
On Sunday afternoon, they needed, most, if not all, of the runs.
Lancaster banged out 14 hits then had to survive a ferocious York comeback for a 10-7 victory over the Revs in the rubber game of a three-game series at People’s Bank Park.
For the third straight game, the Barnstormers galloped out to a big early lead. Andrew Aplin drilled a two-run single, and Melvin Mercedes knocked home one with a single to right before Ricky Eusebio (0-2) could pick up the first out of the afternoon. Lancaster would tack on another run in the second and jumped ahead, 6-1, on a two-out, two-run single by Destin Hood in the fourth.
That lead grew in the sixth inning as Hood, Anderson De La Rosa and Darian Sandford all collected RBI base hits for a 9-1 cushion.
John Anderson (9-6) checked York on one run and three hits heading into the bottom of the sixth. Isaias Tejeda lined a one-out single into left. Anderson retired Carlos Franco on a pop up to shortstop and struck out Zach Sullivan for his eighth strikeout of the afternoon, but the third strike eluded De La Rosa, keeping the inning alive. Angelys Nina banged a single into center to trim the lead to 9-2, and Ryan Dent reached on an error as a second run scored.
York pulled within two and brought the tying run to the plate in the eighth inning. Tejeda led off with a double over Sandford’s head in center against Matt Marksberry. Franco bounced a grounder toward the hole on the right side on which Melvin Mercedes raced to field the ball, then made a wide throw to first, putting Revs runners at second and third. Sullivan drove home one with a ground ball. Nina reached on the second error by Terdoslavich to cut the lead to 9-5. Dent then clubbed a two-run homer as the Revs got within two. Following a strikeout of James Skelton, Justin Trapp picked up his third hit of the day on a single to left center. Welington Dotel flied out to end the threat.
Sandford walked, and Mercedes singled him to third to open the ninth. Caleb Gindl picked up the insurance run with a sacrifice fly to left.
Scott Shuman was given his first test as the closer. The right-hander fanned Telvin Nash with a fastball, but Tejeda reached when his ground ball slipped under the glove of shortstop Michael Martinez. Carlos Franco chopped a single over K.C. Hobson’s glove at first to bring Sullivan to the plate as the tying run. The York left fielder drilled a liner barely foul down the left side before popping up to Hobson. Nina grounded to third to close out the afternoon.
The Barnstormers will entertain the High Point Rockers on Monday evening with Jonathan Albaladejo (2-7) on the hill for Lancaster against right-hander Edwin Carl. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:45.

ROCKERS WRECK ‘STORMERS HOMECOMING
High Point Rallies for 8-6 Win in Series Opener
The Lancaster Barnstormers continued to hit and score on Monday evening, but they could not hold on to the lead they constructed.
High Point struck for seven unanswered runs over the final three innings to race past the ‘Stormers for an 8-6 victory in the opener of a four-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
The loss ended a two-game winning streak for the Barnstormers and knocked them to 6 ½ games behind York in the Freedom Division.
With the Barnstormers leading, 6-1, heading into the seventh, starter Jonathan Albaladejo, working on a one-hitter, yielded a leadoff walk to Michael Russell. Myles Schroder added a single to right, and Giovanni Alfonzo grounded to short to advance the runners. Matt Jones then unloaded his first home run in the Atlantic League, a three-run blast to left, slicing the lead to 6-4.
Bryan Harper and Scott Shuman combined to retire five in a row to get Lancaster through the eighth, but Cody Epplay (1-6) could not finish off the night. Michael Russell rapped a 1-2 pitch down the left field line for a leadoff double. One out later, Alfonzo found the gap in right center to put the tying run in scoring position and quickly took third on a wild pitch. Jones walked, and Stephen Cardullo tied the game with a shallow fly ball to left center that barely eluded Devon Torrence’s sliding grab. Jared Mitchell drove a two-run double into the left field corner to decide the game.
Caleb Gindl tried to ignite a rally in the bottom of the ninth with a leadoff single, but Ryan Kelly quickly snuffed it out for his eighth save.
Michael Martinez gave the Barnstormers a 1-0 lead with a two-out homer in the second. Jones tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth. Andrew Aplin responded with a three-run homer off Edwin Carl in the bottom of the fifth inning, and Torrence greeted reliever Chase Huchingson with a two-run triple in the sixth.
Paul Clemens (2-2) threw a perfect eighth, striking out two, to earn the win.
