BARNSTORMERS DRUB SOUTHERN MARYLAND

Season High Reached in 14-4 Win

Until the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs went to a position player to pitch, they could not seem to retire the Lancaster Barnstormers on Saturday evening.

Lancaster used 11 hits and seven walks issued by the first two pitchers to build a 13-2 lead en route to a 14-4 victory over Southern Maryland Saturday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Play was halted at the seventh inning stretch due to an approaching heavy thunderstorm.

Joe Terdoslavich went 3-for-3 with three RBI in the onslaught while Josh Bell added three singles, and K.C. Hobson went 2-for-3 with a homer and five RBI. Lancaster sent 30 men to the plate over 3 2/3 innings against newcomer Brett Lee (0-1) and reliever Evan De Luca, scoring in each of the first four innings.

Josh McAdams, an outfielder and corner infielder, retired seven of the eight batters he faced, only allowing the Hobson homer leading off the fifth.

The beneficiary of the attack was John Anderson, who lasted the first six innings, allowing six hits and four runs. Most of the Southern Maryland offense came as the result of two home runs by first baseman Jose Julio-Ruiz.

Doubles by Caleb Gindl and Terdoslavich produced Lancaster’s first run. Bell reached on an infield single, and Hobson drove home the second run on a force play grounder to first.

The Barnstormers piled on six more runs, two on a double by Anderson De La Rosa, in the second and four in the third.

Lancaster will host Southern Maryland in the rubber game of the three-game series Sunday afternoon at 1:00. Kyle Davies (2-1) will make the start for the Barnstormers against right-hander Daryl Thompson (2-3). Fans may tune into Blue Ridge 11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 1:00.

NOTES: The game was held up in the bottom of the third when home plate umpire Tim Detwiler was forced to leave after a foul tip from Devon Torrence knocked his mask off…Torrence also was knocked down and stunned after a collision with Julio-Ruiz at first on the same at bat…Terdoslavich would have driven home a run in each of the first four innings, a baseball rarity, except that manager Ross Peeples held Torrence at third base on a single in the fourth…Hobson took sole possession of second place on the Barnstormers career home run list with his 62^nd…Terdoslavich is now batting .400 at home.

BARNSTORMERS WIN IN RECORD TIME

Davies Outduels Thompson in 3-1 Lancaster Victory

Sunday afternoon’s between the Lancaster Barnstormers and Southern Maryland Blue Crabs was a throwback to an earlier era.

Right-handers Kyle Davies and Daryl Thompson both worked through the eighth inning. Defense was superb. The game exceeded all pace of play expectations.

In the end, Dan Gamache tagged a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning lifting Davies and the Barnstormers to a 3-1 victory over the Blue Crabs. It was the fastest nine-inning game in Clipper Magazine Stadium history, lasting a record one hour, 59 minutes.

Davies (3-1) escaped trouble in the first inning, then yielded the only Southern Maryland run in the second. Craig Maddox led off with a double into the left field corner, took third on an Edwin Garcia fly out to center and scored on a hard ground ball to second by Tony Thomas. Mike Falsetti followed with a single before Davies went on a streak of retiring 17 consecutive Blue Crabs hitters.

The right-hander finished eight innings, allowing only four hits and a walk. He struck out four in tossing his fifth consecutive quality start.

Thompson (2-4) was also highly effective. He allowed a leadoff homer to K.C. Hobson in the second but only had to pitch with one runner in scoring position through the seventh inning.

In the eighth, Darian Sandford led off with a ground single into right. Thompson handled a Michael Martinez bunt to the first base side of the mound and forced Sandford at second, but Gamache broke the deadlock with his fourth homer of the year, a fly ball onto the deck in right field.

Thompson threw his second complete game of the year, yielding seven hits and a walk while fanning five.

Cody Eppley took over for Lancaster in the top of the ninth. Pinch hitter Charlie Valerio kept the game alive with a two-out single into right before Eppley retired Maddox on a slow grounder to second for his seventh save.

The Barnstormers are back in action on Tuesday evening, hosting the Sugar Land Skeeters at 7:00. Fans may tune into Blue Ridge 11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at the top of the hour. Jared Lakind (0-1) will be on the hill for Lancaster.

Lancaster Upends Sugar Land, 8-7

On a night where long extra base hits were abundant, a quirky bloop hit down the left field line decided the contest.

Joe Terdoslavich broke a 7-7 tie when his pop up behind third base scored Michael Martinez with the winning run as Lancaster captured the opener of a three-game series, 8-7, over the Sugar Land Skeeters.

The win gave the Barnstormers their first three-game victory streak of the season.

Trailing, 7-6, heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, the Barnstormers picked up a leadoff single from Zach Shank. Darian Sandford bunted the tying run to second, and Martinez scorched Lancaster’s fifth double of the night inside the first base bag to tie the game. A wild pitch from Matt West (1-1) sent Martinez to third. Dan Gamache struck out for the second out, giving Sugar Land manager a choice – face Caleb Gindl or Terdoslavich.

He chose the latter and brought All-Star closer Felipe Paulino out of the bullpen for the matchup. Terdoslavich lifted the first pitch over the left side. Third baseman Juan Silverio lost the ball and headed well into foul territory. Shortstop Ryan Jackson tried to save it and came up a foot short as Martinez raced home with the decisive run.

Sugar Land jumped ahead, 5-1, with a huge fourth inning. Jason Martinson led off with a homer to tie the game at 1-1. Following a single to center by Chris Colabello and a bunt hit by Willy Taveras, Cody Stanley drilled a two-run double to right center. Denis Phipps then took Lancaster starter Jared Lakind beyond the left field walkway for a two-run homer and a 5-1 lead.

Shank singled home a run in the bottom of the fourth to bring the Barnstormers within two. In the fifth, Gindl slammed a two-run homer to right center to trim the lead to 5-4. Josh Bell singled with two outs and scored the tying run off Roy Merritt on a double to the left center alley by K.C. Hobson.

Anthony Giansanti’s RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Martinson put the Skeeters back into the lead before Alejandro Chacin, worked 2 1/3 shutout innings, fanning four.

Terdoslavich made it 7-6 with an RBI double in the seventh.

Matt Marksberry (2-1) retired the final batter in the top of the eighth to earn the win. Cody Eppley survived a two-out single by Colabello in the top of the ninth to earn his eighth save.

The two teams meet again on Wednesday evening. Lancaster will send Buddy Baumann (2-3) to the hill against right-hander Dallas Beeler (2-2). Fans may tune into Blue Ridge 11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel beginning at 7:00.

