ROCKERS DENY EPPLEY 100th SAVE
High Point Rallies for 4-3 Win
The High Point Rockers did not give up on Tuesday night’s game against the Lancaster Barnstormers. Nor have they given up on the first half pennant chase.
High Point rallied for two runs off closer Cody Eppley in the bottom of the night for a 4-3 victory, keeping the ‘Stormers right-hander from his 100th Atlantic League save. The win kept the third place Rockers alive in the Liberty Division race. They started the night three games behind the Long Island Ducks and two in back of the Somerset Patriots. First half play ends this weekend.
Richie Shaffer led off the ninth with a booming double to left center. Hector Gomez singled up the middle with Shaffer beating the throw from Andrew Aplin home. Gomez took second on the play then advanced to third on a wild pitch with Matthew Jones batting. Jones followed with a fly ball to deep center which cleared Aplin for a game winning single.
Lancaster scored its three runs early. Michael Martinez and Dan Gamache greeted Tyler Herron with singles. Caleb Gindl plated the first run with a double to the gap in left center. K.C. Hobson made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly.
In the second, Anderson De La Rosa singled with one out. Martinez grounded a single to the right of second baseman Tyler Ladendorf with two outs. The ball skipped past center fielder Myles Schroder, and De La Rosa came around to score.
The Barnstormers did not have a runner before the first two outs of an inning over the remainder of the night.
Lancaster starter John Anderson was reached only in the second. Quincy Latimore started the inning with a single to the hole at shortstop. One out later, Shaffer crashed a ground rule double to right center. Gomez singled to left to score one. A second run came home when Jones rapped into a 3-6 force play but no one covered first to handle a relay throw from Martinez.
Anderson worked six innings for his second straight quality start and fifth of the season. Alejandro Chacin and Scott Shuman each pitched a perfect inning of relief.
Jonathan Albaladejo (1-3) makes the start for the Barnstormers against right-hander Dominic DeMasi (2-1) on Wednesday. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:15.
NOTES: Gindl’s RBI was his 47th of the season…Hobson became the fourth member of the club to reach 40 RBI this season…Hobson extended his hitting streak to six with a double in the third, tying his longest of the season…Hobson also took sole possession of fourth on the club’s all-time RBI list with 212…Aplin picked up his first Atlantic League hit with a single in the eighth.

DeMasi Stumps ‘Stormers
Right-Hander Works into Ninth in 6-2 High Point Win
For the first five innings on Wednesday evening, Dominic DeMasi and Jonathan Albaladejo were locked into a 0-0 gem.
After the Lancaster Barnstormers nicked DeMasi for a run in the top of the sixth, the High Point Rockers went to town, piecing together a 6-2 victory over the ‘Stormers in the third game of a four-game series at BB&T Point.
DeMasi (3-1) yielded only a walk to K.C. Hobson over the first four innings before Caleb Gindl lined a single to lead off the fifth. Hobson drew his second base on balls of the night, and the runners advanced on a bunt by Andrew Aplin. DeMasi, a former Cleveland farmhand, battled back, striking out both Josh Bell and Parker Morin to end the inning.
In the sixth, the Barnstormers were a bit more successful. Zach Shank led off with a single flared down the right field line and took second on a passed ball. Darian Sandford bunted the runner to third, and Shank scored on a sacrifice fly by Michael Martinez.
Albaladejo (1-4) carried a no-hitter and near perfect game into the bottom of the sixth. Tyler Marincov led off with a ground ball to the backhand side of Bell at third. Bell knocked the ball down and picked it up quickly but could not get the throw to Hobson in time and was charged with an error. Matt Jones doubled inside the third base bag, putting runners at second and third. Albaladejo struck out Michael Russell on a pitch in the dirt, but Myles Schroder doubled down the right field line for a 2-1 lead. Tyler Ladendorf became Albaladejo’s seventh strikeout victim for the second out, but the Rockers were not done. Quincy Latimore belted a ground rule double to left center for a 3-1 lead. He scored on Viosergy Rosa’s single up the middle.
High Point added an unearned run against Christian Meister in the seventh and an earned tally off Garrett Granitz in the eighth to stretch the lead to 6-1.
Dan Gamache, Gindl and Aplin chained together three ground singles in the ninth for the second Lancaster run.
Lancaster will send Kyle Davies (4-5) to the mound on Thursday evening against right-hander Seth Simmons (5-4). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:15.
NOTES: Hobson lost a six-game hitting streak…Pedro Echemendia got the final out of the sixth and has not allowed a run in 4 1/3 innings as a Barnstormer…High Point went to 39-28 in the first half with the win.

BARNSTORMERS TRIPPED UP, 2-1
Lancaster Heads Home to Close Out Half with York
The Lancaster Barnstormers have two missions for the weekend.
One is to find a winning combination for the second half of the schedule. The other is to keep the York Revolution from completing their surge to overtake Sugar Land for a first half title.
Lancaster returns home to close out the first half of the schedule after falling, 2-1, to the High Point Rockers Thursday evening at BB&T Point.
