Freedom Takes All-Star Game, 10-3
Sean Halton homered for the Freedom Division’s first run in the second inning to help lead the Freedom to a 10-3 victory over the Liberty Division in the 20th Atlantic League All-Star Game played at TD Bank Park in Bridgewater, NJ Wednesday evening.
Halton connected off Bridgeport’s Rainy Lara to cut an early Liberty lead to 2-1. Former Lancaster infielder Kevin Ahrens followed with another long ball to tie the game at 2-2.
The Freedom side took command of the game on a three-run homer by Southern Maryland’s Zach Wilson off losing pitcher John Brownell of the Long Island Ducks in the top of the third.
Among other Barnstormers in the game, Anderson De La Rosa led the way with a pair of singles in his two at bats. Garrett Weber went 1-for-5, and Vladimir Frias did not come up with a base hit in his two at bats.
Weber and Frias turned a 4-6-3 double play in the bottom of the ninth inning. De La Rosa also cut down Somerset’s Justin Pacchioli on a steal attempt in the seventh inning.
On the pitching side, Lancaster’s Scott Shuman was one of four pitchers out of the 18 used in the game to fire a perfect inning. He got the side in order in the bottom of the sixth inning, striking out one.
Former Lancaster starting pitcher Brian Grening, now of Southern Maryland, picked up the win. He pitched a flawless second inning.