Lancaster hosts High Point again on Tuesday with right-hander Connor Overton (1-0) on the hill. The Rockers will counter with right-hander Matt Sergey (1-1). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:45.
NOTES: Aplin extended his current streak to eight and has hit safely in 27 of 28 overall…Torrence is 11-for-23 (.478) against High Point…Gindl reached base for the 16th straight game…Joe Terdoslavich lost a nine-game hit streak…Destin Hood had his 15th extra base hit in his last 22 starts, a double off the wall in left center in the seventh inning.

MITCHELL SLAM OPENS UP PITCHERS DUEL
Barnstormers Drop 7-1 Decision
For the second time this season, Jared Mitchell launched a grand slam against the Lancaster Barnstormers. He did it for his second different club.
Mitchell belted his slam in the top of the seventh inning to break open a close game and send the High Point Rockers to a 7-1 victory over the Barnstormers Tuesday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
Connor Overton (1-1) departed after six innings with the Barnstormers trailing, 2-1. In the seventh, Viosergy Rosa grounded a single up the middle off reliever Matt Marksberry to get things underway. Myles Schroder drilled a base hit off the glove of diving third baseman Joe Terdoslavich to add a second baserunner. Marksberry left after Giovanny Alfonzo fouled out on a bunt bid.
Garrett Granitz walked pinch hitter Matthew Jones to load the bases. Granitz then hit Stephen Cardullo with a pitch to force home a run before Mitchell left the park to right center for the 7-1 advantage.
Mitchell also hit a grand slam for Sugar Land at Clipper Magazine Stadium on May 7.
Overton retired the first 11 High Point batters of the night and still had a shutout into the fifth inning. Richie Shaffer got to him for a leadoff single to left and scored when Rosa drilled a double off the fence in right center, and right fielder Andrew Aplin slipped and fell trying to play the carom.
High Point scored again off the right-hander in the sixth as Cardullo lined a single to left, moved up on a balk and came home with one out as Hector Gomez knocked a single into center.
Overton finished the night having yielded five hits and two runs while walking nobody and striking out eight.
Meanwhile, Matt Sergey (2-1), pitching for the first time since late May, shut down the Barnstormers over the first five innings on four singles, three walks and two hit batters.
The Barnstormers picked up their only run of the night in the bottom of the sixth. Parker Morin doubled to the gap in right center. Melvin Mercedes advanced him to third with a right side ground ball. With two outs, Devon Torrence yanked a single into right center to bring Lancaster within a run.
Lancaster will again host High Point on Wednesday evening. The Barnstormers will send Nate Reed to the mound as the left-hander seeks to tie Dwayne Pollok as the all-time wins leader in club history. Right-hander Michael Bowden (1-1) will take the hill for Sugar Land. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 6:45.
NOTES: Andrew Aplin reached on an infield base hit when Sergey failed to cover first base in the fifth inning, stretching Aplin’s most recent hitting streak to nine games…Caleb Gindl reached base four times in the game, extending his on base streak to 17 contests…Overton has gone 18 2/3 innings without yielding a walk…Gindl pitched for the first time since July 12, facing three batters in the ninth inning.

Dwayne Pollok has company.
Nate Reed yielded one run over five innings in an 8-2 victory over the High Point Rockers on Wednesday night, tying Pollok with his 32nd career Barnstormers win for the franchise record.
Reed (3-2) retired 12 of 14 batters over the first four innings before Myles Schroder reached him for a one-out solo homer down the left field line in the bottom of the fifth. The Rockers stretched out Reed for 29 pitches in the bottom of the fifth, and Lancaster manager Ross Peeples lifted him after the inning.
The left-hander received plenty of support from his Barnstormers teammates. K.C. Hobson led off the bottom of the second inning and moved to third base on a bunt single by Anderson De La Rosa. Melvin Mercedes drilled a base hit into left to give Lancaster a 1-0 lead.
In the fourth, De La Rosa ripped a double into the left field corner to start the fourth inning. Mercedes again singled to left, sending De La Rosa to third. Darian Sandford gave Lancaster a 2-0 lead with a base hit into right. Starter Michael Bowden (2-3) left the game with an injury in favor of Ashur Tolliver. The lefty reliever picked up two outs around a walk to Caleb Gindl and nearly got out of the inning before walking Andrew Aplin to force home a run. Destin Hood fell behind, 0-2, before raking a three-run double over the head of Schroder in center to clear the bases, giving Reed and the Barnstormers a 6-0 lead.