The Barnstormers wasted another strong effort from right-hander Kyle Davies (4-6), who lost his fourth straight decision. Davies threw his eighth quality start of the season, lasting six innings while allowing six hits and the two Rockers runs. He walked no one and struck out six.
He only received support in the first inning. Devon Torrence, playing his first game in the leadoff spot, drew a five-pitch walk, stole second, took third on a fly ball by Michael Martinez and scored on Dan Gamache’s sacrifice fly to center.
Six High Point pitchers shut down the Barnstormers on five hits over the remainder of the night. The only other ‘Stormer to reach third base was in the seventh inning when Parker Morin stung a single up the middle and advanced two bases on Torrence’s bloop double down the right field line.
Davies carried a two-hit shutout into the fifth when Richie Shaffer launched his 14th homer of the season with the assistance of a strong tail wind. The tie held into the bottom of the sixth. After retiring the first two batters of the inning, Davies yielded a single to left center by Quincy Latimore. Latimore stole second and scored when Viosergy Rosa laced a double inside the first base line.
Chase Huchingson (3-1) picked up the win for the Rockers. Ryan Kelly earned his first save.
The Barnstormers host York at 7:00 on Friday evening. Jared Lakind (3-2) makes the start for the Barnstormers against right-hander Mitch Atkins (4-4). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:45.
NOTES: Alejandro Chacin had to wiggle out of a jam in the bottom of the seventh to throw his seventh consecutive scoreless outing…Scott Shuman ran his streak of consecutive batters retired to 11…Torrence’s double in the seventh was his first extra base hit of the season.

YORK TOP ‘STORMERS WITH MIDDLE INNING SURGE
Barnstormers Hit Three Homers in Loss
The Lancaster Barnstormers could not have gotten off to a more impressive start Friday evening.
Jared Lakind set the side down on eight pitches in the top of the first. Caleb Gindl and Michael Martinez greeted Mitch Atkins with back-to-back homers.
That beginning turned out not to be enough as the York Revolution rallied for a 6-4 win in the opener of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium. York, winners of 18 of its last 21 games, managed to stay alive in the Freedom Division race with the win after Sugar Land had topped New Britain, 10-5, earlier in the evening.
The Barnstormers held the early lead until the fourth. Telvin Nash led off the inning with a double into the left field corner. Lakind (3-3) retired the next two hitters, but Welington Dotel laced his fourth homer of the season onto the right field deck to tie the game.
Lancaster briefly forged ahead again in the bottom of the fourth as Gindl lined a single into right with two outs. Martinez followed with a double into the left field corner. Dotel fired a strike to the plate, but Gindl scored with a slide to the infield side of home for the 3-2 edge.
Angelys Nina singled off the wall in right, and James Skelton walked to put two runners on to open the fifth. The Barnstormers barely missed turning double plays on consecutive smashes to the corners as one run scored. Nash followed with his 21st home run of the season, an opposite field blast over the right field tents to give York a 5-3 lead.
Andrew Aplin countered with a homer in the bottom of the fifth, his first in the Atlantic League. Then, with Lancaster trailing, 5-4, going into the home seventh, the Barnstormers loaded the bases on two singles and a walk. Peter Tago (3-1) rescued the inning. The right-hander struck out Destin Hood, got Aplin to foul to third and Anderson De La Rosa to line to left, ending the threat.
After York scored an unearned run in the top of the ninth, Jameson McGrane survived a one-out single by Joe Terdoslavich in the bottom of the inning to earn his fifth save.
The clubs meet again on Saturday evening with Buddy Baumann (2-7) taking the hill against right-hander Dan Minor (4-4). Fireworks will follow the game. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 6:15.
NOTES: Lancaster was 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position in the game…Five members of the lineup had multi-hit nights as the ‘Stormers outhit York, 12-7…Matt Marksberry extended his streak of scoreless innings to 7 2/3…Pedro Echemendia has not allowed a run in 5 1/3 innings since joining the Barnstormers…Lancaster is 12-21 when scoring the first run…York leads the War of the Roses, 6-2.

BARNSTORMERS, YORK RAINED OUT
Game Rescheduled as Part of Sunday Doubleheader
Saturday night’s scheduled game between the York Revolution and Lancaster Barnstormers at Clippper Magazine Stadium was postponed due to persistent rains that began to fall after 7:00.
The two clubs had started the game, and Lancaster was leading, 3-1, after one and a half innings when the umpires summoned the grounds crew to cover the field. The game was called shortly after 8:30.
Under Atlantic League rules, the game will start from scratch as part of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, July 7, at 1:15 PM. Both games will be seven innings. Lancaster will send left-hander John Anderson (5-4) and right-hander Alejandro Chacin (1-0) to the mound. Southpaw Ian Thomas (1-0) will open game one for York. The Revolution has not committed to a starter in the nightcap.
Fans may tune into the entire doubleheader on the Barnstormers’ YouTube Channel, beginning at 1:15. The first game, at minimum, will be carried on Blue Ridge 11 as well.
