LANCASTER FALLS IN 10
Barnstormers Lose First Try with New Overtime Rule
The Lancaster Barnstormers did not have a great first experience with the new extra inning rule employed by the Atlantic League in 2019.
Long Island took advantage of its placed runner at second base in the top of the tenth inning while the Barnstormers were unable to match the run in the bottom of the frame as the Ducks took a 5-4 decision in the third game of a four-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium Wednesday evening.
The top of the 10th inning opened with Mike Olt at second base for the Ducks. A Bryan Harper (0-1) wild pitch moved Olt to third, and he scored on a sacrifice fly to right center by Ivan DeJesus, Jr. Harper escaped more trouble in the inning by coaxing a double play out of Vladimir Frias to end the threat.
Under the new league rules, Darian Sandford took second to start the bottom of the inning. Dan Gamache moved him to third with a sacrifice bunt, but Lancaster could not push him across. Enrique Burgos (1-0) struck out Joe Terdoslavich on a 3-2 fastball, and Caleb Gindl grounded to short to end the night.
A barrage of singles off Matt Marksberry in the fifth and sixth innings put Long Island into a 4-1 lead. The Ducks broke a 1-1 tie as Frias and Rey Fuentes banged out consecutive hits to start the fifth, and a Steve Lombardozzi fielder’s choice grounder plated the run.
Base hits by De Jesus and Matt den Dekker put runners at first and third to open the sixth. Marksberry struck out Ramon Cabrera for the first out, but Frias punched an RBI single into center for a 3-1 lead. Fuentes made it 4-1 with a single looped down the left field line.
Gindl singled home one run off Vin Mazzaro in the eighth to trim the Long Island advantage to 4-2. Following a double play smashed into by Josh Bell, K.C. Hobson unloaded a game tying, two-run homer to level the score.
The series concludes on Thursday evening with Jonathan Albaledejo (0-1) on the hill for Lancaster against right-hander Tim Melville (1-0). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel beginning at 6:45.
NOTES: Hobson’s homer was his 17th career blast against the Ducks and his 57th as a Barnstormer…Gindl has batted safely in all six games…Lancaster’s pitching struck out 11 more batters and has now whiffed 68 in six games…Marksberry was making his fourth appearance of the season…Harper has thrown four innings against the Ducks…Newcomer Andury Acevedo pitched a scoreless seventh for Lancaster.

PITCHING DOMINATES AS BARNSTORMERS WIN ROAD OPENER
Staff Fans 15 in 4-1 Win
The Lancaster Barnstormers pitching staff continued to pile up the strikeouts on Friday evening, whiffing 15 Southern Maryland Blue Crabs en route to a 4-1 victory in the Crabs’ home opener at Regency Furniture Stadium.
Starter Jake McCasland fanned 10 Blue Crabs in 7 2/3 innings. Matt Marksberry struck out two more despite recording only one out (Rubi Silva reached on a wild pitch), and Cody Eppley got through the side in order in the bottom of the ninth in his return to Southern Maryland.
Overall, Lancaster pitching has struck out 89 batters in 73 innings this season.
The Barnstormers produced enough offensively on Friday evening.
Darian Sandford led off the game with an infield single to the right side. He stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and raced home on a ground out by Dan Gamache.
Gamache homered to left center off Brandon Cumpton (0-2) in the fourth inning. Lancaster tacked on another run in the fifth as Zach Shank grounded a single up the middle, took second on a high bounder by Anderson De La Rosa and scored when Melvin Mercedes banged a single up the middle.
McCasland (1-1) did not allow a runner to reach base for his first 7 1/3 innings. The only run of the night for the host Blue Crabs came when catcher Mike Falsetti slammed a 3-2 pitch to left center.
Southern Maryland sends left-hander Pat Dean (1-0) to the mound against right-hander Kyle Davies (0—0. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 6:15.

BARNSTORMERS BLANKED IN EXTRA INNINGS
Sugar Land Wins, 1-0, in 10 Frames
Call it the ghost runner, phantom runner or whatever you will, but the Lancaster Barnstormers are certainly getting spooked by it.
For the second time in less than a week, the Barnstormers have allowed the extra inning runner at second and have not been able to match it as the Sugar Land Skeeters captured the opener of a day-night doubleheader, 1-0, in 10 innings Tuesday afternoon at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
The second game is scheduled for 7:00 on Tuesday evening.
Sugar Land opened the top of the 10th with pinch runner Roy Merritt at second. He quickly scored as Cody Stanley rapped a double into the right field corner off Bryan Harper (0-2). Sugar Land would continue the inning, loading the bases with one out before Harper fanned Jared Mitchell for the second out, and Andury Acevedo got Chris Colabello to bounce into a force out to close the inning.
Devon Torrence opened the Lancaster half of the inning at second base but never moved against Felipe Paulino (1-0).
Starters Konner Wade and Buddy Baumann dominated the game through the first six and a half innings.
Baumann worked the first seven for the Barnstormers, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out four. He kept his scoreless innings streak alive at 13. It almost ended on a blast by Albert Cordero to left in the seventh. The ball hopped back onto the field of play and was initially ruled a double. That was overturned upon an argument by Sugar Land skipper Pete Incaviglia. Ross Peeples made a rebuttal, and got the call reverted to a two-bagger.
Wade yielded only four singles in his six innings of work, walking none and striking out one. The Barnstormers had their best opportunity of the day against reliever Matt West in the bottom of the seventh when K.C. Hobson singled to left center, and Josh Bell was hit by a pitch to start the inning. West recovered and struck out the side.
Jonathan Albaladejo (0-2) gets the game two start against Merritt (1-1). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:45.
NOTES: Both of Harper’s losses have come in extra innings on the unearned run…The Barnstormers lead the league with a 2.74 composite ERA…Hobson has hit safely in six of his last seven games, going 9-for-28…Lancaster is 2-6 at home.