Pedro Echemendia and Logan Sawyer pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the Barnsotrmers. De La Rosa finished the night with three hits while Gindl, Devon Torrence and Mercedes had two each.
The series closes on Thursday evening at 7:00. Lancaster will send Jared Lakind (6-5) to the mound against right-hander Dominic DeMasi (6-2). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel at 6:45.

LANCASTER FALLS IN SERIES FINALE
Gindl Picks Up Three Hits, Homer in Loss
Caleb Gindl had a big night. High Point’s lineup had a bigger one.
The Barnstormers right fielder went 3-for-4 with a home run, but it was not nearly enough as the Rockers overwhelmed Lancaster, 9-3, in the finale of a four-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
With the loss, the Barnstormers fell 7 ½ games behind the York Revolution in the second half race in the Freedom Division. High Point climbed to within one-half game of the Long Island Ducks on the Liberty side while maintaining a four-game lead in the wild card chase.
Gindl clocked a long home run off Dominic DeMasi (7-2) to open the game for the Barnstormers, driving a 3-0 pitch from the High Point right-hander beyond the tents in right field for the quick 1-0 lead. He would be involved in both other Lancaster runs, scoring on an Andrew Aplin sacrifice fly in the third and singling home Darian Sandford with a base hit into right center in the seventh inning. In the process, Gindl extended his current on-base streak to 19 games and his hitting streak to nine in a row.
High Point took advantage of Lancaster’s only defensive misplay of the night to score its first run. After Richie Shaffer was kept alive on a dropped foul popup, he drew a leadoff walk from Jared Lakind (6-6). Myles Schroder reached on an infield single, and Michael Russell tied the game with a base hit to right.
The Rockers continued the momentum into the third. Stephen Cardullo drilled a double into the left field corner, and Jared Mitchell drew a walk. Hector Gomez snapped the 1-1 tie with a single to left center, bringing Cardullo home Lakind struck out Quincy Latimore and nabbed Mitchell trying to steal third, but an RBI single up the middle by Viosergy Rosa and double off the right field wall by Schroder increased the High Point lead to 4-1.
Home runs by Matthew Jones and Rosa and a two-run double by Gomez padded the lead for the Rockers, who have won 14 of 18 meetings against the Barnstormers on the season.
DeMasi worked seven innings, allowing nine hits and three runs. The right-hander walked none and struck out six in beating the Barnstormers for the third straight time.
Lancaster opens a three-game series against the Sugar Land Skeeters on Friday evening. John Anderson (10-6) will take the hill for the Barnstormers. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:45.
NOTES: Gindl has reached base on 13 of his last 17 plate appearances…He is hitting .424 with five homers and 15 RBI against High Point on the season…Devon Torrence was 2-for-3 to improve his average against the Rockers to .471 (16-for-34)…Aplin lost a hitting streak at 10 games…Sandford stole his 55th base of the season and his 182nd in the Atlantic League.

HOOD, DE LA ROSA PACE LANCASTER WIN
‘Stormers Drub Sugar Land, 8-2
Destin Hood and Anderson De La Rosa stroked back-to-back doubles twice as the Lancaster Barnstormers decisively defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters, 8-2, in the opener of a three-game weekend series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
With the win, the Barnstormers moved back to within 6 ½ games of the top spot in the Freedom Division.
An unearned run got the Barnstormers on the board in the first inning, but it was in the third that Lancaster got the ball rolling against Dallas Beeler (7-6). Joe Terdoslavich muscled a single into right center and moved up on a walk to Andrew Aplin. Hood rapped a single up the middle for a 2-0 lead. He and Aplin advanced on a wild pitch, and De La Rosa made it 3-0 with a sacrifice fly lined to left. After K.C. Hobson lined to right center for the second out, Michael Martinez picked up Hood from second with a single into center.
In the fifth, Hood drove a long double into the left field corner with one out. De La Rosa reached the right center field fence with another two-bagger for a 5-0 edge.
Hood and De La Rosa each pounded a double deep to left center to open the seventh as the Barnstormers pulled away. Martinez and Devon Torrence tacked on RBI singles to close the 12-hit, eight-run attack.
John Anderson (10-6) dodged trouble through the first three innings as the Skeeters went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position, stranding six. The lefty retired the side in order in both the fourth and fifth innings, but the Skeeters were able to reach the scoreboard in the sixth. D.J. Peterson drew a leadoff walk on a full count pitch. Denis Phipps took a 2-2 pitch onto the right field deck for his 20th home run of the season.