NOTES: The rainout was the first at home for the Barnstormers in 2019 and the fifth for the club overall…The Freedom Division race remains in limbo as Sugar Land’s game at New Britain was also rained out, leaving the Skeeters with a magic number of one over York.

NEW RULE COSTS BARNSTORMERS
Thomas “Steals First,” Scores Tying Run
Southern Maryland’s Tony Thomas took advantage of a new Atlantic League rule, racing to first base on Alejandro Chacin’s second pitch.
The move began a cascade of events that eventually produced a 7-2 Blue Crabs victory over the Barnstormers in the third game of a weekend series at Regency Furniture Stadium.
With the Barnstormers leading, 1-0, Chacin replaced Buddy Baumann to open the bottom of the sixth. Chacin dealt a strike to Thomas, but the next offering bounced behind catcher Anderson De La Rosa. Thomas took off for first without drawing a throw. Chacin hit Charlie Valerio with a pitch, and both runners moved ahead on a bunt by Rubi Silva. Jon Griffin drew a walk, and the tying run scored on Josh McAdams’ slow chopper to short.
Lancaster failed to convert on a bases loaded, one out opportunity in the top of the seventh, and the Blue Crabs pounced. Edwin Garcia reached on Dan Gamache’s fielding error to open the bottom of the inning. Matt Marksberry (4-4) hit Joe Benson with a pitch. Dean Green battled and drilled a single into left, scoring Garcia. Benson took third on a wild throw home. Pedro Echemendia took over and hit Thomas with a pitch to load the bases. A wild pitch scored Benson with the second run of the inning. Valerio poked a sacrifice fly to right to make it 4-1. McAdams capped the scoring in the inning with a single up the middle after a lengthy at bat.
The Barnstormers were able to narrow the gap in the top of the eighth on an RBI single by Joe Terdoslavich that brought the tying run to the plate. Lancaster could get no closer, and the Blue Crabs put the game away with two runs in the bottom of the eighth keyed by Thomas’ triple to left center off Scott Shuman.
James Dykstra (2-1) got the final two outs in the top of the seventh to earn the win.
The Barnstormers send Kyle Davies (4-6) to the mound on Sunday against right-hander Brandon Cumpton (3-8). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 1:45.
NOTES: The final four innings took two hours, 37 minutes to play…The overall time of 3:47 was the longest for the Barnstormers this season…Martinez and Terdoslavich each collected two of Lancaster’s five hits…The Barnstormers have only 13 hits in the last four games and have gone without an extra base hit in three of the four…Buddy Baumann, who worked five scoreless innings, went for the 10th consecutive start without a win.

CRABS CLAW BARNSTORMERS AGAIN
‘Stormers Shut Out as Southern Maryland Sweeps
All Southern Maryland needed on Sunday afternoon was one inning.
The Blue Crabs pounced on Kyle Davies for four runs in the bottom of the first, and the runs held as host Southern Maryland completed a four-game sweep of the Lancaster Barnstormers, 4-0, at Regency Furniture Stadium in Charles County, MD.
Darian Sandford made a dazzling catch against a Kent Blackstone pop fly to left center to start the bottom of the first, but the Blue Crabs did not let that slow them down. Edwin Garcia lined a single to center, and Joe Benson roped a double off the left field wall to put runners at second and third with one out. The torrid Dean Green ripped a single to center for a 1-0 lead. Tony Thomas followed with a three-run homer to put the Crabs up by four.
Davies (4-7) settled down, eventually working six innings to keep the Barnstormers in the game. The right-hander allowed nine hits and walked one while striking out four.
Meanwhile, Lancaster’s offense continued to struggle. Right-hander Brandon Cumpton (4-8), who had allowed 94 hits in 69.2 innings entering the afternoon, checked the Barnstormers on four mere singles over the first six. Lancaster’s best chance came in the fourth. Dan Gamache led off with a single inside the right field line that drilled the first base umpire Jim Clayton on one hop. Following a liner to right by Caleb Gindl, Joe Terdoslavich walked to add a second runner. K.C. Hobson grounded to first baseman Josh McAdams, who threw too late to second to get a force out.
Cumpton took matters in his own hands, striking out Andrew Aplin and Parker Morin to end the threat.
Lancaster put together a last gasp effort in the ninth. Gindl collected his third hit of the afternoon with a line drive to right center, leading off the inning. Ryan Chaffee retired the next two, but Aplin drew a walk. That created a save opportunity for Mat Latos, and skipper Stan Cliburn made the move. Latos got ahead of Morin, but the ‘Stormers catcher smashed a grounder on the right side. McAdams made a sprawling stop and fed Latos for the final out preserving the victory for Southern Maryland. For Latos, it was the ninth save of the season.
The Barnstormers will open a four-game series against High Point on Tuesday with a doubleheader beginning at 6:00. Fans may tune into Blue Ridge 11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel at 6:00.
NOTES: The Barnstormers collected only 16 hits in the four-game series and have gone 26 1/3 innings without an extra base hit since Destin Hood homered to left in the sixth inning on Friday…Lancaster has scored only eight runs in Davies’ last five starts…Darian Sandford stole his 159th and 160th bases as a Barnstormer, placing him ninth in Atlantic League history.

