Right-Hander Heads Northwest
Right-hander Adam Smith’s contract has been purchased by the Seattle Mariners, it has been announced.
The Pennsylvania native has been assigned to the Class A+ Everett (WA) AquaSox.
It is the second contract purchased from the Lancaster Stormers in 2026. Catcher Adam Hackenberg left to join the Toronto Blue Jays organization during spring training and is currently with the Class AAA Buffalo Bisons.
Smith leaves the Stormers with a 1-1 record after two starts. He lost to the York Revolution,
“22-7, in his Atlantic League debut. That was followed by the first quality start by a Stormer this season as Smith pitched the Stormers to an 18-1 this past Tuesday. That effort included an immaculate inning in the second, the first by a Stormers hurler since June, 2023.
The right-hander was 7-3 with Class A+ Greenville in the Boston organization last year, recording a 3.44 ERA. Prior to his two-year stay with the Red Sox, the former UNC-Wilmington star pitched in the San Diego system for three seasons.
“I’m very excited for Adam,” said Lancaster manager Ross Peeples. “He came here with a focus to get out, and he accomplished that goal.”
Earlier on Thursday, the Stormers signed rookie left-hander Zach Mizrahi to a contract. The southpaw most recently pitched for Culpeper (VA) in the Shenandoah Valley League. The native of Jacksonville, Florida is looking to reinvent himself as a sidearm specialist and caught Peeples’ eye.
“He will be a specialist for us,” said Peeples. He just recently dropped down (to sidearm), and we saw some really good things on the video he sent to us.”