NOTES: Martinez’ double extended his hitting streak to eight…Hobson has hit safely in nine of the last 10 games (14-38, .368)and has an extra base hit in eight of those games…Terdoslavich is batting .393 at home…Eppley’s save was his 96^th in the Atlantic League…Lancaster’s top four in RBI (Gindl, Terdoslavich, Gamache, Hobson) have totaled 100 RBI in 34 games…Phipps has three homers in four games against Lancaster this season.

Trio of Homers, Gamache Doubles Lead Lancaster

Four batters into Thursday night’s game at Clipper Magazine Stadium, it looked like it could be a long night for John Anderson and the Lancaster Barnstormers.

Instead, it was the only down moment for the home club.

A trio of home runs by the middle of the order and a four-hit night by Dan Gamache boosted the Barnstormers and Anderson to a 13- 3 victory over the Sugar Land Skeeters in the rubber game of a three-game series.

Anderson (4-1) walked two and allowed a three-run homer by Denis Phipps as the Skeeters jumped out to the 3-0 lead. The left-hander, whose only loss of the season came at Sugar Land’s hands on May 8, settled down and allowed only three singles and a walk over the remainder of his six-inning stint.

Lancaster came back with a vengeance against Lucas Irvine (1-2). With one out in the home first, Gamache drilled a double into right center. Caleb Gindl walked to fill in first. Then, came the turning point of the game. Joe Terdoslavich rapped a ground ball to first baseman Chris Colabello. Sugar Land got the force at second on Gindl, but the relay throw back to first was mishandled by Irvine as a run scored. K.C. Hobson and Josh Bell followed with booming homers to right as Lancaster suddenly led, 4-3.

A Gindl sac fly stretched the lead to 5-3 in the second, and the Barnstormers really went to town in the third. With two outs, Greg Golson doubled to right. Anderson De La Rosa singled him home and took second on the throw to the plate. Darian Sandford lined a single off Irvine’s leg, and Michael Martinez, after a steal of second, chased the starter with a two-run single into center. Mark Lowe entered play and yielded singles to Gamache and Gindl before Terdoslavich slammed a three-run homer off the right field tents for the seventh straight hit and a 12-3 lead.

Gamache’s fourth hit, an RBI double to right center alley, came in the fifth and finished the night’s scoring.

Lancaster heads to New Britain to start a grueling 17-day stretch that will feature 19 games and trips to Texas and North Carolina. It all begins on Friday evening in New Britain as the Barnstormers send Kyle Davies (3-1) against New Britain lefty Christian Friedrich (2-1). SIXTH INNING OUTBURST DROPS ‘STORMERS

New Britain Captures Series Opener, 5-2

Jared James snapped a 2-2 tie with a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth, sending the New Britain Bees to a 5-2 victory over the Lancaster Barnstormers Friday evening at New Britain Stadium.

The loss came in the opener of a seven-game road swing for the Barnstormers, who dropped 8 ½ games behind Sugar Land in the Freedom Division.

Kyle Davies (3-2) was locked in the 2-2 dead heat going into the bottom of the sixth. He retired Alejandro De Aza on a dribbler to the third base side of the mound before falling on hard times. Jason Rogers singled up the middle. Bijan Rademacher lined out to deep right center for the second out, but Jonathan Galvez kept the inning alive with a double off the left field wall. That set up James, who hooked a 3-2 pitch from Davies into right field for the deciding blow.

Davies, unable to extend his streak of quality starts to six, surrendered nine hits and four runs in seven innings. He walked one and struck out four.

The Bees added an insurance run in the eighth on Deibinson Romero’s RBI double, the fifth two-base hit of the night for New Britain, to the alley in left center off Matt Marksberry.

Lancaster opened the scoring in the first when Dan Gamache tripled to the warning track in left and came home on a wild pitch. Alexi Amarista tied the game with an RBI double in the bottom of the third, but the ‘Stormers regained control as Joe Terdoslavlich clubbed his seventh homer of the year over the boards in left.

The lead was short-lived. Rademacher tied the game with his own blast in the bottom of the inning.

Christian Friedrich (3-1) carried the lead through the seventh inning, allowing six hits and two runs total. Jim Fuller worked the eighth and started the ninth, giving up a leadoff single to K.C. Hobson there. Jose Rosario took care of the final three outs, two on strikes, for his third save.

The Barnstormers send Jared Lakind (0-1) to the hill on Saturday evening against right-hander Cory Riordan (3-3). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:15.

NOTES: Michael Martinez was 2-for-4, extending his hitting streak to 11 games…Gamache is 11-for-17 in his last four games…The Terdoslavich homer was his first on the road and Lancaster’s first right-handed homer hit to left field on the year…Overall, it was only the team’s fourth on the road in 14 games…Other than the two runners that scored, the Barnstormers did not get another to third base.

LAKIND COLLECTS FIRST WIN AS STARTER

Barnstormers Hold Off New Britain, 9-6

Short rest proved to be a plus for left-hander Jared Lakind.

The Lancaster starter, pitching after only three days off, collected his first career win as a starting pitcher on Saturday evening as the Barnstormers defeated the host New Britain Bees, 9-6, at New Britain Stadium.

Lakind (1-1) allowed six hits and three runs to the hard hitting Bees while walking three and striking out four.

His Lancaster mates made it easier for him in the early innings as the ‘Stormers drilled Cory Riordan for seven runs in the first four frames.

Dan Gamache slammed a double off the right field fence with one out in the first and was chased home as Caleb Gindl tripled in the same direction. Gindl scored on a single by Joe Terdoslavich as Lancaster grabbed a 2-0 lead.

In the second, Zach Shank reached when Jonathan Galvez dropped his one-out liner to first. Darian Sandford lined a single to right. Both runners scored when Michael Martinez plugged the right-center alley with a double. He, in turn, scored when Gamache crashed another double off the 16’ wall at New Britain Stadium.

Gindl keyed a two-run fourth with a double to left center which plated Martinez. Terdoslavich blooped a hit to left center for a 7-1 lead.

Lakind, who had allowed only a two-out solo homer to Ozzy Martinez in the third, issued four-pitch walks to Jason Rogers and Deibinson Romero around a pair of outs in the home fourth. Catcher Logan Moore made him pay the price with a double over Gindl’s head in right to cut the lead to 7-3.

The Barnstormers starter lasted six innings, yielding five hits and three runs while walking three and striking out four.

Lancaster struck for a pair of runs in the seventh, both coming with two outs. Anderson De La Rosa pummeled his second home run of the season. Shank reached on another error and scored following singles by Sandford and Martinez.

Those runs kept the game from getting scary. Galvez reached Andury Acevedo for a two-run homer in the eighth. Lancaster went to Cody Eppley in a non-save situation in the bottom of the ninth. Intent on throwing strikes, Eppley got two lineouts before yielding three straight base hits and a run. He retired Taylor Motter on a harmless fly ball to left center, closing out the night.

