Post-Game Concert Series Highlights Summer at the Ballpark

The Lancaster Barnstormers want people to make a night of it at Clipper Magazine Stadium in 2017.

A series of eight post-game concerts and 14 fireworks shows will highlight the 2017 schedule of events for the Lancaster Barnstormers at Clipper Magazine Stadium, it was announced today.

The eight concerts will include a wide variety of music genres.  There will be a pair of country performances with Low, Low Chariot (July 21) and Mountain Road (September 8).

Different eras of pop and rock music will be represented.  Following the April 29 game against Sugar Land, there will be a performance by Retro Remix presented by Prima.  A 90’s tribute band, As If, will perform on June 30.  Autumn Oldies Rock Band will be on hand both before and after the July 8 contest.  Pop band, Jimmy the Whale, will be featured on August 11.  Barnstormers and local music fans can state their case, “Put me in coach, I’m ready to play…” with a Creedence Clearwater/John Fogarty tribute band performance on September 1.

Those with slightly different tastes in music can enjoy a post-game jam with funk/jazz group, Fake Flowers, Real Dirt, on Friday, July 7.

Fireworks extravaganzas will be held at Clipper Magazine Stadium after the other Friday and Saturday night home games during the 2017 season, including an Independence Day show on July 1 presented by PA Lottery. Before fireworks shows throughout the season the Barnstormers will share incredible stories of Lancaster County residents who have received treatment from Lancaster General Health, Penn Medicine and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

To make room for all of these special post-game events this season, the Barnstormers have moved the start times of all Monday thru Saturday evening games up to 6:30.

Four major theme weekends will play a huge role on the 2017 calendar of events at the stadium.  On May 19-21, the Barnstormers and the Building Industry Association of Lancaster will host the Construction Olympics, highlighted by a Saturday nailing competition between students from the Lancaster County Career and Technology Center (LCCTC) and businesses in the building industry.  Contributions from that night will support local trade students and fund community projects.  Saturday night will also feature a community bike rodeo presented by AAA Central Penn in an effort to increase bike safety in the Lancaster community. Additionally, that weekend will hold two of the year’s most special events, the annual Salute to Veterans on Friday and an overnight “Cruisin for Construction” Relay for Life event to fight cancer that will take place Saturday night into Sunday.

One of the highlights of 2016 was the Farm Show, held in conjunction with last season’s Atlantic League All-Star Game.  That show has been expanded into a three-day weekend at Clipper Magazine Stadium this year, to be held from July 21-23.  That weekend will feature the concert by Low, Low Chariot on Friday and, a themed jersey auction presented by PSECU on Saturday and the annual appearance by the Cowboy Monkey Rodeo on Sunday afternoon.  The weekend will highlight the farming industry with proceeds benefitting the Lancaster County Agriculture Council. Fans will be able to see live farm animals, farm equipment and educational materials over the course of the weekend.  Shuttle wagon rides will be offered, thanks to Oregon Dairy.

The Barnstormers have dedicated an entire late summer weekend to kids.  Billed as KidsFest, the weekend of August 4-6 will feature a post-game candy shoot, courtesy or Oregon Dairy, on Friday night.  Saturday will be themed after Star Wars, complete with characters on hand and a Cylo Knight bobblehead giveaway.

To conclude the promotional schedule, the Barnstormers, with the help of Servpro Lancaster East and Select Security, will host a “Never Forget” tribute to the first responders who lost their lives during the horrible events of September 11, 2001.  Rousing patriotic tributes to the fallen and the annual Firefighter Stair Climb highlight the three-day ceremony.  This will be held the weekend of September 8-10, the final regular season home weekend for the Barnstormers during their 13^th season of play on Prince Street.

Outside of those already listed, a number of special guests will also be on hand for the spring and summer of 2017 at Clipper Magazine Stadium.  Tribute band Re-live the Beatles and Ringo impersonator, Ringer Starr, will be at the ballpark to help “ringo in the new year” during the stadium opener, a night that will also feature David Darwin, the “One Man Sideshow” from America’s Got Talent.  Juggler/magician Darwin will perform outside the stadium gates and will also amaze the crowd with a five-minute show prior to the game.  Wrestling legend Jimmy Hart will join the Barnstormers on July 1, and the world famous Budweiser Clydesdales will be at the stadium on September 10.  Performances by the XPOGO Stunt Team (June 2) and The Axe Women (August 11) are also to be enjoyed.

Plus, people get to leave the ballpark with “stuff.”  From tie-dyed t-shirts on Opening Night (April 28) to mugs, bobbleheads, camo floppy hats and BBQ aprons, the 2017 season has plenty of items for a summer of fun.  Then, to conclude the season and get ready for the following winter, the Barnstormers will be passing out Barnstormers gloves during the final regular season weekend.

While most of the major events will be held on the 11 home weekends for the Barnstormers in 2017, Sunday thru Wednesday are dedicated to the palate.  Sundays will be “Dollar Dog Days” throughout the campaign.  Once again on Mondays, the Barnstormers will be hosting an all-you-can-eat Hess’ BBQ Pig Roast in the picnic pavilion and all-you-can-eat pizza and pinball upstairs in the suites, presented by Pat’s Pizza.  Tuesday in the picnic pavilion, Hess’ BBQ will be hosting an all-you-can-eat chicken and ribs bash.  Fans have another option, too, to fill their tummies with hot dogs, nachos, fries, popcorn and soda on those Tuesday nights for just $10.  The popular Wings Wednesday is also back, offering fans the opportunity to enjoy all-you-can-eat wings and beer, presented by Fat Pigs.

Other ongoing summer promotions include AAA Tuesdays where we invite fans who are AAA club members to take advantage of a buy-one-get-one-free ticket promotion on Tuesdays.  If the Barnstormers win on Wednesday evening, fans can visit participating Weis Markets locations on Thursday for a BOGO coupon for a future home game.  In addition, fans 18 and older will have the opportunity to win free Mega Millions tickets on Wednesdays, thanks to the PA Lottery.

Sundays will also once again be family fun days with pre-game autographs and catch on the field and a post-game dash around the bases for the kids, presented by Domino’s Pizza.  It’s also Kids Helping Kids Days presented by Penn State Children’s Hospital and Faith on the Field Sundays presented by Lancaster Bible College.  A new addition for 2017 is a kids’ story time at 12:45, presented by the Lancaster Public Library.

There are seventy home dates on the 2017 calendar.  The Barnstormers are giving fans more than 70 reasons to come out and make a night of it at the ballpark!