TORRENCE PACES ‘STORMERS WIN
Skids End for ‘Stormers, Baumann
Devon Torrence was signed for his speed and his athleticism. Power was not necessarily part of the equation.
The former Ohio State cornerback slugged his first career home run to break a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the fourth inning helping to send the Lancaster Barnstormers to a 5-3 win over the High Point Rockers at Clipper Magazine Stadium Thursday evening.
Torrence connected off Tyler Herron (2-6) leading off the fourth inning for what proved to be the game’s decisive blow. The blast came in the Ohioan’s 114th career game and 309th at bat.
With the win, Lancaster’s first since July 7, the Barnstormers avoided tying the longest losing streak in franchise history. It also ended a personal seven-game losing streak for Buddy Baumann (3-7)
The Rockers, as they had done the entire series, jumped out early as Quincy Latimore drilled a two-run homer onto the friendly picnic deck at Clipper Magazine Stadium off Baumann in the first.
Joe Terdoslavich answered with a solo blast in the bottom of the inning, but the Rockers used two-out singles by Breland Almadova and Matthew Jones around a stolen base to rebuild the two-run lead in the top of the second.
It was Torrence’s speed that led to Lancaster’s tying runs in the bottom of the inning. He beat out a bunt single with one out and stole second. Zach Shank reached when his swinging third strike eluded Jones on a wild pitch to put runners at first and third. Darian Sandford hit a flare to shallow left which dove in front of Latimore’s sliding effort and jumped behind him for a double. Anderson De La Rosa grounded to the right side to score Shank with the tying run.
Caleb Gindl hit the night’s longest home run with one out in the fifth for an insurance marker.
Baumann lasted five innings, yielding five hits and three runs on 106 pitches. Logan Sawyer faced the minimum of six batters in the next two innings, allowing a single to Jones before inducing a 5-4-3 double play out of Cardullo. Scott Shuman worked to only three batters in the eighth as Michael Russell led off with a single flared to left but was erased on a steal attempt.
Cody Eppley ran into more friction in the ninth as Hector Gomez led off with a single to right, and Viosergy Rosa walked. Eppley rebounded on a line out to center by Myles Schroder. The right-hander fanned Almadova and got Jones on a routine fly ball to right to pick up his 13th save of the season.
Lancaster heads to Long Island to open a four-game series with a doubleheader against the Ducks on Friday at 6:00. Lancaster will send Garrett Granitz (0-1) and Jared Lakind (3-3) to the hill against Pedro Beato (0-2) and Darin Downs (1-2). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 5:45.
NOTES: Baumann’s last win came on May 14 at New Britain…Base stealers were only 3-for-6 in the game after the Barnstormers and their opponents had combined to go 27-for-28 in the first seven games out of the All-Star Break…Darian Sandford turned his first double play at second base.

BARNSTORMERS RALLY FALLS SHORT
Ducks Take 5-4 Decision
Thwarted for seven innings by the pitching of Joe Iorio and Cody Mincey and stellar defense by the Long Island Ducks, the Lancaster Barnstormers put together an impressive rally in the top of the eighth inning on Saturday evening.
They just could not get the final big hit to get over the top as Long Island held on for a 5-4 victory over the Barnstormers at Bethpage Ballpark.
Down, 5-0, entering the eighth, Lancaster got a leadoff walk from Darian Sandford, who two pitches later, stood at third base after a pair of steals. Michael Martinez drove in the run with a single through the right side. After Mincey struck out Caleb Gindl, Joe Terdoslavich rolled a base hit up the middle. Andrew Aplin lined a single to left to cut the lead to 5-2. Destin Hood lined a sharp single into center to load the bases, and K.C. Hobson singled to left to drive home two more and send the tying run into scoring position.
Ducks skipper Wally Backman strode to the mound and lifted Mincey for Rob Rogers. The right-hander dispatched Parker Morin on a fly ball to center for the second out and struck out Zach Shank looking to end the threat.
Michael Tonkin entered in the ninth. Long Island had one more web gem to make as first baseman David Washington made a sprawling catch of Sandford’s bunt to keep the league’s leading base stealer off base. Tonkin easily retired the next two for his second save.
The Ducks built the 5-0 lead early off Kyle Davies (4-8). In the second, Washington stroked a two-out single into right center to score Daniel Fields, who had doubled. The killer blow came in the third inning. With two outs and a runner at first T. J. Rivera’s grounder to the left side was scooped up by Terdoslavich to his left. The third baseman, however, was unable to line up the throw, and runners were safe at first and second. Hector Sanchez, after getting ahead in the count, slammed a three-run homer to right center for a 4-0 cushion.
Former Barnstormer Vladimir Frias doubled home the eventual decisive run in the bottom of the fourth.