The Bees host the Barnstormers in the rubber game of the three-game series on Sunday at 1:35. Lancaster will use Kelvin Vasquez as a spot starter against Jed Bradley (2-0). Fans may tune into the Banstormers youTube Channel, starting at 1:15.

New Britain Rallies Past ‘Stormers, 12-11

Jason Rogers delivered the knockout blow in a heavyweight fight on Sunday afternoon.

The New Britain first baseman slammed a home run to left center field with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to send the Bees to a 12-11 victory over the visiting Lancaster Barnstormers at New Britain Stadium.

Rogers connected with two outs and the bases empty off Bryan Harper (0-3), the fifth Lancaster pitcher of the afternoon. None escaped the fury of the New Britain offense which rallied from a 10-4 deficit.

It appeared that the Barnstormers had pulled away with a a five-run sixth inning. Doubles by Zach Shank and Brian Mayer combined to give Lancaster a 6-4 lead. Devon Torrence walked, and Darian Sandford punched a two-run double inside the bag at first and took third on a late throw home. A wild pitch scored Sandford with the fourth run of the inning. Lancaster reloaded on a pair of walks, and K.C. Hobson singled through the right side for the 10-4 lead.

Taylor Motter singled home a pair of runs off Alejandro Chacin in the bottom of the sixth to trim the lead to 10-6, but it was the seventh that proved toxic to the Lancaster staff.

Matt Marksberry struck out Alexi Amarista to start the inning, but Ozzie Martinez began a string of four straight hits that chased the lefty from the game. Garrett Granitz took over, and Jonathan Galvez singled to right center, cutting the Lancaster lead to 10-9. With runners at the corners, Bijan Rademacher stroked a ground ball to second baseman Dan Gamache who had it go through the legs for an error as the tying run scored. Motter singled into center to drive home his fourth run of the afternoon and give the Bees an 11-10 lead.

Sandford walked with one out in the eighth, went to second on Gamache’s single to left and scored on a Joe Terdoslavich sac fly off Jim Fuller (2-1).

Jose Rosario walked Josh Bell to lead off the ninth, but allowed nothing else to earn his second save of the weekend and fourth of the year.

The Barnstormers open a four-game series against Sugar Land on Monday evening. Buddy Baumann (2-4) will get the nod for Lancaster against right-hander Dallas Beeler (3-2). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel at 7:45 EDT.

PHIPPS HOMER UNDOES ‘STORMERS LEAD

Lancaster Falls, 6-5, in Sugar Land

Denis Phipps continues to haunt the Lancaster Barnstormers. Even when he is not in the lineup.

The Sugar Land Skeeters’ outfielder/DH slammed a pinch hit three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning, leading his club to a come-from-behind, 6-5 victory over the ‘Stormers Monday evening at Constellation Field.

It was the fifth homer for Phipps in seven meetings against Lancaster this season.

The Barnstormers took a 5-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh. Manager Ross Peeples stuck with starter Buddy Baumann. Cody Stanley started the inning with a fly ball to shallow right that eluded the diving Greg Golson for a double. Ryan Jackson doubled into the right field corner to slice the Lancaster lead to 5-2. Jackson later scored on a Jason Martinson sac fly.

Peeples rode Baumann as long as he could, for 125 pitches over seven innings, and had to go to his bullpen for the eighth.

Andury Acevedo walked Chris Colabello on four pitches with one out. Zach Borenstein lined out to left for the second out, but O’Koyea Dickson kept the inning alive with a single into right. Peeples went to lefty Matt Marksberry (2-2) to face Stanley, but Incaviglia brought on Phipps to pinch hit. The slugger connected with Marksberry’s 1-1 offering for the decisive blow.

Felipe Paulino allowed only a two-out walk to Josh Bell in the top of the ninth to earn his 13^th save.

Beeler and Baumann had pitched to a 1-1 tie through six, but the Barnstormers were able to reach right-handed reliever Kevin Comer for four runs in the top of the seventh. With one out, Michael Martinez singled to left center and scored on the second double of the night for Dan Gamache, who took third on the throw home. Greg Golson looped a single to left center to score Gamache. Joe Terdoslavich added a single off Comer, and Josh Bell reached Jean Machi for the fourth hit of the inning to load the bases.

Anderson De La Rosa singled home two more for the 5-1 lead.

Lucas Irvine (2-2) recorded the win for Sugar Land.

Sugar Land Extends Lead to 9 ½

The Lancaster Barnstormers had one of THOSE innings.

Five singles, four of which were ground balls, a pair of walks and two errors led to a seven-run Sugar Land second as the Skeeters coasted to an 8-4 victory over the ‘Stormers Tuesday evening at Constellation Field.

With the Barnstormers up, 1-0, Chris Colabello opened the home second with a ground ball up the middle, just out of the reach of starter John Anderson (4-2). Denis Phipps rolled a single into left, and O’Koyea Dickson loaded the bases with the inning’s one line drive, a single to left. Anderson walked Zach Borenstein to push home the tying run. Lancaster had a chance to limit the damage as Ryan Jackson rolled a grounder to shortstop Michael Martinez. In an attempt to start a double play, Martinez fired wide of second baseman Dan Gamache with the ball rolling into foul territory. Two runs scored on that play with remaining runners at second and third.

A fourth run crossed on Cody Stanley’s sacrifice fly to center. Jason Martinson drew the second walk of the inning before Anthony Giansanti singled up the middle for a 5-1 lead. One out later, Colabello capped the surge with his second ground single over second base of the inning, bringing home two more.

Lancaster could only notch runs on at a time. Martinez tripled, and Gamache followed with a single in the fifth to cut the lead to 7-2. Joe Terdoslavich homered in the eighth, again bringing Lancaster to within five.

In the ninth, the Barnstormers created some drama. Darian Sandford worked out a nine-pitch walk against Jean Machi. Martinez followed with a single that chased Sandford to third. A run scored on a fiedler’s choice grounder by Gamache. Caleb Gindl grounded a single through the hole on the right side to move the tying run into the on deck circle.

Terdoslavich, who had been perfect on the night, drilled a liner the other way, right into the waiting glove of third baseman Juan Silverio. He doubled Gamache off second to end any chances of the Barnstormers coming back in the game, and possibly the half as the Skeeters stretched their lead to 9 ½ games and clinched the tiebreaker.

Lancaster sends Kyle Davies (3-2) to the mound for a Wednesday matinee game against the Skeeters. Sugar Land will counter with right-hander Troy Scribner (1-0). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel beginning at 11:55 EDT.

NOTES: Gamache extended his hitting streak to eight but failed to pick up an extra base hit or multiple hits for the first time in that streak…Lancaster was guilty of a season-high four errors…Martinez hit safely for the 14^th straight start…Sandford moved to within two of the league stolen base lead with a swipe in the top of the second.

