Left-hander Chandler Brierley has been signed to a minor league contract by the Kansas City Royals, it has been announced.
The southpaw from New Jersey played a key role in the Lancaster Barnstormers’ march to the 2023 Atlantic League championship after his acquisition from the Joliet Slammers of the Frontier League. He made four regular season appearances, covering 2 2/3 innings, as a Barnstormer, allowing one hit while walking
Brierley, 25, entered one post-season game, walking one and striking out two in a hitless sixth inning of Game Three in the Championship Series.
Over three seasons with Joliet, Brierley had compiled a 3-5 record and a 4.61 ERA out of the Slammers’ bullpen. He struck out 115 batters in 116 innings of work.
“Brierley is a big (6’8”) left-handed kid with a good arm,” said Lancaster manager Ross Peeples. “He comes downhill, and that makes it very tough to square him up.”
The Barnstormers had returned him to Joliet following the completion of the post-season.
