Bluefish Rap Out 22 Hits in Lopsided Win

It was just one of those nights.

Thirty of 51 Bridgeport batters reached base, and seven players had multiple hits as the Bluefish racked up a 17-5 victory over the Lancaster Barnstormers in the opener of a three-game series at Harbor Yard.

In fact, the final five runs and five hits came off Lancaster center fielder Beau Amaral, so the Barnstormers could save pitching for a day-night doubleheader scheduled for Wednesday.

The Bluefish innocently grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single through the left side by Sean Burroughs, who finished the night with four hits and four driven home.

Lancaster was able to tie the game in the top of the third on a double by Tyler Clark and a single by Amaral, but the inning ended suddenly when Trayvon Robinson lined into a double play on a screamer to Burroughs at the first base bag.

Then, the floodgates opened.  Welington Dotel opened the home third with a single off the glove of second baseman Garrett Weber.  Tony Abreu got to Joe Gardner (0-1) for a double to left center, and Burroughs singled up the middle for a 3-1 lead.

Before the inning ended, the Bluefish had accumulated seven hits and five runs in the inning.

The Barnstormers were able to chop the lead back to 6-3 with single runs over the next two innings, but the Bluefish loaded the bases off Gardner in the fifth on two walks and a single.  It was the next play, though, that ultimately did in the Barnstormers.

Luis Hernandez hit a sharp ground ball off reliever John Anderson headed toward the Weber that took a sideways carom off the dirt of the mound, kicking into right field to drive in two more runs.  By the time the fifth was over, it was 10-3.

Along with Burroughs, Jonathan Galvez drove in four runs on two late inning extra base hits.  Hernandez, Dotel and Abreu had three hits apiece on the night.

For the Barnstormers, Amaral, Steve Clevenger and Lastings Milledge had two hits apiece.

Ross Seaton (1-0) picked up the win, despite allowing seven hits and five runs in six innings.

The Barnstormers and Bluefish play a day-night doubleheader on Wednesday.  The first game, a seven-inning contest, will be played at 1:12 with the nightcap, a full nine-innings, at 7:12.  Fans may tune into the first game at 12:55 PM.

NOTES:  Amaral and Nate Coronado extended hitting streaks to eight games…Sean Halton lost a 13-game streak…John Kuchno (1-0) will start the first game against lefty Manny Parra (1-0)…Lastings Milledge picked up his 12^th and 13^th steals of the season