BARNSTORMERS THUMPED IN NIGHTCAP
Sugar Land Launches Five Homers in 15-6 Win
Jared Mitchell slammed two homers and drove in six runs to lead the Sugar Land Skeeters to a 15-6 win over the host Lancaster Barnstormers Tuesday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
The rout completed a day-night doubleheader sweep for the Skeeters who took the opener, 1-0.
Mitchell clubbed a solo homer with one out in the top of the first off Jonathan Albaladejo (0-3). Cody Stanley and Juan Silverio added solo blasts over the next pair of innings for a 3-0 Sugar Land lead.
Stanley connected again in the top of the fifth for a 6-0 lead. Mitchell tacked on a RBI single later that inning before an eighth run crossed the plate on a force play grounder.
The Mitchell slam came in the top of the eighth off reliever Logan Sawyer on the heels of a bases loaded walk to Alvaro Rondon and made it, 13-1. Two more strode home as Albert Cordero greeted Caleb Gindl with a two-run double.
Gindl singled home a run in the bottom of the eighth, and the Barnstormers built some momentum with four runs on five singles in the ninth, including two on a base hit to left center by Dan Gamache.
The series concludes on Wednesday at 11:00 AM with John Anderson (2-0) taking the hill for the Barnstormers. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 10:45.

McGOWAN, PHIPPS LEAD SUGAR LAND TO SWEEP
Barnstormers Drop 6-3 Decision in Series Finale
Denis Phipps homered twice, and Kevin McGowan fired six shutout innings early Wednesday to lead the Sugar Land Skeeters to a 6-3 win over the Lancaster Barnstormers, completing a series sweep at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
Phipps reached John Anderson (2-1) for a one-out blast to right center in the fourth inning. Two frames later, the Sugar Land left fielder greeted lefty reliever Matt Marksberry with a drive that landed just shy of the upper walkway in left field, capping the Skeeters’ scoring for the day.
Despite the Phipps heroics, it was a seemingly innocent beginning to the third inning which ignited the Skeeters.
Alvaro Rondon, leading off against Anderson, fell behind in the count. The Sugar Land shortstop battled through a number of two strike foul balls before legging out a double on a liner to right center. C. J. McElroy followed with his own double to the same gap, staking McGowan to a 1-0 lead. Chris Colabello drove home a second run with a sac fly to left later in the inning.
Between the Phipps clouts, Jared Mitchell, who drove in six runs Tuesday night, doubled home a pair in the fifth inning.
McGowan limited the Barnstormers to only two hits and a walk through six innings, but the game started to swing in Lancaster’s favor in the seventh.
Joe Terdoslavich and Josh Bell drew walks from Kevin Comer around a single by K.C. Hobson to load the bases with nobody out. One run scored on a force play grounder by Parker Morin. Devon Torrence drove in a second with a two-out single to center to narrow the gap to 6-2.
The Barnstormers were again in business in the eighth inning as Dan Gamache walked on four pitches, and Caleb Gindl dropped down a perfect bunt. Both runner moved ahead on a wild pitch from James Dykstra.
With the count 3-2 on Terdoslavich, Dykstra was pulled with an injury. Matt West took over and retired three straight hitters without a ball put into fair territory. The Barnstormers managed to score Gamache on a wild pitch to trim the lead to three.
Morin led off the ninth with a single, but the Barnstormers never brought the tying run to the plate against Felipe Paulino, who earned his third save.
Lancaster heads to Somerset to open a four-game series on Thursday evening. Lefty Jared Lakind will make the start for the Barnstormers against right-hander Liam O’Sullivan. Fans may tune into the Barnstomrers YouTube Channel, starting at 6:15.
NOTES: The Barnstormers have lost six consecutive games at home…Sugar Land has 16 extra base hits in the last two games with three mutli-homer games…Hobson has hit safely in eight of nine…Torrence’s RBI in the eighth was his first.

BARNSTORMERS RALLY PAST SOMERSET
Gindl Single Breaks Ninth Inning Tie as Stormers Win, 5-3
The Lancaster Barnstormers are enjoying the road.
Caleb Gindl singled with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth to break a 3-3 tie as the ‘Stormers rallied past the Somerset Patriots, 5-3, Thursday evening at TD Bank Park.
The win kept the Barnstormers record unblemished at 3-0 away from Clipper Magazine Stadium. It also ended the Patriots’ seven-game winning streak.
With the score tied, 3-3, Anderson De La Rosa ripped a one-out double inside the third base bag to trigger the winning uprising off Jake Joyce (0-1). Darian Sandford walked, and Dan Gamache singled to advance pinch runner Devon Torrence to third and send Sandford to second. Gindl rolled his grounder up the middle just past the diving shortstop Alfredo Rodriguez to snap the tie.
The ninth capped a comeback for the Barnstormers, who trailed, 3-1, through the first five innings.
K.C. Hobson and Josh Bell ripped consecutive doubles down the right field line with two outs in the sixth to cut the deficit to one. Gamache, who had four hits on the night, doubled over the head of left fielder Ramon Flores to lead off the eighth. He scored two batters later on a single by Joe Terdoslavich into right center.
Gamache had staked the Barnstormers to a 1-0 lead with a single to left center in the third that plated De La Rosa from second.
Somerset’s only productive inning was the third. Steve Nyisztor drew a leadoff walk from Jared Lakind, and Craig Massey singled to right with one out. After Lakind fanned Rodriguez for the second out, Flores lofted a fly ball to left that sliced away from Terdoslavich for an RBI double. Rey Navarro then lined a double over the left fielder’s head to drive home two more and stake starter Liam O’Sullivan to a 3-1 lead.
Lancaster’s bullpen was solid, tossing 3 2/3 innings of no-hit baseball. Logan Sawyer (1-0) picked up the win for the Barnstormers. Cody Eppley pitched a perfect ninth for his third save.
Jake McCasland (1-1) will take the mound for the Barnstormers on Friday evening against David Kubiak (1-0). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:45.

