Coronado, Weber Lead Attack
Nate Coronado drove in three runs while Garrett Weber had a pair of extra base hits as the Lancaster Barnstormers bounced back from a tough week for a 10-6 victory over the Somerset Patriots Saturday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
With the win, the Barnstormers remained one game ahead of the York Revolution in the Freedom Division race.
After falling behind, 2-0, early, Lancaster responded with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Lucas Irvine (7-3) walked Josh Bell and Coronado to open the inning, and third baseman Scott Kelly could not make a pick up an Anderson De La Rosa bunt for an error, loading the bases. A wild pitch enabled Bell to score, and Coronado came home on a grounder by Beau Amaral. Cole Garner lashed a single into right for a 3-2 edge.
In the following inning, Steve Clevenger blooped a single down the left field line and went to third on a double by Garrett Weber off the right field wall. Bell’s grounder to second knocked in one run, and Coronado followed with a two-run homer onto the right field tents to extend the lead to 6-2.
Rommie Lewis (7-9) survived bases loaded situations in both the fourth and fifth innings, allowing only one run on a walk in the fifth, to earn the win.
Lancaster kept pulling away. Weber opened the sixth with a triple into left center and scored on a sac fly by Coronado. Sean Halton slammed a two-run homer to left in the seventh and Garner singled home another insurance run in the bottom of the eighth as the Barnstormers rapped out 12 hits in the game.
Somerset picked up three runs on four singles and a walk in the top of the ninth. Aharon Eggleston singled home one run, and Alfredo Rodriguez drove in two more. With one out, Justin Trapp punched a liner down the right field stripe. Garner sprinted over, made the catch and doubled Rodriguez off first to end the game.
The Barnstormers wrap up the series on Sunday afternoon with Joe Gardner (0-1) taking the hill against lefty Mike Antonini (0-0). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 1:45.
