BOYD CONTRACT PURCHASED BY ANGELS

Lancaster outfielder Bijon (BJ) Boyd has had his contract purchased by the Los Angeles Angels, it was announced today by manager Ross Peeples.

Boyd’s contract is the second purchased from the Barnstormers within recent days.  RHP Brent Teller left for the Arizona Diamondbacks organization a week earlier.

Boyd, who had been with Lancaster during spring training in 2021, went 3-for-4 in his first regular season Atlantic League game on May 18.  He hit safely in 13 of the 14 games he played in a Barnstormers jersey, leaving with a .345 average.  Boyd slugged three homers and drove in 11.

The California native played in the Oakland organization for seven seasons (2012-18), hitting .323 in the Class AA Texas League in 2017.  His contract was purchased by the Minnesota Twins in 2021, and he split the year between Class AA Wichita and Class AAA St. Paul.  He hit .291 with 16 homers and 73 RBI for the season.

“BJ has a great story behind him and is very exciting to watch play this game,” said Peeples.  “He always has a smile on his face while he’s playing.  He definitely deserves this opportunity.  I hate to see him go, but, at the same time, I’m very happy for him.”

Taking Boyd’s spot on the roster is fan favorite Trayvon Robinson, who returns for his fifth season in Lancaster.  Robinson has batted .278 in 349 games for the Barnstormers since being traded from Somerset to Lancaster in the middle of the 2016 season.