‘STORMERS BATS QUIET IN LOSS
Somerset Wins Pitchers’ Duel, 2-0
Runs are proving difficult to find for the Lancaster Barnstormers at TD Bank Park this weekend.
On Saturday, Brett Oberholtzer and a pair of relievers limited the Lancaster attack to five singles as the Patriots picked up a 2-0 victory in the third game of a four-game series.
It marked the fifth loss in the last six games for Lancaster.
Oberholtzer (1-0) retired the first nine batters he faced and lasted five innings, yielding two hits and two walks. James Pugliese threw the next two, Mike Broadway worked the eighth, and Mike Antonini threw the ninth for his seventh save.
On this night, Lancaster had chances. In the fourth singles to left by Dan Gamache and Caleb GIndl around a walk to Joe Terdoslavich loaded the bases with one out. Oberholtzer coaxed a 6-4-3 double play out of Josh Bell.
Three innings after, Pugliese walked Gindl leading off. Bell grounded into another double play, forcing the team to reload. K.C. Hobson and Zach Shank singled, putting the tying runs aboard. Anderson De La Rosa stroked a grounder to shortstop Alfredo Rodriguez, but the force play throw to second was late, enabling Lancaster to bring Darian Sandford to the plate with the bases loaded. Sandford got to 3-1 before grounding to Rodriguez to cap the inning.
Somerset picked up the only runs it needed off Kyle Davies (0-1) in the third. Rodriguez walked leading off and took second on a Ramon Flores bunt. Will Kengor drilled a single into right to score the first run. Rey Navarro followed suit, and Michael Ohlman walked. Kengor scored on a foul sacrifice fly by Edwin Espinal.
Davies worked six innings, allowing six singles and the two runs. The right-hander walked three and struck out eight.
The series is scheduled to conclude on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 with lefties Buddy Baumann (1-0) and Rick Teasley (0-0) as the mound opponents. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 12:45.
NOTES: Lancaster’s pitching struck out 10 and has now fanned 151 in 135 innings this season…Michael Martinez was 0-for-4 in his ‘Stormers debut but lined out twice…Davies threw his second straight quality start and the club’s fifth in the last eight games…Lancaster has gone 17 2/3 innings without scoring and, at one stretch, went 12 innings without a hit.

HBP SPELLS DEMISE FOR ‘STORMERS
Bees Game Winner Forced Home in Ninth
Alejandro De Aza took one for the team.
The New Britain center fielder was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth as the Bees pulled out a 5-4 victory over the Lancaster Barnstormers in the middle game of a three-game series at New Britain Stadium.
Andury Acevedo (0-1) walked Logan Moore to start the home half of the ninth, and Darren Ford bunted the winning run to second. Lancaster manager Ross Peeples opted to walk lefty batting Alexi Amarista to fill in first. However, Acevedo and catcher Parker Morin misfired as a passed ball sent the runners to second and third. Peeples again went to the intentional walk, putting Jason Rogers aboard to load the bases. Bryan Harper was summoned and hit De Aza to end the night.
The winning run scored on the heels of the Barnstormers tying the game in the top of the inning. Darian Sandford picked up a leadoff walk from Jose Rosario (2-1). He promptly stole second and was sacrificed to third by Devon Torrence. Michael Martinez picked up the RBI with a sac fly to deep left center.
Lancaster had grabbed an early 2-0 lead on unearned runs, but the Bees struck back with four runs in the home fifth.
John Anderson retired 12 of the first 13 batters he faced in the game but fell victim to a slew of singles. Jonathan Galvez grounded a base hit into left to start the inning. Jared James beat out a slow roller to shortstop, and both moved up on an Ozzie Martinez bunt. Moore rolled a slow grounder toward third and beat it out as the first run scored. The game was tied on Ford’s sacrifice fly to center, but the inning continued as Amarista reached on the third infield single of the frame. Moore scored the lead run as Michael Martinez’ throw sailed out of bound. Rogers made it 4-2 with a ground single off the glove of third baseman Joe Terdoslavich. De Aza chased Anderson from the game with another ground single into left, the sixth base hit of the inning.
Terdoslavich singled home a run in the top of the sixth off right-hander Zach Stewart, who left with the bases loaded and no one out. Newcomer Michael Johnson pinned all three runners to preserve the lead.
The Barnstormers and Bees wrap up the three-game series on Thursday morning. Jared Lakind (0-0) makes the start for the Barnstormers against lefty Christian Friedrich (0-1). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 10:20.
NOTES: Dan Gamache singled in the sixth to extend his hitting streak to seven games, tying him for the club’s longest of the season…Caleb Gindl was 3-for-4, his second three-hit game of the season…Sandford’s steal, his sixth of the year, was his first in six games…Lancaster went without an extra base hit for the fourth time in 17 games.

