Barnstormers Grab Fifth Straight

Nate Reed combined with four relievers on a four-hitter Saturday evening as the Lancaster Barnstormers won their fifth straight, a 7-1 decision over the York Revolution in front of 6,028 at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Reed (2-0) checked York on three hits over the first five innings.  The left-hander from the Reading area walked one and struck out six in defeated the Revolution for the second consecutive Saturday evening.

He was followed into the game by Matt Marksberry, Kevin Munson, Scott Shuman and Matt Reynolds.  Michael Burgess picked up the only hit off the relief staff, a one-out single in the sixth.  That hit chased Zach Wilson, who had reached on an error, to third before the bullpen retired the final 11 York batters of the night.

The only Revs run came in the fourth inning when Travis Witherspoon banged out a leadoff double and scored on a single by Luis Cruz.

Lancaster (6-3) picked up its first two runs in the second.  Ryan Casteel led off the inning with a home run.  Two outs later, Vladimir Frias reached on a single, stole second and scored on a single by Rico Noel.

Noel’s triple and a sacrifice fly by Tyler Bortnick extended Lancaster’s lead to 3-1 in the fifth.  Blake Gailen put the game away in the bottom of the seventh with a three-run homer after walks to Noel and Darian Sandford.  Keenyn Walker doubled home the final run in the seventh.

The Barnstormers will seek their second consecutive series sweep on Sunday afternoon at 1:00.  Brooks Hall (0-0) will make the start for Lancaster against York right-hander Jay Gause (0-0).
