York Completes Sweep, 5-3

The Lancaster Barnstormers kept giving themselves chances to pull off a huge late inning rally Thursday evening at WellSpan Park, but the big hit never came.

Lancaster left the tying runs on base in each of the final two innings, coming up short in a 5-3 loss to the Revs.  It was the fourth straight loss for the Barnstormers to wrap up their current three-stop, seven-day road trip.

Trailing, 5-1, the Barnstormers got consecutive singles from Trayvon Robinson and pinch hitter Marshall Rich to start the eighth.  A wild pitch moved the runners to second and third, and Joseph Carpenter plated Robinson with a grounder to third.  Jack Conley walked, and a second Andrew Gross wild pitch advanced the runners into scoring position.  Jake Hoover singled off the glove of third baseman Alejandro Rivero, but the inning went no further.

Andretty Cordero and Robinson singled in the ninth, but Victor Capellan recorded the final two outs for his eighth save.

‘Stormer starter Jared Lakind left after facing only four batters and turned the baseball over to Brian Marconi (0-1).  The Revs struck for two runs off the lefty reliever in the second.  It started with the second batter Marconi faced as Nellie Rodriguez tripled to the wall in right center.  Jacob Rhinesmith was clipped by a pitch, and both scored on the first of three doubles by Jhon Nunez, this one to right center.

The other three runs came in the fourth.  Richard Urena opened the inning with a homer to right center.  Troy Stokes, Jr. walked, Rhinesmith was hit by a pitch for a second time, and, again, Nunez doubled to knock home one.  Alexis Pantoja pushed across York’s fifth run with a single to right.

Carlos Espinal (3-1) fired five scoreless innings, yielding five hits and a run to earn the win.

Lancaster will send Dominic DiSabatino (3-1) to the mound on Friday night against Charleston right-hander Troy Bacon (1-2) as the Barnstormers open a 10-game homestand.  Fans may tune into FloBaseball at 6:30.

NOTES:  The Barnstormers were 1-for-15 in scoring position…Jesus Liranzo became the first Lancaster pitcher to pick up a base hit with a single in the sixth…The injury to Lakind is not arm related…Robinson extended his hitting streak to nine but failed to double for the first time in six games…Yeison Coca had a bunt single to stretch hit streak to six.