Meanwhile, Lancaster bats fell victim to a string of dazzling defensive plays by the Ducks. In the third, L.J. Mazzilli made a leaping stab of a line drive by Martinez. Rey Fuentes and Ezequiel Carrera made consecutive diving catches in the outfield in the fourth. Iorio (5-1) even helped himself with a diving catch of a Shank bunt in foul territory after Morin opened the inning with a double.
Iorio worked six innings, allowing three hits and three walks. He struck out two. Davies allowed seven hits and five runs in seven innings. The right-hander walked three and struck out seven.
Lancaster concludes the series on Sunday at 5:05. John Anderson (5-5) will make the start for Lancaster against Kevin McAvoy (0-2). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 4:45.
NOTES: Sandford now has 165 career steals with the Barnstormers, moving him within one of seventh place on the Atlantic League career list…Terdoslavich has six hits in the series…Aplin is 4-for-7 in the series…Davies lost his sixth straight start…Logan Sawyer pitched a perfect eighth and now has allowed only two runs in his last 15 2/3 innings.

BARNSTORMERS BREAK THROUGH
Lancaster Raps Out 12 Hits to Beat Long Island
The Lancaster Barnstormers made the most of a weather-shortened game against the Long Island Ducks late Sunday at Bethpage Ballpark.
With permission from the Atlantic League to shorten the game to seven innings due to excessive heat, the Lancaster Barnstormers banged out a dozen hits to take an 8-4 victory over the Long Island Ducks in the series finale on Long Island.
Greg Golson and Destin Hood led the attack with three hits apiece while Andrew Aplin and Joe Terdoslavich chimed in with two each.
The game got off to a grim start for the Barnstormers, who went down 1-2-3 in the top of the first inning. Within three batters in the bottom of the first, John Anderson and the Lancaster squad found themselves down, 2-0. Ezequiel Carrera led off with a walk and scored when D’Arby Myers ripped a double inside the third base bag. Myers stole third and scored when T.J. Rivera found third base with his smash which kicked into left field for a single.
Anderson quieted things down and did not allow another hit over his four innings of work. Lancaster bounced back in the third inning. Golson started the rally with a one-out single into center field. One out later, Caleb Gindl walked. Joe Terdoslavich put the tying runs off Kevin McAvoy (0-3) on the board with a long double over Carrera’s head in center.
Hood drove a home run to left center to lead off the fourth inning. Lancaster would add another run on Anderson De La Rosa’s single to left, a wild pitch, and Golson’s second hit of the game.
McAvoy was greeted by four consecutive hits in the fifth inning to chase him from the contest. Gindl doubled and moved to third on a single to right by Terdoslavich. Aplin made it 5-2 with a ground single into right. After a wild pitch advanced the runners into scoring position, Hood singled past shortstop for a 7-2 lead, more than Rivera’s two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth could overcome.
Scott Shuman (1-1) pitched a perfect sixth inning for the win.
Lancaster is off on Monday and will open a three-game series against the Somerset Patriots on Tuesday. Nate Reed (0-1) will make the start against Somerset lefty Thomas Dorminy. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel or Blue Ridge 11, beginning at 7:00.
NOTES: Terdoslavich has hit safely in five straight (10-for-17)…Aplin was 6-for-10 in the series at Long Island…Darian Sandford stole two bases as a pinch runner for Hood in the seventh and is now the seventh leading base stealer in Atlantic League history…Hood doubled his hit total on the season…Both of his homers are on the road.

LANCASTER RALLIES PAST SOMERSET, 5-4
Patriots Errors Open Way to ‘Stormers Win
With the annual Christmas in July promotion only three days away, the Lancaster Barnstormers got some early gifts from the Somerset Patriots on Tuesday evening.
The Barnstormers were all too glad to open them and put them to use.
Lancaster took advantage of a ninth inning fielding error and a 10th inning throwing error to rally past the Somerset Patriots, 5-4, in the opener of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
With the Barnstormers trailing, 4-2, entering the bottom of the ninth, Darian Sandford’s leadoff ground ball was bobbled by second baseman Scott Kelly to the backhanded side. Michael Martinez almost tied the game on his own with a line drive off the top of the right field wall that resulted in a long single. A walk to Caleb Gindl loaded the bases against closer Jonathan Cheshire. Joe Terdoslavich was retired on a fly ball to medium left for the first out, but Andrew Aplin was able to deliver a two-run single to right center to tie the game. Aplin tried to take second on the throw to the infield and was thrown out at second, rendering Destin Hood’s fly ball to center harmless.
Scott Shuman (2-1) retired the side in order in the top of the 10th, freezing the automatic runner at second base. It took the Barnstormers one batter to decide the game against James Pugliese.
With pinch runner Devon Torrence at second, K.C. Hobson looped a single into shallow center. Torrence stopped around third. Edwin Espinal tried to make a throw behind him but fired the ball past Will Kengor, allowing the winning run to score.
Hobson gave the Barnstormers a 2-1 lead with a two-run homer to right in the bottom of the second. Lancaster failed to extend that lead after loading the bases with nobody out in the third, and the Patriots recovered to tie the game in the fourth. With one out Michael Ohlman doubled inside the third base bag. He took third when Edwin Espinal grounded out to Gindl in right. Yovan Gonzalez drove home the tying run with a single off the right field wall.