Anderson was lifted after a one-out single by Albert Cordero. He allowed seven hits and two runs over his 5 1/3 innings, walking two. Anderson matched his season high with eight strikeouts.
Lancaster’s bullpen shut down Sugar Land on two hits over the final 3 2/3 innings.
The Barnstormers host Sugar Land at 6:30 on Saturday evening. Jonathan Albaladejo (2-7) will make the start for Lancaster against right-hander Chase De Jong (3-2). It will be Halloween in August. Fireworks will follow the game. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:15.

SOLO HOMERS NOT ENOUGH
‘Stormers Drop 4-3 Decision
Caleb Gindl and Joe Terdoslavich hit booming solo home runs on Saturday evening, but they were not enough as the Sugar Land Skeeters eked out a 4-3 decision over the Lancaster Barnstormers in the middle game of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
Sugar Land scored in the top of the first off Jonathan Albaladejo (2-8). Wynton Bernard singled and stole second. A base hit up the middle by Jason Martinson sent Bernard to third. With one out, Martinson was put into motion, and Zach Borenstein’s grounder to second produced the run.
Gindl answered with a blast off the back ad signs in right center off Chase De Jong (4-2).
Sugar Land picked up its second lead of the night as right fielder Blair Beck cranked his third homer of the season down the left field line to start the fifth.
Terdoslavich’s blast to right center, his 19th of the year, retied the game in the bottom of the sixth.
The Barnstormers could not come up with the big play in the final two frames.
In the eighth, Rico Noel lined a single into left center to start the inning. He took second on a deep fly to center by Bernard and stole third. Albaladejo struck out Jason Martinson, but the third strike got away from Parker Morin as the lead run scored.
A bases loaded sacrifice fly by Noel in the ninth added an insurance run.
After loading the bases with one out in the eighth and failing to get the tying run across the plate, the Barnstormers got another chance in the ninth. WIth two outs, Darian Sandford hit a sharp comebacker which caromed off Dan Runzler and rolled away. Runzler’s rushed throw ended up down the right field line as Sandford raced to second. Greg Golson singled home the run to cut the deficit to one. Devon Torrence kept the game alive with another base hit to right center, sending Golson to third. Gindl walked, but Runzler coaxed a force play grounder out of Terdoslavich to end the game.
The rubber game of the series will be played at 5:00 on Sunday. Lancaster will send right-hander Connor Overton (1-1) to the hill against right-hander Mike Hauschild (3-0). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 4:45.
NOTES: Gindl extended a hitting streak to 10 games and his on base streak to 21…Torrence hit in his sixth straight game…Albaladejo threw his fourth quality start…Destin Hood had his fifth double in his last five games…Golson had three hits in his first start since August 7…He has 11 hits in his last 19 at bats.

ANOTHER FIVE-RUN SEVENTH DOWNS ‘STORMERS
Peterson, Stanley Doubles Pace Sugar Land
The seventh inning was toxic to the Lancaster Barnstormers on their homestand, and the finale was no different.
Sugar Land used four walks and two doubles to produce five runs in the top of the seventh early Sunday evening as the Skeeters captured their last meeting with the ‘Stormers this season, 7-2.
Connor Overton (1-2) was 106 pitches into the night but remained in the game to open the seventh. He retired Rico Noel on a ground ball to start the inning. Wynton Bernard drew a walk and scored on a long double to left center field by D.J. Peterson. Alejandro Chacin took over and walked the next three batters to force home the second run of the inning. Cody Stanley drilled a double inside the first base bag, clearing the bases for a 7-2 lead.
Lancaster struck for the night’s first run. Darian Sandford led off the third inning with a single lined off the left wrist of starter Mike Hauschild. Sandford stole second and moved to third on a ground ball by Melvin Mercedes. Devon Torrence picked up the run with a single chopped through the right side. Torrence later stole second. Joe Terdoslavich was hit by a pitch, bringing up Destin Hood. With Torrence running, Hood ripped a line drive to the left side that hit the runner for the final out.
Immediately Sugar Land tied the game. Denis Phipps singled into center, and Zach Borenstein launched a double over Sandford’s head in center.
Lancaster retook the lead with a one-out solo homer by Michael Martinez in the home fourth. Again, the Skeeters answered as Peterson clubbed his sixth homer to left center, tying the game at 2-2.
