Hartman Frustrates Lancaster
Ryan Hartman dealt seven shutout innings, and the Staten Island FerryHawks belted three solo home runs as the host club defeated the visiting Lancaster Barnstormers, 4-0, Saturday evening at SIUH Community Park.
The shutout, the first against the Barnstormers since July 10, dropped the Barnstormers back to third place in the North Division.
Hartman (3-5) yielded six hits, all singles, while walking one and striking out six. The lefty surrendered a pair of two-out singles to Andretty Cordero and Ariel Sandoval in the first. Wilson Garcia cranked a line drive barely foul into the left field corner before fouling out to right.
It was the closest the Barnstormers would come to scoring on the night. Trace Loehr and Yeison Coca produced singles in the third to no avail, and, during the next four innings, Hartman faced only one batter over the minimum.
Reliever Vinny Aiello surrendered singles to Melvin Mercedes and Cordero in the eighth, but Sandoval grounded into a force at third on the next pitch for the final out.
Lancaster managed 10 baserunners for the evening, grounding into two double plays and stranding eight.
Meanwhile, only six FerryHawks reached base. Angel Aguilar took Jeff Bain (2-2) over the boards in left field in the first inning. Yoshi Tsutsugo departed to right center in the fourth inning, and Jack Elliott stroked the third Staten Island homer with the bases empty in the fifth inning. A double to right center by Luis Castro and a single into left by Chris Brito capped the scoring in the sixth inning.
Dominic DiSabatino (3-7) will make the start for the Barnstormers on Sunday at 4:00 against right-hander Ivan Pineyro (5-3). Fans may tune into FloBaseball, starting at 3:55.