The Patriots scored the two go-ahead runs in the top of the fifth without the ball leaving the infield. Nate Reed walked Kelly, and Ramon Flores followed with a perfect bunt single down the third base line. Alejandro Chacin came in. Alfredo Rodriguez bunted with two strikes and was safe on a fielder’s choice as Chacin’s throw to third was late, filling the bases. Jimmy Paredes bounced into a 6-3 double play as Kelly carried the lead run home. Kengor hit a weak grounder to first, but Chacin dropped Hobson’s feed for an error as the fourth Somerset run scored.
Somerset will throw left-hander Thomas Dorminy (5-4) against Lancaster right-hander Jonathan Albaladejo (1-6). Fans may tune into Blue Ridge 11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 7:00. It is also Bark and the Park Night and Dollar Hot Dog Night.
NOTES: Lancaster’s relievers allowed only one hit and one walk in six innings…Six members of the bullpen were used…Terdoslavich extended his current hitting streak to six with a single in the seventh…Aplin’s two-run single in the ninth extended his streak to five…Lancaster won back-to-back games for the first time since June 30-July 1…Lancaster is 3-3 in extra inning contests.

BARNSTORMERS TAKE THIRD STRAIGHT
Albaladejo Shines in Win over Somerset
The Lancaster Barnstormers are sporting brand new “Don’t Stop Believin’” T-shirts during batting practice.
They are turning the believing into winning.
Jonathan Albaladejo allowed only three hits in seven innings, and the Barnstormers made the most of their six hits to pick up a 5-3 victory over the Somerset Patriots Wednesday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium. It was the third consecutive win for the Barnstormers, matching a season high.
Albaladejo (2-6) retired the first 10 Somerset batters of the night before issuing a walk to Alfredo Rodriguez. Will Kengor took the next pitch off the top of the tents in right for a 2-0 lead. Michael Ohlman dinged a single to left, but Albaladejo got the next nine hitters, starting with a double play.
Lancaster’s player/pitching coach worked through seven innings, his longest outing of the season. He walked one and struck out one, getting 12 batters on ground balls.
The Barnstormers were quiet for four innings against Thomas Dorminy (5-5), but K.C. Hobson shaved a run off the lead with a homer to start the bottom of the fifth.
Dorminy, who struck out eight, never got an out in the sixth. He walked Michael Martinez and Caleb Gindl consecutively to open the Lancaster uprising. Joe Terdoslavich tied the game with a single yanked into left. Dorminy was replaced by right-hander James Pugliese, and Destin Hood greeted the reliever with a two-run double to the gap in right center. Anderson De La Rosa capped the four-run inning with an RBI single grounded into left.
Matt Marksberry pitched a perfect eighth for the Barnstormers. Somerset put together singles by Ramon Flores, Ohlman and Jimmy Paredes to score a run in the top of the ninth, but Cody Eppley got Edwin Espinal to ground to third, closing out the night.
Lefty Buddy Baumann (3-7) makes the start for the Barnstormers on Thursday evening against right-hander Vince Molesky (3-0) on Harry Potter Night at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Fans may tune into Blue Ridge 11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 7:00.
NOTES: Terdoslavich has hit safely in seven straight (13-25, .520)…Marksberry has allowed five hits and one earned run while striking out 18 in his last 14 1/3 innings…Hobson has three homers and nine RBI in his last eight games…Hood has five RBI in four games…Gindl has five walks in the series…The seven-inning stint was the longest of the season for Albaladejo.

BAUMANN DEALS SOMERSET A SHUTOUT
Lancaster Wins Fourth Straight, 10-0
Buddy Baumann was brilliant, and for one, the Barnstormers gave him plenty of backing.
The lefty fired a four-hit shutout against the Somerset Patriots, pitching the Lancaster Barnstormers to a 10-0 victory on Thursday evening to complete a three-game sweep of the Pats. It was the fourth straight win for the ‘Stormers, the club’s longest winning streak of the season.
Baumann (4-7) picked up his second win in a row and fired his fourth complete game of the season, tying Southern Maryland’s Daryl Thompson for the league lead. The Missourian retired 18 of the first 19 batters he faced, allowing only a single by Will Kengor over the first six innings.
He walked Alfredo Rodriguez to open the seventh but cancelled that on a double play off Kengor’s bat. Edwin Espinal and Justin Pacchioli picked up singles in the eighth, but manager Ross Peeples stuck with Baumann for the ninth. Somerset, which never advanced a runner to third base in the game, got only a two-out double flared down the right field line by Michael Ohlman in the final frame.
Baumann, who struck out five, finished the night with 126 pitches.
The Barnstormers gave their starter ample support in the first inning alone. Caleb Gindl picked up a one-out walk on four pitches from Vince Molesky (3-1) and moved to second on the first of three hits by Joe Terdoslavich. K.C. Hobson walked with two outs to load the bases. Andrew Aplin singled home two with a liner off the right field wall. Greg Golson doubled home two more with a shot to the gap in right center.