The Barnstormers open a four-game series against Somerset on Monday evening. Lancaster will send lefty Nate Reed (3-2) to the hill against right-hander Tyler Cloyd (0-1). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:45.
NOTES: Caleb Gindl lost his 10-game hitting streak and 21-game on-base streak…Anderson De La Rosa hit safely for the 10th straight game…Torrence hit safely for his seventh consecutive game, and Sandford hit safely for the sixth straight…Bryan Harper pitched his fifth straight scoreless appearance.

SOMERSET TAKES WIN IN SECOND GAME OF THE SERIES
Big Bottom Of The Eighth Sinks ‘Stormers
Written By: Joey Greer on 8/27/19
BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP, NJ
For seven innings on this Tuesday night at TD Bank Ballpark, Lancaster Barnstormers’ starting pitcher Jared Lakind and reliever Pedro Echemendia held the Somerset Patriots off the scoreboard. For five innings, the one run the Barnstormers were able to put on the board in the top of the third inning was the only offense on the night, and it looked as if the ‘Stormers could pull off their second straight one-run victory over the Patriots.
Then came the bottom of the eighth inning. The Patriots scored seven runs off Barnstormers’ relievers Logan Sawyer (1-1) and Bryan Harper and that was all she wrote in a 7-1 Patriots victory.
Sawyer was summoned for the second consecutive evening to start the eighth. A leadoff double to right by Alfredo Rodriguez ignited the outburst. Gabriel Bracamonte dropped a sacrifice bunt back to the mound, but third baseman Joe Terdoslavich missed the tag on a throw from Sawyer, giving Somerset runners on the corners. A walk loaded the bases, and shortstop Michael Martinez’s bounced a throw low and away from catcher Anderson De La Rosa on a grounder by Mike Ohlman as the tying run scored.
Harper came in to attempt to stop the bleeding with the bases loaded and no outs, but was only able to get one out despite facing four batters. After a pop up in foul territory from Jimmy Paredes resulted in the first out of the inning, a walk to Michael Crouse forced in the lead run. Rey Navarro produced another with a station-to-station single, and a second bases loaded walk forced in the fourth Patriots run of the inning. Back-to-back singles off Cody Eppley allowed all three of Harper’s men to score as the Patriots piled it on in their way to the 7-1 victory in the second game of the four game set in front of 4,416 fans.
Prior to the Somerset outburst, the game featured a tremendous pitchers’ duel. Lakind pitched six shutout innings in his eighth quality start of the season, giving up six hits with one walk and five strikeouts- Three of those hits and two of those strikeouts came in a high-intensity bottom of the sixth inning where Lakind threw 22 of his 83 pitches while preserving his 1-0 lead. Echemendia tacked on a scoreless seventh, allowing one walk. Patriots starter Rick Teasley fired seven strong innings, yielding six hits and one run while walking one and striking out seven on 101 pitches.
Right-handers Nate Roe (3-2) and Chris Beck, who both threw scoreless innings while yielding no baserunners and striking out one batter apiece.
Lancaster managed its only run in the third on the speed of Darian Sandford. The Lancaster center fielder greeted Teasley with a single, stole second and took third on a K.C. Hobson grounder before scoring on a passed ball charged to Ohlman.
The ‘Stormers best chance to add to their total came in the top of the fifth inning when De La Rosa and Martinez strung together one-out singles, but a groundout by Melvin Mercedes and a Devon Torrence strikeout ended the threat. De La Rosa and Martinez both went 2-4 on the night as they combined for four of Lancaster’s six hits, with Sandford and Hobson recording the others.
Up next for the Barnstormers (18-26, 42-72 overall) is the third game of this four game series with the Patriots (18-27, 60-55 overall), set for tomorrow night at 7:05pm. Left-hander John Anderson (10-6 with a 3.71 ERA) is scheduled to get the start for the Barnstormers, while right-hander Liam O’Sullivan (5-8 with a 3.06 ERA) is scheduled to go for the Patriots. Fans may tune in to the Lancaster Barnstormers’ YouTube Channel (go barnstormers baseball) at 6:45pm for the Gochnauer’s Home Appliance Center Dugout Report, with play-by-play action to follow.
NOTES: De La Rosa stretched his hitting streak to 11 games, the fourth longest on the team this season…Sandford has hit safely in eight in a row…His steal in the third was his 58th of the season and his 185th as a Barnstormer, moving him within six of the fifth place on the league’s career list…Lakind has thrown six of his eight quality starts away from Clipper Magazine Stadium.