Lancaster Takes Wednesday Matinee, 12-5

Sugar Land manager Pete Incaviglia entered Wednesday’s game against the Lancaster Barnstormers short on relievers.

His one guy, Lucas Irvine, could not throw strikes.

As a result, the ‘Stormers walked nine times and scored as many runs over the final three innings, marching their way to a 12-5 victory over the Sugar Land Skeeters at Constellation Field.

The nine walks were the most ever allowed by a Barnstormers opponent in a single game.

Both starters were much sharper than their replacements. Lancaster’s Kyle Davies (4-2) worked seven innings, yielding five hits, all doubles. The right-hander walked one and struck out seven on the day to toss his sixth quality start of the year. He was only nicked for a run when Jared Mitchell and Anthony Giansanti teamed up with back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the third.

Lancaster only solved Sugar Land starter Troy Scribner (1-1) in the fourth inning. With one out, Caleb Gindl rolled a single into left. Joe Terdoslavich yanked a double down the right field line that sent Gindl to third. Scribner retired K.C. Hobson on a shallow fly to center. Josh Bell walked to fill the bases, and Anderson De La Rosa put Lancaster into the lead with a ground single through the hole on the left side. Greg Golson punched a single into center to score Bell with the inning’s third run.

Irvine took over in the seventh and yielded singles to two of the first three batters, Zach Shank and Dan Gamache. He proceeded to walk the next five hitters, with a wild pitch allowing Shank to score and three runs being forced across. Shank singled home two more with a soft liner into right.

Three more walks and Golson’s third single of the day combined with an error to produce the final three Lancaster runs in the ninth.

Sugar Land gave its crowd of youngsters some excitement in the bottom of the eighth as Zach Borenstein launched a three-run homer with two outs, cutting the lead to 9-4.

Lancaster and Sugar Land wrap up the series on Thursday evening at 7:05 CDT. Jared Lakind, a Houston-area native will make the start for the Barnstormers against lefty Matt Purke, who will make a spot start. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 7:45 EDT.

Barnstormers Capture Split with 8-2 Victory in Texas

Jared Lakind had the opportunity to start for the first time as a professional near his home in the suburbs of Houston, Texas.

The left-hander sparkled in front of friends and family.

Lakind (2-1) worked eight innings of three-hit baseball on Thursday evening, pitching the Lancaster Barnstormers to an 8-2 victory over the host Sugar Land Skeeters at Constellation Field.

The win gained the Barnstormers a split of the four-game series and moved Lancaster back to within 7 ½ games of the division-leading Skeeters.

It did not look like it would be Lakind’s night at the outset. The converted first baseman walked leadoff batter Jason Martinson on four pitches and yielded a double into the left field corner by Anthony Giansanti. A ground out by Juan Silverio brought the first run home, but Lakind settled down, retiring 11 of the next 12 Sugar Land batters.

The Barnstormers grabbed the lead in the top of the fourth. Caleb Gindl picked up a leadoff walk, took second on a wild pitch and scored on a K.C. Hobson double down the left field line. With two outs, Anderson De La Rosa slugged his second homer of the seven-game trip and third of the season, giving Lancaster a 3-1 edge.

In the fifth, the first six Barnstormers reached base to score four more runs off Matt Purke (2-1). Darian Sandford, moved back into the leadoff role, beat out a bunt single pushed to the right side. He went to second on a bad pickoff throw. Dan Gamache walked, and Michael Martinez singled home a run for a 4-1 lead. A throwing error by left fielder O’Koyea Dickson enabled both remaining runners to advance a base. Gindl brought them both home with a double to the gap in left center. He scored the fourth run of the inning on a sharp single to left by Joe Terdoslavich. Hobson also singled, but the Barnstormers could produce no more.

Lakind struggled at the outset of the home fifth, walking Zach Borenstein and yielding singles to Ryan Jackson and Cody Stanley to load the bases. He rallied by striking out Martinson. Giansanti delivered one run with a sac fly, and Silverio lined to left to close the inning.

Only one more runner reached base against Lakind and did so on an error. The Texan finished his night walking three and striking out four while turning his third straight quality start on the road.

Lancaster hosts York on Friday evening at 7:00. Kelvin Vasquez (0-0) will take the mound against Revs right-hander Mitch Atkins (1-4). Fireworks will follow the game. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:45.

Revs Use 19 Hits, 12 Walks in 12-3 Win

Only one inning went by on Friday evening without at least three York batters reaching base.

That inning produced a two-run homer.

Overall, 33 Revs found their way on board in a 12-3 rout of the Lancaster Barnstormers Friday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

It all started in the first when Kelvin Vasquez (0-1) walked three batters and allowed a single to Carlos Franco with a run scoring. Two more crossed the plate in the top of the second.

Still, the Barnstormers were allowed to lurk as the Revs left 11 runners on base in the first four innings.

The pressure continued, though as the Revs struck for at least one run in each of the remaining five innings, never more than two at a time.

By the time the night ended, York had sent 58 men to the plate, racked up 20 hits and 12 walks. Carlos Franco reached base on all seven plate appearances with five singles and two walks. Alexi Casilla accumulated four hits and a walk while James Skelton had three extra-base hits. Nineteen runners were stranded.

Almost lost in the steady offense was a stellar performance by York right-hander Mitch Atkins (2-4). He yielded four hits and one walk over seven innings of work. The Barnstormers finally scored in the seventh on a double by Caleb Gindl, single by Joe Terdoslavich and ground out by K.C. Hobson.

Two more Lancaster runs scored off reliever Peter Tago in the eighth.

The same two clubs meet for a day-night doubleheader on Saturday. Lancaster will send left-hander Buddy Baumann (2-4) to the hill against lefty Ian Thomas (1-0). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 12:45.

In game two, right-hander Phil Walby (0-0) throws for York. The Barnstormers have not committed. Fireworks will follow. The YouTube broadcast will begin at 6:45.

NOTES: Michael Martinez has hit safely in 16 of 17…Dan Gamache lost a 10-game hitting streak…The 12 walks allowed was a season high.

York Captures Nightcap, 6-4

Just as in the day game, the Lancaster Barnstormers had a chance in the bottom of the seventh. They did not take advantage of the opportunity.

The Barnstormers loaded the bases with nobody out, trailing by three, but could only manage to score one run on a bases load walk, falling, 6-4, in the second game of a doubleheader. York won the daytime opener, 4-3.

Right-hander Pat Young walked two and hit a batter to fill the bags in the seventh. York manager Mark Mason switched to Josh Judy. The ex-big leaguer struck out Greg Golson on three pitches. Pinch hitter Josh Bell popped to third for the second out. Judy walked Darian Sandford to force home one run, cutting the lead, but Michael Martinez grounded to first ending the threat.