GAME DOES 180, BARNSTORMERS ROMP
Lancaster Dumps New Britain, 10-3
The New Britain Bees left an entire hive on base in the first four innings and lived to regret it.
New Britain stranded 10 runners while only building a 3-0 lead, allowing the Lancaster Barnstormers to stick around early Thursday. The ‘Stormers recovered and ended up romping to a 10-3 victory in the rubber game of a three-games series at New Britain Stadium.
Typifying the Bees woes was the bottom of the first. Alexi Amarista led off with a home run to right center. New Britain tacked on a single, a double, a walk and a hit batter but never scored again. Key to the inning was a 7-6-2 relay which cut down Ozzie Martinez, who overslid the plate on Deibinson Romero’s double off the fence in left center.
The Bees left the bases loaded in the first and the second as Jared Lakind continued to dance around the difficulties. In the third, Romero and Jared James reached to open the inning, but Lakind got Bijan Rademacher to ground into a double play killing the threat.
In the fourth, the Bees finally chased Lakind as Martinez drew his third walk of the game, and Alejandro De Aza singled to right center. Alejando Chacin (1-0) allowed both inherited runners to score on singles by Rogers and James, but again, both those runners were stranded.
Chacin, Garrett Granitz and Cody Eppley shut down the Bees on four hits over the final five innings.
Lancaster’s comeback began in the fifth when K.C. Hobson, after a lengthy battle against Christian Friedrich, led off with a homer to right. One out later, Darian Sandford bunted for a single and stole second. He would score on a single to left by Michael Martinez as Lancaster pulled within one.
The Barnstormers took command in the seventh. Hobson beat out an infield single and went to second as Brian Mayer was hit by a pitch. Brandon Fry (0-1) bobbled a bouncer by Sandford to load the bases, and Devon Torrence tied the game with a single to center.
Sam Gervacio took over and struck out Martinez. Dan Gamache put the Barnstormers ahead with a two-run double off the fence in right center. Joe Terdoslavich singled home the two remaining runners with a soft liner into left center as the ‘Stormers went up, 7-3.
The final three runs crossed in the ninth inning.
Lancaster opens a three-game series against Somerset on Friday at 7:00. The first 1,000 fans will get a Barnstormers Foam Finger. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:45.
NOTES: The win was the 999th in franchise history…It was the longest game (3:38) played by Lancaster this season…The 10 runs was a season high, and the 12 hits matched the Lancaster high watermark for the year…Hobson has both Lancaster homers off lefty pitching this season…New Britain stranded 15 runners overall, the most against the ‘Stormers in 2019…Gamache has hit safely in eight straight games (12-33, .364).

BARNSTORMERS ROMP TO #1000
Lancaster Raps Out 19 Hits in 10-3 Win
The Lancaster Barnstormers picked up the 1,000th win in franchise history in style Saturday night.
Lancaster banged out 19 hits, including seven for extra bases in a 10-3 romp over the Somerset Patriots in the second game of a four-game weekend series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
Bats were booming for the Barnstormers all night long, but five hits went to waste over the first two innings. The ‘Stormers finally reached the scoreboard in the third when Caleb Gindl launched a one-out triple to the gap in left center and scored on a single to left by Joe Terdoslavich, who collected four hits in the game.
The fourth inning was where the game broke open. Anderson De La Rosa led off with a double to the wall in right and took third on Darian Sandford’s bunt single. De La Rosa scored on a wild pitch during a walk to Michael Martinez. Dan Gamache produced the second run of the inning off Brett Oberholtzer (1-1) on a single to right that scored Sandford. Martinez took third as the ball briefly eluded Rey Navarro and scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Gindl.
Lancaster loaded the sacks on a single by Terdoslavich and a walk to Josh Bell before K.C. Hobson yanked a grand slam onto the tent in right to cap the seven-run inning, Lancaster’s biggest of the year.
Although the hits kept coming, the Barnstormers only scored again on a two-run homer to right center by Gindl in the bottom of the eighth.
The offensive surge provided more than ample breathing room for Kyle Davies (1-1) who gave the Barnstormers his third straight quality start. Davies retired 12 of 13 over the first four innings before being reached by the Patriots on a Will Kengor double and Navarro’s homer to right center.
Davies choked off an uprising in the sixth, but the former Patriot issued a leadoff walk to Michael Ohlman in the seventh, and Navarro singled to right. The run scored on a Mike Fransoso double play.
Lancaster entertains the Patriots in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The opener will feature a matchup of left-handers with Buddy Baumann (2-0) taking on Somerset’s Rick Teasley (0-0). Spot starters Vince Molesky (1-0) and Alejandro Chacin (1-0) will lock horns in the second game. Fans may tune into Blue Ridge Cable 11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel for the opener. The second game will be on the YouTube Channel only.
NOTES: Lancaster established its new season high for hits by the fourth inning…Hobson’s homer was his 59th as a Barnstormer, tying him for third on the all-time list…Gindl had his fourth game of the year with a homer and three RBI…His triple was Lancaster’s first of the season…Kelvin Vasquez made his Atlantic League debut for the Barnstormers in the eighth…He walked the leadoff batter before retiring the side in order…Lancaster’s 1,000th win came against Patriots’ skipper Brett Jodie, who was also the losing pitcher in the Barnstormers’ first win.