Lancaster scored four more in the fourth, three on Terdoslavich’s 14th home run of the season to extend the lead to 8-0.
Golson, with the fourth of his hits, singled home an unearned run in the seventh. Destin Hood capped the scoring with an RBI double to right center in the eighth.
Southern Maryland comes to town to open a three-game series on Friday night. Kyle Davies (4-8) will make the start for the Barnstormers. MIDDLE INNING SURGE ENDS LANCASTER WIN STREAK
Southern Maryland Belts Way to 11-6 Victory
Kyle Davies would have preferred a better ending to a long, productive career.
The right-hander fell victim to a Southern Maryland power surge in the middle innings in his final start, as the Blue Crabs rallied for an 11-6 victory in the opener of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
It was Southern Maryland’s fifth consecutive win in the season series and ended a four-game winning streak for the Barnstormers.
After Lancaster built a 4-1 lead through the first three innings, the Blue Crabs opened their rally in the fourth. Joe Benson lifted a double off the right field wall to start the inning and, one out later, scored on a double belted into the left center field gap by Cory Vaughn. Vaughn took third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out by Charlie Valerio.
Davies (4-9) retired two of the first three batters in the top of the fifth, but Edwin Garcia was able to tie the game with a single to center, scoring Rubi Silva from second base. Benson walked, and Dean Green put the Blue Crabs in the lead to stay with an RBI single pulled to right. Benson scored on a wild pitch, Vaughn singled, and the inning ended only when Andrew Aplin made an impressive running catch into the left field corner on a deep opposite field fly ball by Valerio.
Lancaster answered with a run on a two-out RBI single by K.C. Hobson in the bottom of the fifth but were unable to score the tying run when Melvin Mercedes took a 3-2 pitch from Adam Choplick at the knees for the final out with the bases loaded.
Southern Maryland struck for five more before the first out in the sixth. Josh McAdams clubbed a two-run homer to left for an 8-5 lead. Silva chased Davies with his second double. Bryan Harper entered the game and walked two before allowing a base clearing double by Benson.
James Dykstra (3-1, 4-1), the fourth of five pitchers used by the Blue Crabs, was awarded the win after he threw 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
The Barnstormers and Blue Crabs meet in the middle game of the series on Saturday evening. Lancaster will throw Jared Lakind (3-4) against right-hander Dusten Knight (0-0). Fireworks will follow the game on Celtic Night at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Fans may tune into the game, beginning at 6:15 on the Barnstormers YouTube Channel.
NOTES: Five different Barnstormers had multi-hit games as the Barnstormers racked up 13 hits total…Joe Terdoslavich extended his hitting streak to nine games (18-for-35)…Andrew Aplin stretched his streak to seven (12-for-28) and Destin Hood to six (10-for-27)…Lancaster has scored five or more runs in five consecutive games…Darian Sandford stole two bases and is now the sixth leading base stealer in Atlantic League history with 169…K.C. Hobson became the third Barnstormer to reach 50 RBI this season with his RBI single in the fifth…He had his 20th two-hit game of the season.

ANDERSON TOPS SIMON AS BARNSTORMERS WIN
Lancaster Tops Southern Maryland, 4-1
John Anderson struck out a season-high eight, and Andrew Aplin socked a two-run homer in the first inning to lead the Lancaster Barnstormers to a 4-1 win over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Sunday afternoon.
For the Barnstormers, it was the sixth win in the last seven games and kept the club within four games of division leading York.
Anderson (6-5) yielded four hits in his 6 1/3 inning stretch with three of those coming in the seventh inning before his departure. The left-hander walked one and hit a batter to go with the eight strikeouts.
His effort beat that of Kyle Simon (1-3, 2-6) who settled down after a rocky beginning to, at one point, retire 15 consecutive Lancaster hitters.
Simon’s success came three batters too late. Caleb Gindl opened the game with a single to the base of the wall in right and took second on a bobble by Cory Vaughn. Joe Terdoslavich singled to center, sending Gindl to third. Travis Witherspoon, in his first start of the year, fumbled the pickup, allowing Gindl to score the game’s first run. Aplin followed with his third homer, a fly ball down the right field line, and the Barnstormers built the early 3-0 lead.
The right-hander got 18 of the next 20 batters before a Devon Torrence double to right in the seventh. Singles by Josh Bell, Terdoslavich and K.C. Hobson produced the insurance run in the bottom of the eighth before Simon retired Parker Morin to finish his second complete game of the season.
Southern Maryland fought back with a run in the second. Dean Green was hit by a pitch, and Vaughn walked. Anderson got Tony Thomas to ground into a force out at third and struck out Edwin Garcia. Josh McAdams won a lengthy battle with an RBI single to left center.
Anderson then took control, retiring 13 batters in succession until Green singled to right to open the seventh inning.
Pedro Echemendia took over with the bases loaded and struck out both batters he faced in the seventh. Scott Shuman allowed a one-out single to Kent Blackstone in the eighth before picking up two strikeouts as well.