York jumped out to a 5-0 lead off Matt Marksberry (2-3). With two outs and nobody aboard, Telvin Nash picked up a walk. Carlos Franco singled into right, bringing up Welington Dotel. The York left fielder crushed a three-run homer to left center. J.P. Sportman cracked a double to the left center field alley and stole third. Angelys Nina made it 4-0 with a single into right. Marksberry loaded the bases on a walk and hit batter. A wild pitch made it 5-0.

Martinez countered with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning, and Lancaster cut the lead to 6-3 in the third. Golson and Sandford singled. Martinez drove home one with a bad hop double, and a second came home on a Dan Gamache sacrifice fly.

Jameson McGrane (2-0) struck out five in two innings of relief to earn the win.

The Barnstormers and York square off for the series finale on Sunday afternoon at 1:00. Lancaster will send John Anderson (4-2) to the hill against right-hander Dan Minor (3-4). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel at 12:45.

FOUR-DOUBLE SIXTH LEADS YORK TO SWEEP

Barnstormers Drop Fourth Straight, 7-2

The York Revolution strung together four doubles in the top of the sixth inning to pull away from the Lancaster Barnstormers on Sunday afternoon, completing a four-game sweep, 7-2.

With the Revs already up, 3-1, Telvin Nash greeted John Anderson (4-3) with a double to the gap in right center. Carlos Franco ripped another two-base hit into the right field corner scoring one. Isaias Tejeda doubled to left for a 5-1 lead. After Welington Dotel grounded to short for the first out of the inning, J.P. Sportman drove a ball just out of the grasp of left fielder Zach Shank to build the 6-1 lead.

York took its initial lead in the top of the third. Angelys Nina doubled into right center to lead off the inning. He held his ground with two outs before Melky Mesa singled into center. Nina scored easily, but first baseman K.C. Hobson cut the throw off and caught Mesa in a rundown to end inning.

The Barnstormers were able to counter immediately. With one out, Zach Shank singled into center. He swiped his second base of the season, took third on a throwing error by catcher Isaias Tejeda and scored on a single by Darian Sandford off the glove of pitcher Dan Minor (4-4).

York went ahead in the fifth. With one out, Sportman poked a broken bat single into right. Anderson, on a light pickoff throw to first, was charged with a balk. Following a walk to Nina, Sportman stole third. Ryan Dent broke the tie with a lined single into left field. Nina took third on the play and scored when Alvaro Rondon grounded into a 3-6 force out.

Michael Martinez and Sportman exchanged home runs later in the game.

Lancaster makes its first ever trip to High Point on Tuesday, opening a three-game series against the Rockers. Right-hander Kyle Davies (4-2) will make the start for the ‘Stormers. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel at 6:15.

CARDULLO HOMERS UPEND ‘STORMERS

Lancaster Drops Fifth Straight, 4-1

Stephen Cardullo blasted a pair of home runs on Tuesday evening as the High Point Rockers dropped the travel-weary Lancaster Barnstormers, 4-1, in the opener of a three-game series at the newly-opened BB&T Point.

The loss was Lancaster’s fifth straight, a new season high.

Cardullo took the third pitch of the game from Kyle Davies (4-3) over the wall in left center field for a quick, 1-0 lead. The Rockers’ first baseman again took Davies in the same direction for a two-run blast in the bottom of the seventh.

High Point’s other run came in the fourth. Hector Gomez led off with a double inside the third base bag and came home on a single to center by Richie Shaffer.

Davies worked seven innings, the fifth straight game he has worked at least that far. He yielded nine hits and all four runs, walking just one and striking out two.

He was outdueled by High Point’s Edwin Carl (1-0), a one-time Barnstormer of short duration. The right-hander escaped a first inning jam on a Dan Gamache double and Caleb Gindl single. Following a leadoff walk to K.C. Hobson in the second, Carl retired 10 batters in a row before Anderson De La Rosa broke the string with a single to left in the fifth.

Michael Martinez homered for the third straight game, putting Lancaster on the board in the sixth and cutting the High Point lead to one. With two outs that same inning, Gindl doubled to center, chasing Carl. Reliever Ashur Tolliver walked Joe Terdoslavich and went to a 3-1 count on Hobson before getting a ground out to end the inning.

Lancaster did not put another runner on base against the High Point bullpen. Trevor Frank, the third reliever used, recorded his 11^th save.

The Barnstormers take on the Rockers at 11:00 AM on Wednesday. Lefty Jared Lakind (2-1) will lock horns with his 2018 ‘Stormers bullpen mate, Stephen Johnson (3-3). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel at 11:00.

CARDULLO BLASTS HIGH POINT TO SWEEP

High Point First Baseman Homers Twice as ‘Stormers Lose, 8-2

Stephen Cardullo capped an impressive series in mighty fashion.

The High Point Rockers infielder belted a grand slam, his second homer of the night and fifth of the series, to ice an 8-2 victory over the Lancaster Barnstormers at BB&T Point.

For the Barnstormers, it was the club’s seventh consecutive loss.

Cardullo led off the game with a homer off Buddy Baumann (2-6), the second time he accomplished the feat in the series. The Barnstormers tied the game in the top of the third as Joe Van Meter (4-3) had his only bout of wildness for the night, walking both Michael Martinez and Dan Gamache. A passed ball sent the runners to second and third. Caleb Gindl picked up one run on an infield out to tie the game, but the Barnstormers left Gamache at third as the inning ended.

Immediately, High Point jumped back into the lead. With one out in the home third, Cardullo dropped a double down the right field line as Gindl was temporarily blinded by the sun. Myles Schroder followed with a two-run homer to left.

Anderson De La Rosa belted a solo homer down the left field line in the top of the fourth, but singles by Hector Gomez and Richie Shaffer extended the lead back to two in the bottom of the inning.

That is where it stayed until the eighth. The ‘Stormers had their chance as Schroder dropped Gamache’s deep fly to center for a two-base error, and Gindl reached on an infield single. Left Ashur Tolliver struck out the next three, freezing the tying runs on base.

Christian Meister walked the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the eighth. He had Cardullo, 0-2, before the former Colorado Rockie unloaded his grand slam off the fencing above the 8-foot home run wall in left center.

The Barnstormers open a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark on Long Island Friday evening at 6:00. Lefty John Anderson will square off against right-hander Joe Iorio in the opener. Neither manager has committed to a second game starter.

BARNSTORMERS START FAST, BUT LOSE, 4-3

Ten Hits Not Enough in Loss

The Lancaster Barnstormers raced out to a 3-0 lead as seven of their first 11 batters rapped out base hits off left-hander Jake Fisher on Saturday evening.