TERDOSLAVICH, BELL DELIVER WIN
Lancaster Walks Off Against New Britain
After a number of missed opportunities, the Lancaster Barnstormers got the big hits in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Joe Terdoslavich and Josh Bell produced back-to-back singles with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth as the Barnstormers overturned a New Britain Bees lead in a 4-3 Lancaster win Tuesday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
Trailing, 3-2, entering the bottom of the ninth, the Barnstormers picked up a leadoff single to left by Darian Sandford on a 3-2 offering from Giovanni Soto (1-1). Michael Martinez and Dan Gamache walked to load the bases. Soto recovered for one batter, getting league RBI leader Caleb Gindl to pop up to third base on the first pitch he saw. Terdoslavich battled before lining a base hit to left that dropped in front of Darren Ford for a tying base hit. Bell took Soto into center with a line drive for the game winner.
Jason Rogers had staked the Bees to a 2-1 lead in the third, following a single by Alejandro De Aza with a two-run homer to the Haller Pavilion. In the fifth, De Aza singled and scored on a long double to left by Rogers as the Bees regained the lead, 3-2.
Otherwise, it was a frustrating night for both offenses as they combined to strand 22 baserunners. The Bees had Taylor Motter thrown out at the plate by Zach Shank in the second and left six runners aboard in the first four innings.
They had a big chance to break the game open in the eighth. Jonathan Galvez led off with a walk from Andury Acevedo and took second on a Motter single. Both runners moved up on a passed ball, but Acevedo rallied to strike out Logan Moore and Ford before retiring Alexi Amarista on a grounder to second base.
The Barnstormers, who had scored on an infield single by Terdoslavich in the first, loaded the bases on a single and two walks in the fourth, scoring only once. In the sixth, singles by Bell and K.C. Hobson plus a wild pitch put runners at second and third with nobody out. Lefties Brandon Fry and Michael Johnson pitched out of the threat.
Bell and Hobson reached again off Jim Fuller in the eighth. Fuller worked out of the jam to preserve the one-run lead.
Cody Eppley (1-0) pitched a perfect ninth to secure the win.
Lancaster hosts New Britain again on Wednesday. Jared Lakind (0-0) will take the mound against fello lefty Christain Friedrich (1-1). Fans may tune into Blue Ridge Cable 11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting a 7:00.
NOTES: Dan Gamache went 3-for-4 and has now hit safely in 13 straight…Gindl has a seven-game hitting streak and a five-game extra base hit streak, following a double in the first inning…Terdoslavich has seven RBI in four games against New Britain…The Barnstormers won for the first time in five tries in a one-run game…Eppley pitched his fourth 1-2-3 inning in his last six relief appearances.

BARNSTORMERS TRIPPED UP BY BEES
Walks, Errors Assist New Britain to 6-2 Win
The New Britain Bees used two doubles, a homer and some help from the Lancaster Barnstormers to build a 6-2 victory Wednesday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
Three walks crossed the plate, a physical error led to one New Britain run, and a mental error allowed another to cross as the Barnstormers failed to follow one win with another for the sixth straight time.
Jared Lakind (0-1) walked Jason Rogers and Deibinson Romero to open the fourth inning. Jonathan Galvez scorched a double past third baseman Josh Bell down the line to drive home one, and Taylor Motter scored two more with a two-base hit down the right field line as the Bees grabbed a 3-2 lead.
Alejandro De Aza connected off Garrett Granitz for his second homer of the season in the fifth inning. Later, with two outs and runners at first and third, Granitz knocked down a comebacker by Motter, then pulled first baseman K.C. Hobson off the bag with a wide throw as a fifth New Britain run scored.
The final Bees tally came in the sixth when, with runners at second and third, De Aza grounded to the right of Hobson. Hobson glanced lead runner Alexi Amarista back to third, then discovered first unprotected. He raced to get De Aza, realized he would be late there. Meanwhile Amarista broke for the plate and beat Hobson’s throw home for a 6-2 margin.
Anderson De La Rosa provided the Barnstormers with their only offense off Christian Friedrich (2-1). The Barnstormers catcher hit his first home run since April 29, 2018, a two-run blast onto the right field deck in the second.
De La Rosa also singled and doubled in the game while Joe Terdoslavich was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Friedrich allowed four hits in five innings, walking one and striking out seven. His relievers fanned five more over the final four innings.
The rubber game of the series will be played Thursday morning at 11:00. Lancaster will send right-hander Jake McCasland (1-3) to the mound against Cory Riordan (1-2). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 10:45.
NOTES: Dan Gamache lost his hitting streak at 13 games…Caleb Gindl failed to hit for the first time in eight games…De La Rosa is 7-for-11 on the homestand to lift his season average to .318…Gindl made his third appearance of the season on the mound…He walked one, struck out two and allowed a single…Lancaster has not won back-to-back games since May 3-4 at Southern Maryland.