BARNSTORMERS POWER THROUGH NINTH
Homer, Double Take Lancaster to Win
The Barnstormers put on a power show with two outs in the ninth inning on Wednesday night.
A double by Caleb Gindl broke a 2-2 tie, and a two-run homer by Destin Hood provided insurance as the Barnstormers grabbed a 6-2 victory over the Somerset Patriots at TD Bank Park in Bridgewater, NJ.
Melvin Mercedes opened the ninth with a single to left off Chris Beck (0-1) and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Darian Sandford. K.C. Hobson flied to right for the second out before Gindl doubled to center to give Lancaster its first lead of the night. Joe Terdoslavich added an RBI single into center and moved to second on a bad throw by Michael Crouse. Hood then unloaded his eighth homer of the season to cap the scoring.
Starter John Anderson battled through the first 5 2/3 innings but kept Lancaster in the game. The left-hander allowed nine hits and three walks but was masterful at working out of tight jams.
He yielded a run in the second on Alfredo Rodriguez’ single to right, after almost forcing the Patriots to waste a leadoff triple by Crouse. In the fourth, Yovan Gonzalez picked up a leadoff walk and moved to second on a bunt single by Scott Kelly, who went 4-for-4 for the Patriots. Rodriguez moved the runners to second and third with a sacrifice, and Will Kengor made it 2-0 with a pop fly single into center. Kelly was thrown out trying to steal third, and Edwin Espinal struck out swinging to end the inning.
Overall, nine of Anderson’s baserunners were stranded, including the final two when Garrett Granitz entered from the left field bullpen to whiff Kengor for the final out in the sixth.
Hobson led the Barnstormers recovery. In the fifth, he walked with two outs, as did Gindl. Terdoslavich came through with a single into right to get the first run home. Hobson also belted his second homer off the series, a drive to right with one out in the seventh, to tie the game against lefty reliever Luis Cruz.
Logan Sawyer (2-1), the losing pitcher on Tuesday, pitched a perfect eighth inning to earn the win.
The Barnstormers and Patriots play the final game of the season series on Thursday evening. Lancaster will send right-hander Jonathan Albaladejo (2-8) to the mound against Somerset lefty David Holmberg (1-5). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 6:45.
NOTES: Anderson struck out eight, increasing his season total to 122…He needs eight to tie Bryan Evans (2016) for the single season ‘Stormers record…Darian Sandford hit safely in his ninth straight game with a single in the second…He stole his 59th base of the season and 186th as a Barnstormer, moving him within five of fifth place in league history…Hood’s last two homers have come at Somerset…Scott Shuman pitched the ninth, tossing scoreless baseball for the 16th time in his last 17 appearances.

NO TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW FOR NINTH INNING RALLY
Somerset Holds off Lancaster, 5-3
The Lancaster Barnstormers wish they could have borrowed some of Wednesday evening’s ninth inning runs.
Unfortunately, baseball does not work that way.
The night after scoring four two-out runs in the ninth, the Barnstormers failed to capitalize on another chance, leaving the tying runs on base in dropping a 5-3 decision against the Somerset Patriots Thursday evening at TD Bank Park.
K.C. Hobson and Caleb Gindl opened the ninth inning with consecutive walks against Nate Roe. Roe caught a break when Joe Terdoslavich’s liner to right was snagged by Will Kengor for the first out. The right-hander then coaxed a 6-4-3 game ending double play out of Destin Hood, who had homered in the ninth the previous night, to pick up his first save.
Lancaster jumped ahead, 2-1 in the top of the third. With two outs, Gindl singled into right and advanced to second when Terdoslavich walked. Hood delivered a run with a single into right field to tie the game. Anderson De La Rosa’s grounder to third baseman Jimmy Paredes was misplayed, allowing Terdoslavich to score a second run off David Holmberg (2-5).
Jonathan Albaladejo (2-9) held the lead until the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Craig Massey singled, stole second and took third on a balk. Scott Kelly banged a double to left to tie the game. One out later, Kengor drilled his second double of the night on a liner to left to score Kelly for a 3-2 lead.
Michael Crouse and Michael Martinez exchanged solo homers later in the game to give the Patriots a 4-3 edge. Somerset tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth when Edwin Espinal doubled and came all the way home on as strike three to Paredes eluded Anderson De La Rosa.