However, the road-weary Barnstormers’ attack faded, and Long Island bounced back for a 4-3 win in the third game of a four-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

It was a great beginning for the Barnstormers off Jake Fisher (4-6). Darian Sandford blooped the first of his four singles into shallow right. Michael Martinez launched a drive down the right field line that sent Sandford to third, but Kirk Nieuwenhuis was able to cut the ball off and fire to second to nab Martinez. Dan Gamache doubled over Nieuwenhuis’ head to drive home the first run. Caleb Gindl followed with a double down the left field line as Lancaster went ahead, 2-0.

In the second, Greg Golson banged a two-out single into right, stole second and scored when Darian Sandford’s pop fly into shallow left center ticked off shortstop Vladimir Frias’ glove on a diving attempt.

Sandford was thrown out stealing to end that inning. Martinez opened the third with a single to left, but the Barnstormers managed only three more hits, two by Sandford and a walk the rest of the night.

Long Island put two runs on the board in the second. Hector Sanchez singled to left and went to second on a walk to David Washington. A grounder to the right side advanced both runners. Sanchez scored on a wild pitch, and Rando Moreno brought home Washington with a sacrifice fly to deep left.

Sanchez tied the game at 3-3 in the third with a double to right off Kelvin Vasquez (0-2). Moreno scored the next inning on a single up the middle by Ezequiel Carrera.

The combination of Alejandro Chacin and Matt Marksberry contained the Ducks for the final 4 1/3 innings, allowing only one walk and striking out seven. Fisher was replaced by Cody Mincey in the seventh. He and closer Josh Lueke would combine to strike out eight over the final three innings. The Barnstormers had a chance in the eighth as Sandford reached on an infield single, was sacrifice to second by Martinez and took third on a wild pickoff throw. Two strikeouts by Mincey ended the inning.

Lancaster and Long Island conclude the series on Sunday afternoon. Kyle Davies (4-3) will take the hill for Lancaster against lefty Darin Downs (0-2). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers’ YouTube Channel, beginning at 1:15.

NOTES: Sandford had more than two hits for the first time this season…He is 28-for-75 (.373) in his last 23 games…Gamache now has 24 doubles and is on a pace for more than 60…He has a nine-game hitting streak…Gindl picked up his 43^rd RBI…Marksberry has retired all 10 batters he has faced this weekend, five on strikes.

Barnstormers’ Right Fielder Steals Three in 7-4 Defeat

Despite the best efforts of right fielder Devon Torrence, who stole three bases on the afternoon, the Barnstormers dropped their third straight and 10^th in 11 games, a 7-4 defeat at the hands of the Long Island Ducks Sunday afternoon at Bethpage Ballpark.

Torrence, the former cornerback at Ohio State, was 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored for the afternoon. He stole second and third bases in the fifth inning and second base in the seventh. After review, it was ruled that he scored on an error, not on the back end of a delayed double steal in the third inning, denying him a share of the franchise single game record set by Darian Sandford in 2018.

Daniel Fields slugged a three-run homer off Kyle Davies (4-4) in the bottom of the second, and the Barnstormers spent the rest of the day attempting to make up the ground. After Torrence scored the run on the L.J. Mazzilli errant throw home in the top of the third, Kirk Nieuwenhuis slammed his third homer of the series and 11^th of the year in the bottom of the inning.

So went the game. A homer in the fourth and sacrifice fly in the fifth, both by Dan Gamache, brought Lancaster to within a run, but the Ducks scored a pair of runs with two outs in the bottom of the fifth, again establishing a three-run lead.

It was an unusual afternoon for Davies. The right-hander allowed eight hits and six runs in 5 1/3 innings. He also walked a season-high five, one more than he had issued in his previous five starts combined.

Matt Marksberry and Logan Sawyer gave Lancaster scoreless work out of the bullpen while Vladimir Frias belted his second homer of the year off Christian Meister in the eighth.

The Barnstormers, who have spent the equivalent of two full days on some mode of transportation over the last 2 ½ weeks, finally return home. They will face the Somerset Patriots to start a four-game series and seven-game homestand on Tuesday. Left-hander Jared Lakind (2-1) will take the mound for the Barnstormers. Fans may tune into Blue Ridge 11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 7:00.

NOTES: Sandford also stole a base as the Barnstormers took a season-high four…The game ended with an out on the bases, denying Gamache a chance to bat as the go-ahead run…Gamache’s home run extended his hitting streak to 10 games…He moved into second in the league with 41 RBI…Marksberry threw for the third straight game…He retired 12 of the 13 batters he faced over the weekend, striking out seven…Plate umpire Freddy De Jesus and third base umpire Calvin Baker had to switch positions after DeJesus took a foul ball off the face mask in the middle of the game.

Third Baseman Drives in Five to Lead Somerset to 14-3 Win

One-time Barnstormer Jimmy Paredes marked his return to the Atlantic League with a homer and five runs batted in, leading his new club, the Somerset Patriots to a 14-3 triumph over Lancaster Tuesday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The former Houston Astro, who spent three weeks with the Barnstormers in 2019 before running into visa issues, was finally cleared to join the Patriots in time for the series in Lancaster. He went on to go 3-for-5 and reached Jared Lakind (2-2) for a three-run homer in the top of the third to vault the Patriots to the win.

Brett Oberholtzer (5-1) carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Parker Morin slammed a two-run homer to right following a leadoff walk to Josh Bell.

By then, the game was well in Somerset’s hands at 10-0.

Lakind retired all six batters he faced over the first two innings. He opened the third with a walk to another one-time Barnstormer, Michael Crouse. Alfredo Rodriguez rapped a ground single into left, and the two executed a double steal. Yovan Gonzalez looped a fly ball to shallow center just out of the reach of second baseman Dan Gamache to produce the first run. Lakind retired two without allowing the second tally before Paredes slammed his blast onto the hill in left for the 4-0 lead.

A passed ball allowed another run to second in the fourth. Two more runs scored off Lakind in the fifth, and Christian Meister walked the bases loaded in the sixth before leaving. All three of those runners eventually scored.

By the time it ended, both right fielder Caleb Gindl and left fielder Zach Shank took turns on the mound, yielding three runs in the ninth.

The two clubs meet for a day-night doubleheader on Wednesday with a seven-inning contest at 11:00 in the morning and a nine-inning tilt at 7:00 PM. Lancaster will send right-hander Garrett Granitz (0-0) and lefty Buddy Baumann (2-6) to the hill against left-handers Logan Darnell and Thomas Dorminy. Both games will be carried live on Blue Ridge 11 and the Barnstormers YouTube Channel.