BEES EVERYWHERE!
New Britain Records 18 Hits in 13-9 Win
Everywhere you looked, there was a New Britain Bee on base.
Thirty different Bees reached during Thursday’s matinee game at Clipper Magazine Stadium as New Britain downed the host Lancaster Barnstormers, 13-9.
New Britain rapped out 18 hits, including six for extra bases. They drew 11 walks. For good measure one more reached on an error. They never went down 1-2-3 in an inning against seven Lancaster pitchers.
It all started in the top of the second when the Bees struck for four runs off Jake McCasland (1-4). Jonathan Galvez drilled a triple to the left center field alley, making it to third easily as Devon Torrence and Darian Sandford collided attempt to race down the liner. With the infield playing up at the edge of the grass, Jared James looped a single into shallow left to score the run. Taylor Motter stroked a grounder to the backhand of third baseman Joe Terdoslavich, who made a wild throw to second. Bijan Rademacher smashed a grounder to first baseman K.C. Hobson, who got a force at second, but McCasland missed the first base bag on the return throw from shortstop. Logan Moore lined out, but Alexi Amarista, with his team kept alive, drove a three-run homer onto the tent in right for the 4-0 lead.
Three RBI off a pair of Martinez singles and a wild double steal between Martinez and Darian Sandford that ultimately led to a throwing error and a run allowed the Barnstormers to draw into a tie by the end of the fourth inning at 5-5.
Walks again proved to be the undoing of Lancaster pitching. McCasland put the first two Bees of the fifth inning aboard and gave way to Matt Marksberry. The lefty loaded the bases with a walk to James. Motter followed with an RBI single to center as New Britain took the lead for good. A bases loaded walk to Rademacher produced another run before Marksberry and Kelvin Vasquez worked out of the inning.
Homers by Alejandro De Aza and Galvez in the sixth blew the game open to 10-5.
By game’s end, Galvez was a double shy of the cycle, and Amarista missed the feat by a triple. New Britain left 16 runners on base.
The day was also productive for the Barnstormers at the plate as everyone in the lineup, other than Parker Morin, collected at least one of Lancaster’s 13 hits. Martinez was 3-for-5 with three RBI. K.C. Hobson belted a double and a homer, and Terdoslavich collected two more singles.
Lancaster opens a three-game weekend series at York’s People’s Bank Park on Friday evening. Right-hander Kyle Davies (1-1) will take the mound for Lancaster against right-hander Matthew Grimes (1-2). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 6:15.
NOTES: Hobson’s homer gave him sole possession of third place on the ‘Stormers’ all-time career list…He is one behind Lance Burkhart for second…Terdoslavich had his eighth multi-hit game of the season…Caleb Gindl threw a scoreless ninth for the second straight game…RHP Andury Acevedo was forced to leave the game after being drilled in the leg by an Alejandro De Aza liner in the seventh.

EPPLEY HOLDS ON
Closer Gets Five Outs in 4-3 Win Over York
Cody Eppley was pushed beyond his usual role.
The Barnstormers closer was summoned with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning and got the final five outs of the night as the Barnstormers held off the York Revolution, 4-3.
It was the first step toward the Barnstormers’ defense of the Community Cup title.
With a 4-2 lead entering the bottom of the eighth, the Barnstormers replaced starter Kyle Davies with right-handed reliever Alejandro Chacin. Chacin surrendered three walks to four batters, only notching an out on a foul pop up by Justin Trapp on a 3-2 pitch.
Eppley took over and struck out Telvin Nash for the second out. A wild pitch enabled James Skelton to score with Alexi Casilla and Henry Castlilo moving into scoring position. Isaias Tejeda swung at a 3-0 pitch and lofted a lazy fly ball to Caleb Gindl in right to end the inning.
Melky Mesa singled to left to start the home ninth and moved to second on a sacrifice by Welington Dotel. Ryan Dent smoked a liner to short, and Michael Martinez made a snap throw to second to double off Mesa, ending the night.
The Barnstormers jumped on Matthew Grimes (1-3) for all four of their runs in the third inning. Zach Shank and Anderson De La Rosa picked up the first two Lancaster hits of the game on line drives. Darian Sandford bunted back to the mound, but Grimes made a wide throw attempting to force Shank. Martinez bounced to the backhand side of Nash, who found first base uncovered after a quick bobble as the first run scored. Following a force out at home, Caleb Gindl singled through the right side for a 2-0 lead. Joe Terdoslavich drilled a two-run double to right center to cap the scoring.
York got single runs back off Davies (2-1) in the fifth and sixth innings.
The Barnstormers and Revs meet for the middle game of the three-game series on Saturday at 6:30. Buddy Baumann (2-1) will match up against York right-hander Daniel Minor (1-2). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel at 6:15.
NOTES: Davies authored his fourth consecutive quality start…Eppley’s save was his 93rd in the Atlantic League…Gindl had his fourth three-hit game of the season…Martinez has six hits in the last two games…Terdoslavich has hit safely in 21 of 24.