The Barnstormers return home to take on the New Britain Bees in a doubleheader on Friday evening at 6:00. Lancaster will send right-hander Connor Overton to the mound in the opener against right-hander Cory Riordan. For the nightcap, the Barnstormers have not committed to a starter. Lefty Giovanni Soto will take the hill for the Bees. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 5:45 PM.
NOTES: De La Rosa lost his hitting streak at 11 games, the fourth longest by a Barnstormer this season…Darian Sandford hit safely for his 10th straight contest and stole his 60th base of the season…Hood has 37 RBI in his last 31 starts…Somerset won the season series, 11-10, marking the seventh straight season that the Patriots have defeated the Barnstormers on the year.

GINDL, TERDOSLAVICH PACE WIN IN OPENER
Back-to-Back Homers Open Game
Caleb Gindl and Joey Terdoslavich slammed consecutive homers leading off the game to lead the Lancaster Barnstormers to a 7-4 victory over the New Britain Bees in the opener of Friday night’s doubleheader at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
The pair both connected on 1-2 pitches from Cory Riordan (7-8). Lancaster extended the lead to 3-0 on an RBI infield single by K.C. Hobson in the bottom of the second before the Bees began to battle back.
New Britain struck for a pair of runs off Connor Overton (2-2) in the top of the third. Rando Moreno doubled, took third on a ground ball and scored on a wild pitch to cut the Lancaster lead to 3-1. Later in the inning, Mike Carp singled home Jared James to trim the edge to one.
An RBI single by Michael Martinez in the top of the fourth pushed the lead back to two, but Moreno again made it a one-run game with a homer down the right field line with two outs in the fourth.
The homer salvo continued as Gindl blasted his second of the game, a two-run shot in the homer fourth. Bijan Rademacher countered with a leadoff blast in the fifth.
Lancaster’s bullpen tandem of Bryan Harper and Scott Shuman shut down New Britain over the final two innings. Shuman earned his third save.
Alejandro Chacin (1-4) will start the second game against Giovanni Soto (3-1).

CARP(E) DIEM
Designated Hitter’s Grand Slam Knocks off ‘Stormers
Mike Carp belted a one-out grand slam in the top of the sixth, and it proved to be too much for the Lancaster Barnstormers to overcome as the New Britain Bees captured a 5-3 decision in the third game of a four-game series Saturday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
The loss kept the Barnstormers from winning their third straight for the first time since the end of July.
For the second consecutive game, the Barnstormers and Bees battled to a scoreless tie for a large chunk of the contest. Nate Reed (4-3) picked up his fourth strikeout of the game, punching out Darren Ford looking, to open the inning. Ryan Jackson dropped a single in front of a charging Devon Torrence in left, and Bijan Rademached followed with his second, and his team’s fourth, bunt single of the night. Jason Rogers worked out a walk to load the bases before Carp battled back from an 0-2 count to drive his fifth home run of the season over the right field tent for the 4-0 lead.
Caleb Gindl slugged his third homer of the series with one out in the sixth against Devin Burke (2-5) to begin a Lancaster comeback. In the seventh, K.C. Hobson picked up a leadoff walk, and Melvin Mercedes lofted his first Atlantic League homer to right to cut the deficit to 4-3.
The Barnstormers had a chance to get all the way back in the bottom of the eighth. With one out, Gindl nailed a double into the right field corner, barely beating Rademacher’s throw. Joe Terdoslavich sent Gindl to third with a base hit to right, then took home when Rademacher’s throw bounced away from catcher Logan Moore. Brandon Fry kept the lead, getting Anderson De La Rosa to foul out to Rogers and striking out Hobson on a 3-2 pitch to end the threat.
Rademacher drove home an insurance run in the top of the ninth, and Jim Fuller protected the lead with a perfect bottom of the ninth for his 19th save.
Lancaster will host New Britain in the finale of the four-game series on Sunday afternoon. Jared Lakind (6-6) will make the start for the Barnstormers against right-hander Rainy Lara (6-10). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 12:45.
NOTES: Gindl now tops the club with 49 extra base hits…Lancaster finished August with a 14-16 record…Mercedes’ homer was only the fifth of his eight-year pro career…Lancaster has only nine hits in the last two games…All the team’s runs have scored on homers…Gindl joined Terdoslavich in the 20-HR club…It is the eighth time that Lancaster has had two or more players slug 20 home runs in the same season with a high of four in 2010.
