EASY COME, EASY GO

Hackenberg Contract Purchased by Toronto

Before ever entering a game on behalf of the Lancaster Stormers, catcher Adam Hackenberg has had his contract purchased by the Toronto Blue Jays and has been assigned to Class AAA Buffalo.

Hackenberg, 26, signed with the Stormers this past Saturday and was expected to be in the lineup for the team’s opener at York on Tuesday, April 21.  Instead, the veteran of five seasons in the Chicago White Sox organization, will once again by one step from his first callup to the Major Leagues.

The brother of former Penn State quarterback Christian, the younger Hackenberg split the last three seasons between Class AAA Charlotte and Class AA Birmingham in the White Sox system.

“Adam was going to be our guy,” said Stormers manager Ross Peeples.  “However, from reports we got, we knew he was going to have a chance to be picked up quickly.  From the little time we had him I really appreciated the way he goes about his business and wish him nothing but the best as he chases his dream.”

The Stormers host the York Revolution at Penn Medicine Park in their second spring training game on Thursday afternoon and will face the Black Sox squad on Friday and Saturday in the final tuneups before Tuesday’s season opener.  Lancaster opens its home schedule against Long Island with a 6:45 game on Friday, April 24.
