BARNSTORMERS RECEIVE CHACIN IN TRADE

One-Time Cincy Right-hander Dealt from Sugar Land

The Lancaster Barnstormers have received right-hander Alejandro Chacin from the Sugar Land Skeeters as a player-to-be-named later in the recent trade for relievers Kevin Munson and Stephen Johnson, it was announced today by manager Ross Peeples.

Chacin, 25, appeared in 10 games for the Skeeters late last season, posting a 1.64 ERA over his 11 innings of work.  The native of Venezuela yielded 13 hits but only two walks while striking out seven.

He signed with the Cincinnati Reds in 2010 and finally reached the Major Leagues for six appearances in 2017, making his debut on August 23 against the Chicago Cubs.

Otherwise, in 2017, Chacin posted a 2.60 ERA in 44 games for Class AAA Louisville.  Before parting ways with the Reds late last season, he was 1-2 with a 5.50 ERA for Class AA Pensacola but struck out 50 batters in 36 innings of work.

In his nine minor league seasons, working exclusively in relief, Chacin has a 2.72 ERA, has saved 96 games and has yielded only 345 hits in 434 innings of work.

“Chacin has put up very good numbers through his minor league career,” said Peeples.  “He will be used in several ways out of our bullpen.  We’re happy to have him in the Barn.”