NOTES: Dan Gamache went 0-for-4 to lose a 10-game hitting streak…Gindl and K.C. Hobson had two hits apiece for Lancaster…Scott Shuman made his return to the mound after nearly a two-month absence…He walked the first batter he faced on four pitches before getting a double play and a strike out…Lancaster pitchers walked 11 in the game and missed the strike zone 89 times.

Lancaster Takes Doubleheader Opener, 5-2

Joe Terdoslavich and K.C. Hobson belted back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to lead the Lancaster Barnstormers to a 5-2 victory over the Somerset Patriots in the seven-inning opener of a day-night doubleheader early Wednesday at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

With two down in the fourth, Caleb Gindl legged out an infield single against Logan Darnell (1-1). Terdoslavich followed with a drive off the chain link fence above the left field wall to put Lancaster into a 2-2 tie. Hobson sent Darnell’s next pitch over the short porch in right to hand Lancaster the lead.

The other two Lancaster runs were built, not on power, but speed in the bottom of the fifth. Devon Torrence bunted his way on base and took second on a single to left center by Darian Sandford. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch by reliever James Pugliese. Martinez got Torrence home with a sacrifice fly to left. After stealing third, Sandford scored on another infield hit by Gindl.

Meanwhile, Lancaster’s pitching wove its way through a day-long obstacle course. Starter Garrett Granitz avoided giving up runs in the third, in part thanks to Anderson De La Rosa cutting down Scott Kelly on a steal attempt. Granitz, making just his second career start, could not survive the fourth. He was greeted by four consecutive Somerset hits, including an RBI triple off the fence in right center by Dario Pizzano. Later that same inning, Matt Marksberry, caught a break. Pitching to Justin Pacchioli with the bases loaded and two outs, Marksberry (3-3) fired high on a full count pitch, but Pacchioli made incidental contact on a check swing and fouled out to end the threat.

In the fifth, Marksberry left with a runner at first and two outs. Alejandro Chacin yielded a single to catcher Michael Ohlman, then advanced both runners with a wild pitch. He finally ended the inning as Alfredo Rodriguez flied to left. Chacin stranded the bases loaded in the sixth inning before Cody Eppley got the side in order in the seventh for his 10^th save of the year.

Overall, the Patriots left 11 runners on base for the game.

Buddy Baumann (2-6) takes the mound for the Barnstormers on Wednesday evening against lefty Thomas Dorminy (2-4) on Bark in the Park/Dollar Hot Dog Night. Fans may tune into Blue Ridge 11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 7:00.

NOTES: Sandford took the league lead with his 22^nd stolen base…It was his 149^th in the Atlantic League, tying him for 10^th all-time…The homer by Terdoslavich was the ‘Stormers first to left field at home this season…Eppley has 98 saves in the Atlantic League…Marksberry has struck out 11 of the last 20 batters he has faced over his last four appearances.

Somerset Drops Lancaster, 2-1, in Nightcap

Buddy Baumann’s season must make him feel like he is in a Dickensian novel. The Lancaster left-hander is playing the role of a starving orphan looking for sustenance.

Once again, the former San Diego Padre threw well. Once again, he was left hungry for a win.

Baumann fired all nine innings on a four-hitter Wednesday night, but was outdueled by four Somerset hurlers as the Patriots grabbed a 2-1 victory in the second game of a day-night doubleheader at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Lancaster had won the opener, 5-2 (see earlier story).

Only a two-batter spurt in the fifth inning spoiled Baumann’s night. Edwin Espinal lined a leadoff single off the fence in right. Michael Ohlman lofted a ball off the front railing of the Haller Pavilion for a two-run homer.

Outside of that stretch, Baumann allowed only four baserunners. He went the distance, yielding four hits and two walks while striking out seven. Baumann did it while limiting his pitch coiunt to 109.

Lancaster just provided meager support. Thomas Dorminy (3-4) got out of a bases loaded jam in the first. The Patriots southpaw pinned Dan Gamache at third base in the third inning.

In the seventh, reliever Luis Cruz was greeted by ground singles from Parker Morin and Josh Bell. Two pop flies and a strikeout later, the threat was over.

However, the difference was, in reality, the fourth inning. With two outs, Bell walked. Zach Shank plugged the alley, and the hop ticked off the backhanded try of center fielder Michael Crouse. Justin Pacchioli backed up the play. Shank, looking for a triple, charged for third. The Patriots executed a perfect 7-6-5 relay and got the out. Bell crossed the plate, but the trio of umpires waved off the run, saying the tag came first. The split second in timing proved to be the difference in the game.

Joe Terdoslavich did get the Barnstormers on the board with a two-out solo homer in the bottom of the eighth off Mike Broadway, but Mike Antonini sealed the deal with a perfect inning for his 22^nd save of the year.

The series concludes Thursday evening. Jonathan Albaladejo (0-3) will come off the injured list to make the start for Lancaster. He will be opposed by left-hander David Holmberg (0-2). Fans may tune into Blue Ridge 11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 7:00.

NOTES: Terdoslavich has four homers in his last five hits…Baumann became the first Lancaster pitcher to throw nine innings since Nate Reed exactly two years to the date earlier…Baumann has not won since May 14…He threw his seventh quality start of the year.

Somerset Shuts Down Barnstormers

For the second straight evening, a Lancaster left-hander gave a stellar performance. For the second straight night, he got no support.

John Anderson fired six innings, giving up only one earned run, but the Barnstormers got nowhere against David Holmberg and a pair of relievers as the Somerset Patriots captured the series finale against the ‘Stormers, 3-0.

Anderson (5-4) allowed an unearned run in the top of the first. The southpaw was greeted by consecutive singles off the bats of Ramon Flores and Rey Navarro. Anderson coaxed a double play out of Jimmy Paredes putting a runner at third with two outs. Before Edwin Espinal was retired on a ground ball, an Anderson pitch slipped through the legs of catcher Anderson De La Rosa for a run-producing passed ball.

A two-out RBI single by Alfredo Rodriguez in the fifth brought home the second Somerset run of the night. It scored Michael Ohlman, who reached base when his fly ball to center eluded the lunging try of Darian Sandford.

A third Patriots run came as the result of Will Kengor’s home run to right center off Scott Shuman in the ninth.

Meanwhile, the Barnstormers were stymied throughout the night by David Holmberg and the bullpen. Holmberg (1-2) allowed four hits and two walks over seven innings. Greg Golson doubled off Mike Broadway in the eighth. Closer Mike Antonini issued a walk to Caleb Gindl in the ninth en route to his 23^rd save.

Lancaster managed a runner in eight of the nine innings, always before the second out. Darian Sandford reached third base on three occasions. The club simply could not score.

