Barnstormers Tripped Up in Series Finale

An opportunistic York offense took advantage of Lancaster’s only error on Sunday afternoon, scoring two unearned runs in the seventh, to defeat the ‘Stormers, 3-2, in the finale of the opening weekend series.

York took three out of four in the set despite being outscored, 23-20, and outhit in every game.

Jared Lakind (0-1) got four ground balls out of the Revolution in the seventh inning, but Lancaster’s defense provided him with only two outs.  Michael Burgess reached on a one-out bobble by third baseman Carlos Garcia.  Jose Tabata slapped a crisp grounder to third, but Garcia slipped and only got the force out at second.  After Tabata stole second, Rubi Silva punched a ball toward the middle.  Vladimir Frias had it for a moment, then lost the grip as Silva reached on the infield single.

Manager Ross Peeples went to the bullpen for right-hander Jesus Sanchez to face the right-handed batting Ryan Dent.  However, he walked Dent to load the bases, and Cruz followed with a single to center that scored both Tabata and Silva.

The Barnstormers took a 1-0 lead in the third on a two-out RBI double by Blake Gailen that got Garcia home from third.  Anderson De La Rosa stretched the lead to 2-0 in the fourth with a home run that carried onto the deck down the right field line.

York climbed to within a run in the bottom of the fourth as Zach Wilson’s sac fly to right drove home Jared Mitchell.

Lancaster had an opportunity in the ninth.  Garcia kept the game alive with a two-out single into right center and stole second.  Darian Sandford beat out  a grounder behind second base, sending Garcia to third.  In turn, Sandford stole second.  However, Junior Rincon picked up his third strike out of the inning, getting Tyler Bortnick to swing at a breaking ball to end the game for his first save.

Robert Carson (1-0) notched the win for York with a scoreless seventh.

Lancaster is idle on Monday then will travel to Southern Maryland on Tuesday to take on the Blue Crabs in the opener of a three-game series.  Former Oriole Steve Johnson will take the mound for the Barnstormers in the Tuesday game.  Fans may tune into the webcast beginning at 6:15.
