Lancaster Scores Big, Wins, 12-4
The Lancaster Barnstormers had been waiting for that kind of night.
Lancaster slugged a pair of homer, a triple and two doubles en route to a 12-4 victory over the York Revolution in the middle game of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
It was the highest offensive output for the club in 2023.
Half of the runs came in the second inning where the Barnstormers received some assistance from the York defense.
Trailing, 2-0, the Barnstormers got a leadoff double off the wall in right by Trayvon Robinson. Tom Sutera (1-2) retired Chris Proctor on a fly out to left and induced a comebacker from Jack Conley. Sutera opted to try to get Robinson at third but threw the ball wildly allowing Robinson to score. Jake Hoover followed with a single to the hole at short. Sutera appeared to be out of the inning when Trace Loehr spanked a grounder to the left of shortstop Trent Giambrone, but the ball kicked up and ended in center for an RBI single. One out later, Andretty Cordero pounded a two-run double to right center for a 4-2 lead. Kelly Dugan followed with a two-run homer to right and a 6-2 edge.
After Ryan January narrowed the gap to 7-4 with a solo homer in the top of the seventh, Lancaster again benefitted from a pitcher’s wild throw. Yeison Cosa, in his first Atlantic League game, tripled to the gap in left center. Robinson followed with a walk, but Tasker Strobel struck out Proctor and got Conley to bounce back to the hill. Trying to start a double play, Strobel made a high throw to the second base bag, failing to get an out and allowing runners to get to second and third. Hoover brought them both home with a double inside the third base bag.
Robinson added a two-run homer in the eighth.
Brent Teller (1-1) worked six innings, giving up four hits and three runs in the victory. The right-hander yielded back-to-back doubles by Giambrone and Jacob Rhinesmith to start the game and yielded a leadoff homer to Nellie Rodriguez in the second. He did not allow a hit after Rhinesmith’s one-out single to right in the third.
The Barnstormers will seek their first sweep of the season on Sunday afternoon at 1:00. Brandyn Sittinger (1-3) will take the mound for the ‘Stormers against lefty Nick Raquet (2-1). Fans may tune into FloBaseball’s coverage, beginning at 12:55.