MESA’S BIG NIGHT DOWNS ‘STORMERS
York Left Fielder Drives Home Five
The man known as the Baby Shark in York grew up into a full-fledged Great White on Saturday night.
Melky Mesa went 3-for-5 with a homer, triple and five RBI to lead the York Revolution to an 11-3 win over the visiting Lancaster Barnstormers at People’s Bank Park to even the current series at one apiece.
Mesa set the tone for the night with a three-run homer off Buddy Baumann (2-2) in the bottom of the first inning. J.P. Sportman and Alexi Casilla opened the inning with singles. Baumann retired the next two hitters and had Mesa at 2-2. The pair battled through several foul balls before the former Yankee slammed his home run over the 37-foot left field wall.
The third inning was keyed by Mesa’s triple. Again, Sportman and Casilla reached base. Baumann retired Telvin Nash on a grounder to third. Isaias Tejeda singled home the Revs’ fourth run. Mesa drove his triple to dead center over the head of Darian Sandford to drive home two more. A single up the middle by Welington Dotel advanced the score to 7-0. James Skelton capped the five-run inning with a ground rule double to deep right center.
Lancaster had chances to pull back into the game. Michael Martinez doubled and scored on a Caleb Gindl sac fly in the fourth. Parker Morin and Martinez singled home runs in the fifth to cut the York lead to 8-3.
The best chance for the Barnstormers to pressure York came in the seventh when Zach Shank singled, and Darian Sandford walked against reliever Peter Tago before he could record the first out. Tago recovered and froze the runners in place with a pair of strikeouts and a bouncer back to the hill.
Mesa singled to open the seventh, leading to two more runs. Telvin Nash homered for the Revs in the eighth.
Dan Minor (2-2) was the beneficiary of the York support, yielding five hits and three runs in five innings of work.
The Barnstormers and Revolution meet for the final game of the three-game series on Sunday afternoon. Lancaster will send lefty John Anderson (2-1) to the mound against newcomer Duke von Schamann, a right-hander. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 12:45.
NOTES: The Barnstormers still have not won back-to-back games since May 3-4…Martinez has eight hits over the last three games…Lancaster’s catching corps produced three more hits with two for Parker Morin and one for Brian Mayer in the ninth…Gindl drove home his 26th run of the year.

BARNSTORMERS CLAIM FIRST WIN ON NEW RULE
Lancaster Claims 6-5 Win at York
For the first time in three attempts, the Lancaster Barnstormers have won on the Atlantic League’s new overtime rule.
While both the ‘Stormers and the York Revolution scored their “ghost” runner from second base, Lancaster was able to plate one more in the top of the tenth inning en route to a 6-5 victory over York in the rubber game of a three-game series Sunday afternoon
Opening the 10th inning, K.C. Hobson took his place at second. Josh Bell immediately singled him to third on the first pitch served by Jarrett Martin (0-1). Hobson scored on a wild pitch for a 5-4 lead. Bell then took third on a passed ball and later scored the deciding run on Darian Sandford’s sacrifice fly to right.
Cody Eppley allowed the Revs the “ghost run” in the bottom of the inning on a ground out and passed ball, but the Revs threatened to do more. Isaias Tejeda picked up a two-out walk from the Lancaster closer. Welington Dotel singled up the middle to put a second runner aboard, but Eppley was able to record his sixth save when Nate Coronado popped up to shortstop for the final out.
The Barnstormers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the fourth. Dan Gamache reached on a dropped liner to start the inning and took third on a double to left center by Caleb Gindl. Joe Terdoslavich put the ‘Stormers ahead with a sacrifice fly to left. Hobson doubled home Gindl for a 2-0 lead, and Anderson De La Rosa cranked his own two-base hit inside the left field line for a 3-0 edge.
John Anderson yielded a homer to Telvin Nash in the bottom of the inning, but it would be the only run allowed by the Lancaster lefty over the first six innings.
Anderson departed with a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh after Nash led off with a double and moved to third on a one-out single by Dotel. Garrett Granitz entered in relief but missed with 12 of his 14 pitches, forcing home two runs. Alejandro Chacin took over and allowed the tying run to score on a sacrifice fly by J.P. Sportman before striking out Henry Castillo to quell the threat.
Matt Marksberry (1-1) picked up the win for the Barnstormers after throwing a scoreless ninth inning.
The Barnstormers will open a four-game series at Bethpage Ballpark on Long Island Monday evening. Jared Lakind (0-1) takes the mound for Lancaster against fellow lefty Sean Nolin (3-0). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 6:15.
NOTES: De La Rosa went 2-for-3 to stretch his hitting streak to five games…He is 10-for-18 in that span…Hobson has doubled in four straight contests…Anderson gave the Barnstormers his first quality start, and his team’s 10th, of the season…Lancaster is 7-4 on the road this season.