Southern Maryland had a threat working in the ninth as Vaughn was hit by a pitch, and Thomas walked. Cody Eppley was able to work out of the danger on a 5-3 double play off the bat of Garcia. BARNSTORMERS RALLY, FALL IN 10
Sugar Land Scores Twice in Extra Frames
The Lancaster Barnstormers put on a furious rush to force extra innings on Tuesday evening, only to fall on Wednesday morning.
Lancaster struck for four runs in the top of the eighth and added a go-ahead run in the tenth for a 6-5 lead, but the host Sugar Land Skeeters scored twice in their half of the inning for a 7-6 victory in a game that ended at 12:49 CDT. It had been held up for two hours, 12 minutes by a heavy thunderstorm that passed over Constellation Field just after the schedule 7:05 start time.
With the Barnstormers down, 5-1, Melvin Mercedes opened the eighth with a single into left center off Josh Martin. Martin retired the next two, but Joe Terdoslavich kept the rally alive with a single up the middle. Andrew Aplin grounded a single into right to cut the lead to 5-2. Destin Hood crushed a three-run tying homer to left for the 5-5 deadlock.
Scott Shuman had to dance his way through a perilous bottom of the ninth, built on an error, a single and a walk, but he escaped with a strikeout of Denis Phipps and a deep fly ball from D.J. Peterson, sending the game to extra innings.
The Barnstormers scored their extra inning runner from second base as Zach Shank sacrificed Mercedes to third, and pinch hitter Caleb Gindl brought him home with a sacrifice fly to left.
Cody Eppley (1-4) picked up the game in the bottom of the tenth inning. Sugar Land played it safe, bunting Peterson to third. Anthony Giansanti singled past Shank to tie the game. Cody Stanley also singled up the middle, moving the winning run to second. A passed ball sent the runners to second and third, and the Barnstormers opted to fill in first with an intentional walk of Rico Noel. Wynton Bernard also spanked a single up the middle for the winning tally.
The teams exchanged single runs in the early innings, but the Skeeters broke through with three runs in the sixth. Phipps led off with a single and went to third on Juan Silverio’s double inside the third base bag. Peterson drilled a double over Darian Sandford’s head in center for a 3-1 edge ,and Albert Cordero greeted Pedro Echemendia with a double to left center for a 4-1 edge.
Zach Borenstein added a homer in the seventh for the 5-1 lead.
Nick Rumbelow (3-0) worked the top of the tenth for the win.
The Barnstormers take on the Skeeters again on Wednesday. Left-hander Buddy Baumann (4-7) makes the start for Lancaster against right-hander Troy Scribner (2-3). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 7:45 EDT.
NOTES: Aplin extended his hitting streak to 11, the third longest on the club in 2019…Lancaster is 3-4 in extra inning games…Gindl has driven home a runner from third base with fewer than two outs 19 of 22 times…Hood has four homers and 12 RBI in his last eight games…Shuman threw his seventh straight scoreless inning of relief.

BAUMANN BRILLIANT IN LOSS
Barnstormers Drop Third Straight in Texas
Buddy Baumann fired his fourth quality start of the season against the Sugar Land Skeeters. He and his ballclub have yet to win one.
D.J. Peterson produced the only runs off the left-hander with a two-run homer in the bottom of the second, and the Skeeters won their third straight, 4-2, over the Barnstormers at Constellation Field.
Peterson’s homer, his first in the Atlantic League, followed a fielding error by Zach Shank on Denis Phipps’ grounder into the hole at shortstop that started the home second.
Otherwise, Baumann was fabulous. The Missourian allowed only three hits over seven innings while walking two and striking out seven. He is 0-3 in his four starts against Sugar Land but has a 2.00 ERA, yielding only six earned runs in 27 innings of work.
Sugar Land starter Troy Scribner also went seven innings, throwing shutout baseball. Scribner (3-3) issued two walks and struck out nine while surrendering only four hits. Lancaster never advanced a runner to third base during the Connecticut native’s stay in the game.
The Barnstormers almost got Baumann off the hook in the top of the eighth against left-hander Daniel Schlereth. Caleb Gindl laid down a bunt single. Joe Terdoslavich and Andrew Aplin followed with walks to load the bases. Destin Hood, flied out to deep left center to score Gindl and send Terdoslavich to third. Terdoslavich, battling slick footing, slipped and fell, trying to get back on a pickoff throw by Albert Cordero, largely ending the threat.
Sugar Land picked up its final two runs in the bottom of the eighth on a two-out single by Phipps. Parker Morin slammed a homer to right off Matt West in the top of the ninth. West walked Shank but retired Devon Torrence and Gindl to end the night for his fourth save.
Jared Lakind (4-4) makes the start for the Barnstormers on Thursday night against lefty Matt Purke (3-4). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 7:45 EDT.
NOTES: Aplin picked up a double in the sixth inning on a fly ball lost by right fielder Zach Borenstein…It extended Aplin’s hitting streak to 12, one shy of the club high for the season…Baumann’s effort was his ninth quality start overall…He has 92 strikeouts in 101 innings.
