BARNSTORMERS END HOME SEASON ON HIGH NOTE

Robinson, Wilson Carry Lancaster to 4-3 Win

The Barnstormers saved one of their most exciting games for last.

Dean Wilson and Trayvon Robinson drove in two runs apiece as Lancaster ended its home schedule with a 4-3 victory over the York Revolution on Wednesday evening.

With the win, Lancaster’s fifth in its last six games, the Barnstormers wrapped up the home portion of their 2016 slate with a 32-38 mark.

Andres Perez singled home Jared Mitchell in the top of the first to give York a quick lead, but the Barnstormers erased it on their first two batters of the game. Caleb Gindl lifted a fly ball to medium center, but Travis Witherspoon was unable to locate it against the twilight sky, and the ball fell in for a double. The red hot Robinson followed with a long triple off the fence in right center field to tie the game.

Lancaster was unable to score Robinson, who was cut down trying to cross the plate on a bouncer back to the mound by K.C. Hobson, and York reestablished the lead in the third. Isaias Tejeda sliced a double into the right field corner off Joey Maher (2-4). Maher uncorked a wild pitch to send Tejeda to third, and Perez picked up his second RBI of the night on a sacrifice fly to center.

Ty’Relle Harris (5-7) survived a pair of walks in the third and three more in the fourth, but his wildness finally caught up to him in the fifth. The York right-hander retired the first two batters easily before hitting Sean Halton with a pitch. He walked Mike Jacobs to put a second runner on base, then hit Kevin Ahrens to load the sacks. Wilson followed with a double into the right center alley to score two.

A single by Gindl and double to deep left by Robinson tacked on an insurance run in the sixth.

Maher yielded six hits and two runs over six innings while walking four and striking out two. He was replaced by Kelvin De La Cruz in the seventh. De La Cruz, making his first appearance since August 18, yielded only an infield single. Pete Andrelczyk worked a perfect eighth in his fifth outing in six days.

Cory Burns, earlier named the Player of the Year by the Barnstormers fans, was reached for a rare run in the ninth. With one out, he walked Witherspoon on a full count pitch. Mitchell flied out to center, but Tejeda reached the Lancaster closer for an RBI double into the left field corner.

Burns got Perez to roll a grounder into the shortstop hole. The youthful Wilson made the backhanded stop and a perfect, strong throw across the diamond to nab Perez for the final out with Burns gaining his 30th save.

The Barnstormers open their final series of the season Thursday evening at Bridgeport. Connor Root (0-3) will make the start for Lancaster against right-hander Ross Seaton. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:55.

NOTES: Hobson lost his hitting streak at 16 games, going 0-for-4…Robinson is 10-for-17 with a double, a triple, two homers, seven RBI and six steals in the last five games…Burns allowed only his second walk and his second earned run at home but kept his home saves mark intact at 17-for-17…He has saved 19 in a row overall…The quality start was Maher’s third.