When the game ended, the Barnstormers had gone 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position and 1-for-18 with runners on base. Somerset turned three double plays, one of which occurred when Sandford attempted to score on a pop fly to shallow right center. Rey Navarro’s throw to plate nabbed the Lancaster speedster on a razor thin play.

The final moment of frustration for the Lancaster offense came in the bottom of the ninth. Following the lengthy walk to Gindl, Joe Terdoslavich lifted a fly ball to shallow left field. Ramon Flores took a misstep backward, but Rodriguez made a mad dash back from short and rescued the play on the dead run, keeping the ‘Stormers from getting the tying run into scoring position.

Lancaster opens a three-game series against Southern Maryland on Friday night. Jonathan Albaladejo will make his first start since early May. He will match up against right-hander Michael Kelly. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel at 6:45.

NOTES: Sandford stole his 23^rd base of the season and 150^th as a Barnstormer, moving him into 10^th place all-time in Atlantic League history…Logan Sawyer stretched his streak of scoreless innings to 9 1/3.

Victory Marks Albaladejo’s Return

The Lancaster Barnstormers struck for four runs in consecutive innings on Friday evening to build a big early lead en route to a 10-3 victory over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in the opener of a three-game weekend series.

It was the first starts in seven weeks for Jonathan Albaladejo, who won his first of the season and 32^nd in the Atlantic League.

Down, 2-1, the Barnstormers pounced on Michael Kelly (3-4) for the first four spot in the home half of the third inning. Darian Sandford drew his second walk of the night and advanced to second on Michael Martinez’ single into right. Dan Gamache tied the game with a single to left. Caleb Gindl lined to left, but it served only as a brief reprieve for Kelly. Joe Terdoslavich ripped a double into the right field for a 3-2 lead, and K.C. Hobson made it 4-2 with a single to right. The final run of the inning scored on a passed ball.

The Barnstormers matched the output in the fourth. Sandford, leading off for the third time in the game doubled inside the left field line and stole third. He scored when Martinez doubled over the head of center fielder Cory Vaughn. Gamache reached on an infield single, and Gindl singled to left for a 7-2 edge. Additional runs scored on a ground out and Kelly’s second wild pitch.

Albaladejo (1-3), Lancaster’s player/coach, allowed four hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings in his first start since May 7. The right-hander threw 70 pitches before giving way to newcomer Pedro Echemedia, who worked two scoreless frames in his ALPB debut.

Charlie Valerio went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the loss for Southern Maryland.

Kyle Davies (4-4) will match up against Daryl Thompson (4-6) on Saturday at 6:30. Fireworks will follow the game on Farm Show Night at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:15.

Southern Maryland Wins Rematch of Historic Duel

The last time that Kyle Davies and Daryl Thompson pitched against each other, the Lancaster Barnstormers defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in record time.

Saturday evening’s rematch of the two veterans was more prolonged, but it provided as much drama.

Tony Thomas broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the seventh with a bases-loaded, ground rule double, leading the Blue Crabs to a 3-2 victory in the middle game of the series in front of a season-high 6,523 at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Thompson (5-6) threw seven innings on a six-hitter, leaving after Greg Golson and Darian Sandford singled to open the eighth. The right-hander walked one and struck out eight in notching his 50^th career victory in the Atlantic League.

Davies (4-5) had a two-hitter into the seventh before dropping his third straight decision. The right-hander worked at least seven innings for the seventh time in his last eight starts.

When the two met on June 2, Lancaster picked up the 3-1 win in one hour, 59 minutes, the fastest nine inning home game in ‘Stormers history.

Lancaster grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second on a single by Joe Terdoslavich, double by K.C. Hobson and a subsequent throwing error back to the infield by right fielder Rubi Silva.

That lead held until the top of the fifth when Blue Crabs catcher Charlie Valerio launched a home run onto the right field picnic deck.

However, it was in the seventh that the Blue Crabs jumped ahead. WIth one out, Jose Julio-Ruiz lined a double into right center. Cory Vaughn followed with a single to left and stole second. Valerio struck out looking. Davies walked around switch hitting third baseman Frank Martinez, walking him on four pitches. Thomas hit a deep fly to left. Greg Golson froze initially and was unable to catch up to the drive which hopped over the left field wall, providing the Blue Crabs with a 3-1 lead.

Lancaster was thwarted the next two innings. After the two base hits that opened the eighth, Ryan Chaffee entered the game. He struck out Michael Martinez following a pair of unsuccessful bunt attempts. Dan Gamache fouled out down the left field line for the second out before Caleb Gindl walked to load the bases. Lefty Adam Choplick issued a bases loaded walk to Terdoslavich to force home one run. The lefty worked to a 2-2 count on Hobson when Sandford made a mad dash toward the plate. Choplick stepped off and fired home, cutting Sandford down the protecting the one-run lead.

In the ninth, Hobson walked, and Parker Morin singled to start the inning. Pinch runner Devon Torrence stole third, moving the tying run 90 feet from home, but the inning died there as James Dykstra struck out Josh Bell and got Golson to bounce into a 4-6-3 double play to end the night.

The series concludes on Sunday afternoon with lefties Jared Lakind (2-2) and Tommy Thorpe (0-1) on the hill. Fans may tune into Blue Ridge 11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel at 1:00.

Club Walks 11 Times in Victory Over Blue Crabs

The Lancaster Barnstormers waited, watched and walked their way to victory on Sunday afternoon.

Southern Maryland’s pitching staff combined to walk 11 Lancaster batters and hit three others as the Barnstormers took the rubber game of a series, 10-3, at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The Barnstormers’ first run of the day was set up on consecutive walks issued by Tommy Thorpe (0-2) to start the second. That eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Devon Torrence.

In the next inning, Thorpe hit Joe Terdoslavich in the back foot with two outs. The Barnstormers used that as the first piece in a game-tying rally. K.C. Hobson drove home Terdoslavich with a wind blown double to center. Anderson De La Rosa evened the game with a ground single up the middle.

Darian Sandford walked, stole second, took third on blown coverage and scored on a single by Michael Martinez in the fourth as the Barnstormers went ahead to stay.

However, the mother lode of bases on balls came in the fifth when reliever El’ Hajj Muhammad put five men on board with walks around Greg Golson’s second hit of the afternoon. Lancaster parlayed all of that into just two runs having run into an out on the bases in the process. Muhammad walked Terdoslavich and hit De La Rosa and Golson back-to-back in the sixth, creating more problems for himself. Zach Shank lined a two-run single into left center, largely putting the game out of reach.

Jared Lakind (3-2) was the beneficiary of the support. The Lancaster lefty yielded seven singles over the first three innings, including two each by Kent Blackstone, Jon Griffin and Cory Vaughn. The latter two of that trio each singled home a tally in the third to give the Blue Crabs a 3-1 edge.