BIZARRE FINISH IN DOUBT
Long Island’s Win Protested by Barnstormers
The Long Island Ducks pulled out a 3-2 victory over the Lancaster Barnstormers in a very bizarre manner Monday evening at Bethpage Ballpark.
Or did they?
Lee Mazzilli’s line drive into the left field corner eluded Zach Shank. Umpires and Atlantic League officials are working to determine exactly when. The decision could mean a tie game with the winning run at third or a ‘Stormers loss.
When the play began, Lancaster led, 2-1, and Steve Lombardozzi stood at first with the tying run, one out into the bottom of the ninth. Mazzilli drilled an offering from Cody Eppley into the left field corner. As Lombardozzi was sprinting around the bases, Shank had difficulty coming up with the ball. Ultimately, following a bobble and a desperation throw, the ball went out of play. Lombardozzi and Mazzilli both wheeled around and crossed the plate on what was ruled a double and two errors by Shank.
The whole scenario spoiled what appeared to be a huge moment for Lancaster starter Jared Lakind. He retired the first 20 Ducks batters before, yes, Mazzilli broke up everything with a home run to left center. Lakind worked through the eighth inning on a three-hitter, walking none and striking out seven.
Lancaster grabbed a 1-0 lead off Sean Nolin in the top of the fifth. K.C. Hobson led off with a bloop single into right center. One out later, Parker Morin ripped a double that rolled to the wall in right center, scoring Hobson.
The second Barnstormers run was again due to a catcher. Josh Bell opened the ninth with a walk and left for pinch runner Devon Torrence. With two outs, Torrence stole second. He scored when Anderson De La Rosa, who took over for an injured Morin in the seventh, lined a single into right center.
Tuesday evening will feature the second game of the four-game series. Lancaster will send right-hander Jake McCasland (1-4) to the mound against right-hander Alec Asher (1-0) for the Ducks. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:15.
NOTES: If the final score stands, the Barnstormers will still not have won consecutive games since May 3-4…De La Rosa is 11-for-20 in his last six games…Lakind threw his first career quality start and the club’s 11th…Michael Martinez and K.C. Hobson each has a five-game streak.
DUCK WEATHER, DUCK WIN
Long Island Topples Lancaster, 4-2, on Rainy Night
The Long Island Ducks used a two-run homer by Kirk Nieuwenhuis and solid pitching to defeat the Lancaster Barnstormers, 4-2, Tuesday evening at Bethpage Ballpark.
It was the fifth straight win for Long Island against the Barnstormers this season, all by three runs or fewer.
Nieuwenhuis’ opposite field blast, his fifth homer of the season, followed a two-out walked issued to L.J. Mazzilli by Jake McCasland (1-5) in the first inning.
That home run erased an early 1-0 lead for Lancaster. Michael Martinez led off the game with a single to center and advanced to third on a double dropped down the left field line by Dan Gamache. Caleb Gindl got the run home with a sacrifice fly.
The Barnstormers were able to tie the game against Alec Asher (2-0) in the top of the fifth. With two outs, Darian Sandford lined a single to right center. Martinez came up and lifted a pop fly into the waning twilight. Mazzilli, the second baseman, never saw it, and shortstop Vladimir Frias’ last ditch effort to save the play came up short. The speedy Sandford came all the way around to score on the single, knotting the game at 2-2.
Again, the Ducks came back to score. With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Frias grounded a single up the middle. He took third on a line drive base hit to right center by Matt den Dekker and came home on Steve Lombardozzi’s force play ground ball.
Hector Sanchez chased McCasland with a ground rule double to lead off the Ducks’ sixth. David Washington followed with a single off Matt Marksberry, and the run scored when Ramon Cabrera grounded into a double play.
The Barnstormers, who got the leadoff runner on base six times in the game, had a chance in the eighth, playing in a steady shower. Dan Gamache doubled to left. Joe Terdoslavich and Josh Bell walked around a pair of outs, but, after falling behind Anderson De La Rosa, 3-0, Vin Mazzaro came back with a strikeout to end the threat.
Josh Lueke pitched the ninth for his first save.
Lancaster and Long Island tangle again on Wednesday night. Kyle Davies (2-1) will take the hill for Lancaster against lefty Darin Downs (0-1). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 6:15.
NOTES: Lancaster has allowed runs in the bottom of the inning six of the last seven times it has scored…De La Rosa extended his hitting streak to seven; Martinez has hit in six in a row…The Barnstormers have gone the first five games of the road trip without a home run while allowing five.
Long Island Ducks (21-11) 4, Lancaster Barnstormers (11-19) 2

BARNSTORMERS, DUCKS POSTPONED
Wednesday evening’s scheduled game between the Lancaster Barnstormers and Long Island Ducks was postponed due to the forecast of heavy rain and potential violent weather in Suffolk County, New York.
The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Thursday, beginning at 6:05. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 5:45.
This is the Barnstormers’ third rainout of the season. All have been on the road.
HOMERS NOT ENOUGH
Lancaster Tripped Up by Southern Maryland
Home runs by Joe Terdoslavich and K.C. Hobson were not enough on Friday evening as the Lancaster Barnstormers dropped a 3-2 decision to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
Terdoslavich connected off right-hander Michael Kelly (1-2) for a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth. Buddy Baumann (2-3) kept the 1-0 lead through five, but the top of the sixth proved more problematic for the Lancaster southpaw.
Tony Thomas, the man who sealed the fate of the 2018 Barnstormers with a walkoff grand slam for Sugar Land, led off the Blue Crabs sixth with a double to left and advanced to third on a Kent Blackstone bunt. Rubi Silva hit a sinking liner toward left center that skipped away from a diving Darian Sandford for another double driving home the tying run.
In the seventh with the score tied at 1-1, Cory Vaughn reached on a check swing infield single on a ball that just rolled past the mound. Charlie Valerio bunted the runner to second, and a lined single into right by Jose Julio-Ruiz chased Vaughn to third. Baumann walked Edwin Garcia to load the bases before leaving for Alejandro Chacin.
Thomas drew a walk on a 3-2 pitch to force home the lead run. Blackstone smashed a ball off Chacin’s ankle area which deflected toward third baseman Josh Bell, who converted it into an out at first with Julio-Ruiz scoring on the play.
Matt Marksberry came in for the injured Chacin and struck out Silva to end the inning.
Hobson homered to right center off Adam Choplick to open the lower half of the seventh, bringing Lancaster back to within a run. The Barnstormers, who managed only three hits on the night, could apply no more pressure to Southern Maryland, with only one more runner reaching base on the night.
Mat Latos retired the side in order in the ninth for his fourth save.
John Anderson (2-1) takes the hill for the Barnstormers on Saturday against Southern Maryland right-hander John Hayes (0-3). Fireworks will follow the game. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 6:45.
NOTES: Lancaster tied its season high with three stolen bases, two by Sandford…Lancaster has hit 19 of its 22 homers for the season at home…The Barnstormers have dropped 12 of their last 14 home games…Baumann threw his fourth quality start, tying Kyle Davies for the team high…Greg Golson, a member of the 2014 Atlantic League champion Barnstormers, went 0-for-3 in his 2019 debut.
